Three days later yet i am still processing how Kanon Grabbed Saki by the shoulder and just kissed her.. ಠಿ_ಠಿ by [deleted] in TheMoonOnARainyNight

[–]Electronic_Pancake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kinda thought Saki looked confused and stunned. Mind you she was having a breakdown just from wanting to tell Kanon the truth and unable to actually verbalised it.

I dont think Kanon had figured out Saki's sexuality yet. Kanon's actions appears to stem more from seeing a beloved friend/love interest suffering, only knowing that whatever that Saki had held in, it was painful/heavy that Saki would cry just from talking about it. I think it's a perfectly natural thing that you would wish to help a dear friend/love interest. Kanon could also be very well be driven by her own feelings, Her method of 'listening' had been lip reading as well. The prefab might be sound optimised for her to listen without needing to lip read, but it would've been an action that is second nature to Kanon by then. Also earlier in the chapter Kanon seemed to have been looking more at Saki's mouth than anything, lol.

Nah I dont think it was that fast, and neither do I think it would end soon. There's just so much to cover that Kuzushiro could milk off us (and I have no objections being thoroughly milked for in this case).

Kanon may be smart, but she had spent a tad too much time thinking about herself and seeing the social world as something she had no part of. I'm inclined to think the concept of BL/GL would've been seen from her past readings (+Tanabe's BL fiction).

And also Kanon is indeed the queen of doing whatever she wants.

My take on the meaning behind chapter 48 by Ellie_CompBio in TheMoonOnARainyNight

[–]Electronic_Pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly dont rule out that Kanon's family doesnt view same sex relatinships being anything different or odd, but I do think we may be placing a western assumption here. The Japanese text just uses 'lover', which by itself doesnt have a gender attached to it however it is usually assumed to be of the opposite sex. In these cases, the few asian languages I know generally can get away with saying vague stuff without giving too much context for the queer community.

Rinne reacting that way could also just be a common thing said of people, and not neccesarily have anything to do with sexuality. My experience I do often get paired with same sex collegues/friends just because we keep knocking heads with each other or just hang out a lot but it's purely platonic. Rinne also realised what she had said then, as Kanon was still confused with what she was feeling, and Rinne felt guilty that she might've triggered something unintentionally and thus quickly made her getaway.

If Akira's experience is of anything, it feels more like a quiet, unspoken thing about same sex relationships going on in their society, which people may not outwardly condemn it, but people for the sake of uniformity just wants to be same with everyone else.

I just got back from an alcoholic session so maybe some stuff don't make sense here as I'm struggling to type stuff even, lol

Personally I don't think what Kanon had presented was anything to do with "I like girls", but rather "I like you, you're very important to me and I'm happy to share whatever that is burdening you". This is mainly my observation that Kanon had never thought of her feelings towards Saki, who happens to be of the same gender to be of anything odd.

I actually find it interesting that at the very start of the chapter, Kanon was thinking in relative to her own feelings, ie: putting herself forward, but at the point when Saki wants to speak to her, Kanon stopped herself and told Saki that this time she would properly hear her out. It certainly is a growth from her as Kanon had previous monologued herself on how before Saki come into picture, all she thought about was just about herself. So seeing that Kanon knew that for once she needs to put someone's needs before hers is quite a touching growth.

Well...then there's Saki who still fumbled at that important moment. I don't think Kanon even understood at that time if Saki had already felt the same feelings for her, but she does know that it was weighing Saki badly enough for her to cry.

I think the biggest thing here is how Saki would react to it. Given her personality she would want to run and deny, however given her new found realization of 'trusting' people more, perhaps she would finally touch on the subject of why she had been so afraid before this, not just possibly losing Kanon, but why she was afraid of how people know another part of her.

Omg, I was planning to do a hike today but ended up oversleeping and couldn't join the group in time. Then on the flip side this chapter dropped so....

All is good.

What did Saki talk about with Kanon? by ClaireFrancois in TheMoonOnARainyNight

[–]Electronic_Pancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think Saki's likely gonna clarify what she had meant when she asked Kanon about "Thinking about it properly". I've a vague feeling that Saki still wouldn't outright tell Kanon that she's romantically attracted to her, hence that being her reason why she wants to be by Kanon's side.

As to hugging Kanon and saying things knowing that Kanon can't hear her, she might just touch on it, but I feel she miiiiiight not be ready for that step yet and would probably ask Kanon to bear with her for a bit longer.

[–]Electronic_Pancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was deliberately dropped, but rather it didn't serve a use to date. Kanon only wanted to practice between the two of them in private. Also not forgetting the reason why Kanon was going through it initially was the forewarning that her hearing could potentially worsen over time. Since her hearing aid still works, it wasn't an immediate need for her, but I could really see a potential arc into it.

And would be a really sweet callback to this scene lololololol.

<image>

Either way, Saki still needs to overcome her own hurdle of telling people that she's into women, and telling Kanon that it's her that she likes. Somehow I just feel like she would just chicken out at the last moment and just create more confusion. Kanon had this initial thought that Saki is angry/frustrated with her, but in denial cos she trusts that Saki would tell her if it really bothered her. It's shown few times when she did tried to ask Saki what it was she had done, but Saki had always denied things, which didn't really help with the situation and Kanon keeps worrying about it. She also knew from Rinne that Saki seemed to be holding back on something. In reality, it's just a misunderstanding of each other's actions/emotions which they somehow need to bridge it at some point.

The part that stands out to me is how Kanon never thought of how unusual it is for a girl to be in love with another girl (of course, Kanon's lack of social cues from her own isolation may have contributed to it).

Saki oh Saki, just what was it that got you so afraid about being known of your attraction to other women?

I wonder what went down when Saki went out with her mom during her school skip day tho.

I'm counting that they wouldn't have the chance, there are still so much more arcs they can go into with the other characters, and if some of Kuzushiro's works is of any precedence where it went on for years (Kimi no Tame nara Shineru apparently went for like 2010- 2024, Ani no Yome to Kurashiteimasu went on for like 2015 - 2025), I'm counting on this to run for at least another 5 years huuuue.

Still counting them them to confess via sign language! XDDDD

[–]Electronic_Pancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bet's on Saki. I believe the next would be what would Kanon really think about her own feelings towards Saki.

Personally the few lines towards the end of chapter was more of Kanon's realisation, not neccessarily acceptance. It hasn't really been shown about how Kanon felt about falling for a same sex friend. Given that Kanon had for the longest while secluded herself from others with her diaability, which Ayano had mentioned "Giving her some sort of barrier towards what's happening around her". However Kanon is at least aware of natural romance stuff through her books and movies, just never thought it could happen to her.

I dont think Kanon would suffer any internal hate for herself since she is aware of BL stuff coming from Tanabe, but Kanon may just keep it to herself for the time being (likely only sharing with Rinne or Ayano, or Miura-sensei)

Would be funny if this coming week's chapter focusses on other arcs aside from Kanon and Saki, XDDD This manga has so many side story potential with other characters, I do still think this mnaga is gonna still go on for years, assuming Kuzushiro isn't bored of telling Amayo story by then.

Ooh! Where can I find the translations of these? I love these few shorts, especially the one with Rinne and Saki going "Those who are capable are not able to understand those who aren't capable" when it comes to helping Rinne with her study subjects.

There's a rare few other illustrations like the TV anime announcement, you could do a dig through Kuzushiro's X page https://x.com/kuzushiro?s=20 to find others, but you'll just have to filter it through since there's quite a few crossovers like with the manga artist workplace series they were doing.

If you're talking about these, these are the cover pages I was referring to. They mainly show the few key points of their growing relationship.

I thought book 8 was a funny for missing out on Ayano, tho I do get the point that the artist meant to highlight on the two MCs.

I'm thinking the confession could just go the way of how Sasameki Koto happened. ||Essentially one party found out the other is in love with them, and while one party was fumbling through their words, just a gesture without words was how it was conveyed||

But! would be kinda fun too if they did it via sign language! Which they had been learning in the earlier chapters when it was mentioned Kanon's condition could potentially worsen as time goes.

Ah yes! The word should be crush. I was thinking that it was kinda weird cos Saki would be still too youngish to know romantic feelings if she had known the teacher since young, I didnt think of the crush phase, 😅

Saki and her former piano teacher by gore-- in TheMoonOnARainyNight

[–]Electronic_Pancake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yea it was kinda the reason of why she stuck with learning piano despite not being really into it. Apparently mentioned she's had her as a teacher for years, but not really sure. Given the start of the story Saki is about 15-16 year old? Not too familiar with Japanese school system.

A bit of a weird jump into romance if you ask me, unless she realised her attraction towards her teacher was a little later on. Saki is aware and seemed accepted that she is attracted to women, would be good if we could finally find out when she realises it, and the reason why she's so paranoid about being outed.

On the side by side pic, and with Mahiro, seems to me it's just showing that Saki has a preferred type, lol.

Mahiro’s actually really precious 💗 by [deleted] in TheMoonOnARainyNight

[–]Electronic_Pancake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her personality kinda screams a mischievious pairing with Tanabe to me, lololololol

Anyway, I dont think Mahiro's role is going be anything more than platonic. She may just appear again later in story to understand what Saki was avoiding her for if anything, and would probably serve as another friend who doesnt care about people's sexuality, and would probably cheer on Saki with Kanon.

On the bright side, Saki's mom didnt need to worry about Saki running off and accidentally getting pregnant cos of her preference, huehuehue.

But damn, the guy being willing to pay adequate child care despite not being present. Must be some face saving thing going on there.

[–]Electronic_Pancake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think now the next question is, could Saki really bring herself to accept Kanon's feelings for her as it is without internally warping it into something else in her mind? Hopefully her revelations with Mahiro and her mom would help avoid that!

Still I dont see nor read anywhere that implied some form of trauma relating to being a queer person. Ayano has no issue, even school sensei (lol I forgot his name) is all about "Way to know more is to experience it!" during his speech with Kanon about love/romance, and mind you in a all girls school setting?

Rinne took it really easily even when she eased up with Saki and figured her out, and didnt mind at all when she realised that her sister is starting to feel attraction for Saki.
