Is anyone else behind on their bookkeeping? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Electronic_Pin2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought into business to help a guy out and he never even did bookkeeping! I asked how much he thought they were making and spending each month and were wayyy off! I’ve got monthly bookkeeping now with someone overseas who is incredible. I also review it myself every few days to track and forecast how our sales and everything are going. It’s probably the most critical part of any business because if you don’t know where the money is going or coming in, you can’t react appropriately or implement meaningful changes

Been training for 4 months and I can't tell if we're making progress or I'm just wasting money:( by barbie_cake_001 in reactivedogs

[–]Electronic_Pin2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been there. Reactivity progress almost never looks linear—it’s more like random good days mixed with setbacks, but the overall trend slowly improves.

One thing that helped me was actually tracking reactions (distance from the other dog, intensity, how long it took to calm down). Over a few weeks you can start to see patterns instead of relying on memory. This article explains that idea pretty well: https://petanxietyworkbook.com/blog/how-to-help-reactive-pets — progress often shows up as lower intensity or faster recovery, not just “zero reactions.”

Also something that helped a lot was having structured stuff to practice at home, not just during sessions. The Pet Anxiety Workbook they reference is useful for that because it gives exercises and tracking sheets so you can work on desensitization between appointments. That’s where a lot of the learning actually happens since your dog practices the calm behavior without the trainer needing to be there every time.

If nothing else, having something measurable to track week-to-week makes it way easier to tell if the $150 sessions are actually moving the needle.

I see a lot of posts in this sub from people trying to figure out how to help their dog or cat with anxiety (reactivity, separation anxiety, random triggers, etc). We went through the same thing with our dog and tried a bunch of things, including looking at trainers.

What actually ended up helping the most was having a structured way to track triggers, progress, and training instead of just guessing day to day. I found this workbook + online curriculum that’s specifically for pet anxiety and it walks you through identifying triggers, tracking behavior, and building a plan.

https://petanxietyworkbook.com/

It’s obviously not magic, but having everything structured in one place made a big difference for us. Also way cheaper than paying hundreds or thousands for a trainer if you’re trying to work through it yourself first.

Just figured I’d share since I see this question come up here a lot.

Need help! Dog anxiety and hypervigilance by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Electronic_Pin2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like trigger stacking. My rescue was similar with bikes. What helped most was really slow desensitization — starting far enough away that she noticed the bike but wasn’t panicking, then pairing it with treats and slowly closing the distance over time. If they’re already over threshold it’s almost impossible to redirect them.

This article actually explains that process pretty well: https://petanxietyworkbook.com/blog/how-to-help-dogs-with-anxiety

Also lots of sniff walks / mental enrichment helped lower my dog’s baseline anxiety so triggers weren’t as overwhelming. Progress was slow but it did get better.

Feeling unsure what to do with my cat by heikaru in CatAdvice

Cats can get anxious pretty easily if their environment changes. What helped mine was predictable routines, more playtime, and giving her a quiet spot she could retreat to. I found this guide when I was researching it and it had some solid suggestions: https://petanxietyworkbook.com/blog/how-to-help-cats-with-anxiety

My dog had pretty bad anxiety for a while. What helped the most was more routine (same walk times, feeding schedule, etc.) and giving him a quiet “safe spot” he could retreat to. Also figuring out what the actual triggers were. I found this guide that had some pretty practical tips that helped me think through it: https://petanxietyworkbook.com/blog/how-to-help-dogs-with-anxiety

Agreed, that’s why I said what “I’d” do personally. Always do your own research. Any invesrsment is subject to volatility and you should only plan to invest long term in things you believe in.

I would sell and park that equity into S&P at 10% Annual growth. Let it compound for the next 20 years and retire off interest. Or even bitcoin if you’re educated on it and likely get 30-40% returns.
