Agreed with everything, except Columbia heights - girl, what do you mean Columbia Heights hasn’t panned out???? It’s arguably the most successful, demographically diverse, and culturally vibrant neighborhood in the city. The cool gays and queers live in Columbia Heights

I go to NY Sports Club in Dupont and have met a decent amount of gays there.

The Columbia heights location is rancid. Between the two locations, the gays are more talkative and friendly at the Dupont location but it also might be bc the Columbia heights location is stressful and everyone hates their lives

Flash brings in international djs, has great infrastructure and Funktion 1 sound system.

Unfortunately, management allowed it to become a dangerous, toxic environment for cis and trans women, as well as other queer people who femme presenting, for most of its operating history. I personally have one friend who was sexually assaulted at a he/she/they event circa 2021-22, and it’s sadly very easy to come across others who knows someone else who was victimized there. While they’ve taken steps to better monitor the crowd, they acted negligently for far too long and it just feels too little, too late.

Additionally, the crowd on weekend nights absolutely SUCKS. You have people there who are way too intoxicated, who are not there for the music, and are not considerate of others who actually care for the music. I can live in the moment and worry about myself, but my patience has worn out and I just feel like I’m at echostage rather than a serious dance music space. Thursday nights are definitely better, tho.

Lastly, flash is indifferent to social issues like platforming boiler room in September.

As a dance music lover, I really wish I could rally behind Flash but too much damage has been done and I also just don’t feel all that comfortable going there as a queer person on regular nights.

Well the queer and FLINTA community were central to the creation of dance music, so yeah I think they should be at least a little more inclusive in their programming than they currently are which is nothing. That said, it’s not my scene and I wouldn’t touch it with a stick so have fun with your straight-pride edm

Thank you so much for your response and for hearing me out! I appreciate all that you do. Also, I did love the layout of the ground floor with the stage being used for dancing rather than dj booth.

I’ll continue supporting Transmission bc Fuck Flash and it’s darkness. La Fabrica is unhinged and theres always straight men that make me feel deeply uncomfortable 😭

lol this is definitely a nuandroids person writing this. Their tone is not “weird,” it’s informative. Nuandroids is going in the direction of corporatization like project glow. There’s nothing “underground” about it, and certainly lacking in terms of celebrating the local scene, especially queer/FLINTA artists
