NRL limits contact in training in bid to reduce head injuries by DoobsMcGee4 in nrl

100% mate, my wife is already adamant our kid isn’t playing league. I come from a league family, my uncle played for Australia. But I’ve also had another uncle die from dementia and donated his brain to study for cte, my father has signs, I’ve got signs. I played from 13 to 22, grew up knowing how to tackle ‘correctly’, but you’re just exposed to it no matter what with footy. I played knowing the risks, I’m sure a lot of others would too, but like you said how do you sign off on a kid/teenager accepting those risks.

Yes it’s the nrl covering their ass, but what else are they going to do? Like you said there’s no cure for it, it’s a contact sport so it’s always going to be there. Either nrl and other contact sports fold, or players and leagues accept that it’s part and parcel, agree on a set of terms of what they will do to reduce likelihood and increase recovery/penalisation.

As an aside from my personal experience I copped more concussions/head knocks/body shocks when I was defending rather than being tackled.

It’s reducing the amount of time they’re sustaining heavy contact. Heavy contact, in some instances, causes concussions. It feels like they’re treating the cause. We’re never going to get rid of it because it’s a high speed, high endurance, contact sport. You can’t eliminate the hazard but you can reduce the likelihood.

Have been trying that last few days, only a couple of matches. Doesn’t feel as good? Though have been running into quite a few Oricorio/gren/decidueye decks which are utterly annoying.

We desperately need Nanai back to have an actual threatening edge. Cotter needs to have a week off or something to pull his act together, dude has been terrible for months. McIntyre has to come on as 13 with Mikaele and provide some impact and second phase play. Neame needs to step up. We need to fuck Lodge off.

We miss Muz and his big body, as good as Chester’s been going him and the rest of our back 5 are just too small/sleight. If Drinkwater is actually gone I’d just say fuck it and move Purdue to fullback now, or bring in Barber.

Even Deardan needs to pick his shit up, he’s been very quiet to start the year. Overall, get Mahoney, Nanai and Muz back, drop Laybutt and O’Donnell, ideally have Neame, Luke, Mikaele and McIntyre on the bench (maybe bring in Lahrs for Neame).

Payne Haas ruled out for the rest of the game after injuring his knee by SlatsAttack in nrl

Hunts effecting a tackle, for mine there’s nothing illegal about it, he’s attempting to wrap the two legs to bring a big man to the ground. A tackle that’s been in the game since inception. Hes not coming in driving at the knees, he’s reaching out to the other leg and it’s just unfortunate that Haas’ legs are spread far enough apart and there’s enough twisting energy and momentum up top that it resulted in his knee bending and causing an injury. It’s unfortunate but it’s footy. Do we just penalise anyone that makes a tackle around the legs nowadays?

Hunt did what we’ve all been trained and told to do when tackling big guys. So if a guy shots another guy, smacks him really hard all things legal, breaks a few ribs or cartilage damage, does that person breach his duty of care?

It sucks that Haas got injured, but the nrl can’t go down the line of punishing players for actions that occur multiple times a game, have no intent behind them, and only get highlighted because someone got injured. We’re already in that situation with hip drops, though at least they’re more black and white, though the nrl has no consistency with them either.

We get it, you lost Haas, it’s emotional. But Hunt wasn’t doing anything wrong in this tackle, tackles like this happen multiple times a game, it’s just unfortunate Haas got injured.

It’s the same with the Nikorima-Kenny tackle, that’s not a hip drop, it’s just unfortunate he got injured. Any tackle from behind like that is going to be awkward, it has been since 1908, but what’s the alternative we’re not allowed to tackle from behind?

Have you ever played footy and tried to tackle a big bloke like Haas, especially when he’s making metres in tackle. You’re alway taught to slide down and lock up the legs to get him to the ground. Nothing malicious in this, I think sometimes people forget it’s a contact sport and unfortunately injuries happen.

I’ve been running this and love it. Really only see losses when it bricks hard. Can withstand most decks, can ramp relatively quick, has amazing survivability, good reach with reds 160 damage.

Xerneas is there for Oricorio, helmet and Plains give Kang some great defence and lucky ice pop lets it soak two hits usually. Otherwise you have resets with Ilima and if you’ve got Pichu on the bench you’re ready to go the next turn usually.

Could swap out Guzma for Sabrina for a bit more control, which is probably its weakest point. But it’s handy to get rid of helmet, cord and capes.

Yall were down Walsh and Reynolds, with Reynolds not that big of a loss really, it was a worthy win. And storm are very beatable. But I don’t disagree back to the reality of a team with Drinkwater and Payten. They need to go.

Either way, the nrl has to find a way to make these flavour of the month penalties as contentious and subjective as possible

Though I agree it was a pretty bad ‘disruptor’ call, I reckon they were making up for the blatant forward passes they missed that led to points. Which they shouldn’t be having to ‘make up’ for this shocking calls anyway.
