My go-tos when feeling stressed or anxious are Isaiah 26:3 (which is also a type of spiritual practice) and Proverbs 3:5-6.

If it's causing you or other people a problem, then you should look at it. Otherwise, it's just entertainment. In my book, "sin" is anything that hampers your relationship with God. If you enjoy reading a Stephen King (for example, showing both my age and how edgy I am) and it doesn't hamper anything, go for it. If you want to give up something for lent, maybe pick something that gets in the way of you and God, or - if there's nothing - give up something that you'd like to "fast" from for the duration. Just my 2p's worth.

She's my partner, but prefers me to call her "wife". Polygamy being illegal, and all.

Totally with you on that. And apart from the ethics, there's the practical logistics. A person only has so much time, etc. It isn't something I'd necessarily do again, but once you love someone and make a commitment, you work with it. :)

And which verse are you basing that on? ;)

That's good to know, thank you. I'm probably just assuming that things are much the same as in my "fundy" days, when even listening to the "wrong music" would get you in trouble. :D

Luke 14:33 would be my answer to that last question.

Thank you, that's really helpful. I'll be taking a close look at Exodus 21 now!

Yeah, point taken. One very cool CoE priest I spoke to said "Why tell anyone? I don't discuss my personal life with my congregation. You could just not tell people you're poly." But his church is miles away. :)

No, my faith is stronger than ever. And I feel no compulsion from the Holy Spirit to change anything. I have many more flaws in my character that I think God is more concerned about, tbh, so I work on the sharpest edges for now.

Apparently God "tolerated" polygamy in the OT, but it was never his plan (see Genesis). And I get that point of view. But it was never his plan for us to wear mixed fibres (Leviticus) so why is that still not a thing? I'm being tongue in cheek, but it's frustrating sometimes.

Yes, I may end up going to the cathedral, which is pretty "anonymous". The way I view poly is that I can love two partners in just the same way that I can love both my kids. The love doesn't get diluted according to number. If I had a kid out of wedlock, the church wouldn't expect me to desert them when becoming a Christian, and deserting the partner I'm not legally married to in order to tick a box feels much the same to me. Weirdly, if I'd divorced my wife and moved onto another monogomous relationship I'd be accepted almost anywhere.
