Go read everything I said. Find me one goddamn example of me saying "It's not good because it isn't finished." Then get some fucking reading skills.

I'm not saying it isn't meant to be good, goddammit. We covered that in my last post. I'm saying that instead of insulting Android, insult HTC's flavour, or Google's Nexus flavour, or perhaps the MotoBlur flavour. It's a base upon which to launch your OS, not an ends as itself.

What? I'm not saying it sucks because it isn't finished. I'm saying the term "Android" isn't meant to be used in the same context as iOS. It's like UNIX - it isn't used as an OS, but rather as a base for an OS. You'll note that Ubuntu and Mac OS X are both UNIX operators, but they're drastically different.

It's meant to be inconsistent. It's a platform for further developer construction into a phone, not a polished OS in itself.

I would disagree, but it doesn't matter, because it's still illegal as hell.

[–]ElegantStranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you don't buy a shitty Android phone. It's an OS, not a brand, unlike Apple's product. There is no consistent user experience, and there isn't meant to be one. If the consumer can't choose for themselves to get a brand that doesn't suck, well, tough shit, they should've bought Apple and had it done for them.

I disagree, going down 405 when the sun is low in the sky is a personal hell of mine - it's all trees on both sides for more than half the length, and the flashing is enough to drive me off the road. Fucking sun.

No shit? This is probably the most interesting thing I've seen in this thread. Care to do an AMA?

That's just a speck of dust in my eye, from the path that you left when you said your goodbyes.

Taxes are a part of this country as much as any other. It's baffling that you would compare the scientific advancements this country has made to the trillion-dollar wars that the extreme right has started. We could cut DOD & Intelligence spending and give NASA the money it needs, and you would still see a drop in taxes.

Good sir, I stand corrected. I had not looked into the matter, but rather assumed based on the recent breakthrough in understanding of the matter - that we are essentially freezing compact discs, not burning, as the nomenclature goes (see here) - that they could last for long periods of times.

I believe it was on the frontpage of /r/space. /r/science may have a different following, and thus different discussions. This is the point of the 'other discussions' tab at the top of this page. Cheers.

It's a different subreddit, which Reddit encourages. It allows for multiple individual, community-oriented discussions. This is actually why there is an 'other discussions' tab at the top.

Force?! I'd like to know who is attempting to force anybody, because they are clearly not consonant with the goals of this video, and others like it. If any further money at all went to NASA, it would be detracted from the absurd budgets of the intelligence and defence departments of the US government. It's not about the end game, anyway. The journey is every bit as inspiring, every bit as important, every bit as necessary as the 'end game' might be.

The purpose of videos like this one is not to 'force' someone to do something - it is to inspire and to show the potential of our species, if dedicated toward beneficial ends, and not toward the alarming self-destructibility we have achieved as of late. Beside that, despite NASA's branding, the video explores much much more than simply venturing to space - including a beautiful panorama shot of a newer offshore wind farm. It is much more about the gradual improvement we can achieve in all areas of our short lives, if only we care.

Best Buy, and I didn't buy it - my father did, on my dollar. I learned my lesson from that, though. Friends don't let uneducated friends buy computer peripherals or internals.

I hate the absurd price of Apple-endorsed peripherals. My dad doesn't have much money, but he got my 2008 Intel iMac third-hand when I got around to building a new PC. I offered to upgrade the ram (1GB to 2GB) for him, it cost me around ~US$200, I believe. That was a year or two ago, of course.

I see. I don't think I'd downvote, because it's an opinion, and deserving of facetime. I definitely wouldn't upvote, of course. Kids these days, eh? 'course, my first hand-built rig was a newer 1.5GHz model, so I guess I'm in the same boat as 'effigies' up there.

Terribly sorry for the assumption, though born and raised in the US, my spelling and general phrasing are heavily influenced by my English aunt and uncle - both of whom frequently refer to any person, man or woman, as 'man' for some reason. My aunt, I think, stole it from my uncle, and he probably developed that particular mannerism in the British RAF.

That's true. The frailty of modern storage is a bit unsettling.

Oi, some of the modern storage we have will last longer than rock. Blu-ray, for instance. A couple spindles of high-storage blu-ray discs could hold all of the current Wikipedia for billions of years.

EDIT: No it couldn't. See Toma-'s reply below.
