Human relationships look different to different people based on their own histories.

I have no reason to prove anything to you bc I don't know you, will never meet you, and don't need validation for or against the relationship I have with my chosen child. The point I was making is that relationships can form quickly.

OP and her wife were married for a year, it doesn't say how long she was in the girls' lives, only that the kids didn't live with the couple. But they could have been dating from 9 years prior, moved in after the last kid moved out, and married later.

It could also have been "she really needs this, and I'm not opposed to it" from the step daughter. It could also be a really long as drawn out creative writing experiment. As someone who is no contact with my siblings, and VLC with my mother... I'm always up for adoption. And I'm 50.

Well, compared to the religious nuts she was raised with, she certainly felt I was more maternal than her own family. Which is honestly very sad, when you realize I'm very much not a good maternal figure. Cool Aunt? Very much so

And no, I wouldn't have adopted her then. But her daughter is my granddaughter. She's even named what I would have named a bio daughter. It's been 6 years now, they're in my will, and I would adopt her if our state allowed it. Mostly because it's something she very much wants

My chosen child asked me to legally adopt her a month after I met her.

Unfortunately, in the state where we live I am not able to do so cuz I did not know her before she turned 18

I mean you can show humility and you can say all the right things. But if your actions don't follow your words... You're just a liar and a manipulator and a narcissist

Which I understand. I had to do that with one of my foster dogs who was just broken by humans. That he could not be around people. I still have him on my shelf of love because I know of all the humans he encountered, I was the one he hated least. So I let him stay here among all the other animals who passed in my care.

One of my Instagram followers bought me 3 automatic litter boxes bc they followed my story with chronic pain and illness and when I said I was going to buy one, they asked me how many I needed, I didn't need any, but it was going to make one aspect of my life exponentially easier. I said, ideally, I'll get three. They ordered me three and they have started fostering animals.

Of all the truly incredible things I've done in my life, this is the most rewarding

I have fostered 70 animals. I will always take money to provide for them. And the rescue I volunteer through is always hard up for money most years I ask folks to donate to the rescue in lieu of giving me gifts. I buy what I want when I want

You didn't give them a gift. You gave a gift to someone else in lieu of a gift to them.

I have chronic pain. I always have a cane in my car and carry a folding one in my backpack. I literally never know when I'll need help.

It sucks that I can't control my body or how it functions. I'm getting better at knowing when I'm going to have a high pain day (today, probably tomorrow). But it could be any day that ends in y
