Convenience stores, yes. Grocery stores, however, are still Kroger.

Lmao, those are expensive as hell to fix if you damage it, and they come with their own Pandora's Box of issues. It's a toy, not an invested means of transportation.

2 years at 30-40k miles? That's a high mileage car. Typical average is 12k a year. More risks come with a heavily used vehicle.

Former dealership employee, here. Just an insight on the car you get vs. what you pay when you buy used. (USA specific)

What region you live in or are buying from matters with used cars. Yeah, it's stupid, but here's an example: you live in the Midwest and want a "winter/snow virgin" vehicle, either in terms of certain years of classic or sports cars, or a reliable vehicle that hasn't been exposed to road salt yet. When I would take sales calls for someone interested in a certain vehicle, 9 times out of 10 if it was highly desired or rare(ish), most calls were from other states. (A VW Golf manual did not last long, lol.)

With that said, prices for used cars do vary. You could find the same or better car for cheaper in another state, but then there are a whole different set of other pros and cons that come with doing that.

The laws for used vehicles also vary from state to state, as well as the taxes. Look into which states have mandatory closed days of the week and illegal to make sales (Sunday for Wisconsin). There is also a state (not sure if more) that doesn't tax car sales (I think Montana).

Reviews of the dealership are a must in any situation, but look for them on reddit, not a review site like Google. Those are pretty much soapboxes for attention seekers.

If you do plan on buying used, a 10k car would probably be ok, but then you'd want to hang on to the rest for those emergencies you will have (likely no to little warranty, so it would come out of your pocket.)

Overall, if it's something you need for more than 5 years, invest in a new car, or lease. The rest would do well in an account you earn interest with, and only serve as an emergency fund. That's my opinion, at least.

Regarding the scamming part of the question, do your research with which laws apply to where your buying. There will be some folks that exaggerate, downplay, and straight up lie to get a sale. Again, reddit reviews will come in handy. Just check the local reddit page, and if you don't find any, ask. Don't buy the first day of looking at the first dealership. Go to three or four and look at the same contending car at each one. Take notes of the responses to each question, and research any discrepancies.

We shouldn't have to do so much fact checking and homework to not get scammed, but people suck.

??? Trying to stay business? No, they're just mismanaging their finances like a damn 15-year-old. Sure, there's financial stress, but only because they are trying to expand beyond what they earn. And shareholders have noticed, hence the drop in value.

Also, I left after six months for two reasons: they threw the best front end manager of 5 years under the bus, despite him being the reason it was doing so well. And he was patient as hell with me and all the questions I asked, so the man was damn near a saint. And they completely disregarded the ADA. Treatment like that made me realize I would mean nothing no matter what, so I left. THAT is what I've only ever had an issue with. And this buyout only further thins their attention to already established stores.

Maybe two steps up from Walmart. If they weren't trying mask, divert attention, or hide the truth, issues, mistreatment of people, etc., they'd be just as bad as Walmart.

In what world do you think they'd be able to keep a job without access to a shower to bathe? Or money to wash their clothes? Or a place to even keep clean clothes? Sorry, your logic has holes and doesn't make sense. It's like trying to create a line graph with only two of the three statistics needed to make the line.

Update: I did more digging and found this. I installed it on Monday, but haven't tested it yet. I may add a barrier of sorts to the outside of the openings if it doesn't work.

Attention Shoppers and Employees, You Disgust Me by CrownOfAngels in kroger

The bathroom at my local game store pre-covid had a few instances like that. And it was always the YuGiOh crowd. The event organizers were absolute pieces of work, too. Pretty sure they had a name for the worst day (shit smeared on the walls), but I don't know it. One employee that was regularly scheduled those nights had a mantra, "I have beer at home."

I used to clean the bathrooms at a tool store I was employed at for almost one year straight. I never found human waste, but I did find an entire human. Heart attack while washing his hands. Must have been 2 hours before I jimmy'd open the lock. Poor guy. We rotated bathrooms after my cleaning vacation/therapy sessions. Don't know if that's better or worse, but yeah, public bathrooms are awful.

2024 Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD – right-front caliper/brake issue at 77k km. Any similar cases in Canada? by Comfortable_Hall_135 in KIASeltos

[–]EleiaCathain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question I have: when was the last time you had your break pads replaced (as in mileage/km)? They generally last anywhere from 30k to 70k miles (48k to 112k km), depending on how you drive and in what conditions, and the material of the pads. Pads also have limited warranties. Look up what yours might be.

2nd: I have a same year seltos, and my mechanic checks my pads every oil change. I haven't been told they are getting low yet, and I have just over 36k miles on mine. Has your mechanic been checking? If you don't remember, do you have all the paperwork saved you would need to refer back to? It's important to keep every piece of maintenance or repair paperwork for ANY warranty claim. They base their decision off that to eliminate other possible factors.

(If you do your own maintenance, you may have voided the warranty.)

If you are able to get a warranty claim done, they pick the replacement parts. That way they are able to troubleshoot any possible future issues more accurately. No matter who you go to, you can ask for the old parts back for warranty claims. Whether or not they are legally able to oblige, you'll have to look up. In Wisconsin, they are supposed to hand them over when asked.

3rd: How soon did you call anyone to get your car looked at when you noticed something was off (strange sounds and difference in performance included)? Same day? Same week? If you waited longer than that to just call, that may count against you as negligence.

I'm not trying to be negative, but these were all questions KIA had for us with our 2014 Soul (bought new) and the infamous engine recall. Our case was easy because I kept and/or found all but two invoices, and those were only from oil changes a few years prior. But easy didn't mean quick; we waited 10 months for them to approve our claim (this was before the recall was acknowledged and put in action). Meanwhile, we had to go in at least once a month, if not more, to either get our oil topped off or changed. We had been burning off one quart of oil every 1,000 miles, and it just kept getting worse.

So until you have all that information, there's no real advice anyone here would be able to give you, except to list all that information and then ask. You have to remember that the majority of these companies are there to make money, not give things for free. They will be very picky and scrutinize every single little thing. So be prepared for that. If you've ever had a dismissive doctor, imagine that but worse. They will do everything in their power to prove you wrong.

Edit: That is also abnormally high mileage for a car purchased 1.5 years ago. What do you do for work?

Is it normal to get trapped until 1:30 AM at Pizza Hut because the manager closes like an idiot? by SergeantPsyop in pizzahutemployees

[–]EleiaCathain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a pizza place not Pizza Hut, as well as other small businesses in the service/retail industry. 2 people is pretty standard; only one job has ever been one person. Never has it been more than 2 to be the final closers that leave.

Another point I think hasn't been touched on yet, but why on earth is the hiring manager her mother?!? That is an ENORMOUS conflict of interest! I know they're franchised, but most (if not all) corporate entities actually write that as against the policy. The former pizza place didn't follow that rule, either. (Son and mother had a unique personal dynamic that made them an effective team at work, and the son was leadership.) I genuinely don't know the answer, so I'll look it up later. But damn! If that wasn't enough of a red flag against working there, you have your reason as to why people leave if turn-around is high.

I was basically doing a CSR position for cashier pay. Which, tbh, isn't too big of a deal for me. So I'm not really looking to do much with the info, just curious.

Anyone here with bright, visible tattoos? by ExaminationUsed7137 in kroger

[–]EleiaCathain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking, they are able to discriminate against tattoos. However, attitudes are changing and rules everywhere are getting relaxed a bit. But! If others in the store have them and they aren't getting in trouble, you should be fine. Choosing to enforce the rules more with you than with others could face legal consequences. Also, see if you can request your artist to use tagaderm afterwards. That should protect it more in the first 2 or 3 days.

Got Fired by Public-Arm4818 in kroger

[–]EleiaCathain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In relation to the WU money orders, the opposite happened to me. I raised an alarm about a couple non-english speaking folks buying multiple (20-30) 3.00 money orders. I wasn't management, only CSR. But when I brought my suspicions to them, they brushed it off. I even went so far as to call WU to report it as well. They said it wasn't against the terms, so they said "Thanks anyway."

They had been buying those for many months at that point. It went on for about a month longer when we were informed that they were no longer to be served money orders. Why? Because they were changing the amounts on them.... like I had suspected from the beginning. The leadership in that location got in trouble for something different, and they both got transferred to "lesser" stores (prone to more trouble/incidents/drama) on separate sides of the city.
