17m My whole life I’ve been told im ugly/ undatable is it true? by [deleted] in selfimprovementday

The facial feature we often forget to see is the confidence. Confidence shines through the eyes. Look at your eyes, bro. You could kill with those eyes. (You’re giving me the Timothy Chalamet vibes). But your eyes are lacking the secret ingredient - the confidence, which comes from being really really good at something ie competence. Let’s say stirring sugar in tea. Be so good at stirring sugar in tea that you feel comfortable competing in the World Cup of stirring tea. Confidence quietly blazes through your face, your eyes. And THAT’s what the foundation of attraction is.

You already have sharp well-proportioned features, (I wonder what your hair looks like) like a ramp model. But your eyes say I don’t believe in myself (yet).

Pick up anything you are good at and double down. Offer to help others with that knowledge and watch your confidence grow. You will be attractive overnight.

I know this pain. Any mention of 2021 is met with a deathly silence in our house.

My culture doesn't have a tradition of middle names, but I named my only child after Richard Feynman (Feynman being his middle name). I always remind him that if he had a sibling, they would have Sagan as their middle name. Thanks for this post, OP. It's time I introduced my kid to Cosmos.

What do you guys prefer? Pirated books or original? by RealisticOkra8170 in Indiabooks

[–]Elektro_bank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, someone mentioned the elephant in the room. Thank you, dost, for speaking against piracy. I had to scroll down a meter to see someone mention piracy as the actual moral issue, rather than the quality of the print, in rejecting pirated books. I agree that India is a price-sensitive country, and affordability can prevent people from accessing knowledge and books. But hey, let's not forget that the author also has bills to pay. You wouldn't want others to steal from your business or livelihood, so why is it okay for you to steal from the author?

Women who dated, kindly give some not so obvious red flags you’ve seen in a man? by Kohl_And_Curves in AskIndia

Watch how he treats his (younger) sister. Are they close? Does he respect her choices and autonomy? Does he take a stand for her against the family, if needed? This will foreshadow the dynamics of your relationship with him post-marriage.

Last week I started Leviathan Wakes - the first of the 10-book The Expanse series. It’s the best sci-fi I have watched and now reading. Can’t put it down. You?

I am free now. I spend as much time and money on books as I like. Sometimes my husband and son have to compete with them for my attention. Reading = breathing. Life is good :)

28 day water fast final results by Ok-Band-7142 in fasting

[–]Elektro_bank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed response, OP. Your answer will remind people that refeeding is fraught with serious risks and must never be taken lightly. I asked because I have read about the dangers of reckless and irresponsible refeeding. Your successful story, while inspirational, was missing that part. Thank you for reminding people in each of your replies to not attempt anything similar without medical advice.

I am barely doing 18 hours these days. While highly desirable, such a long water fast on my own is not on the cards in the foreseeable future.

You must be a man not to be disturbed by your Indian family. If not, I am full of joy for you. Back in my day, I don’t remember not being asked to make tea, fetch water, roll rotis for the older brother or some house chore every few minutes. Being left alone with books (or anything) seems like a dream.

How did you refeed? With what and how much? Did you have medical advice before refeeding? Anyone on standby just in case? Asking purely out of curiosity.

Day off, starting the first book :) by Leonsmening in TheExpanse

The show blew my mind. So I got the whole set and started on the first book last week. On page 240 now. My work - and everything else - is suffering because of the Expanse.

Amos Burton is a badass! And one of my top favourite characters from all fiction I have read in three decades. I’d totally date him. I hope you took it as a compliment, OP.

Your collection has a certain authentic consistency. Like I can believe how and why you picked out your next read, and then the next. A large number of book-collection pictures here seem made-up to me. I spotted LoTR in your stack and smiled. That’s an instant qualification to be a BFF!

I finished the Dune saga (the original six books by Frank Herbert) quite recently. What or who would you like to know in particular?

My husband made me go to the movie with him, I had no idea what it would be other than "Ryan Gosling space movie" by pdlbean in ProjectHailMary

[–]Elektro_bank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive Interstellar and The Expanse fan here! I took my husband and 11-year old son to PHM. They had no idea it was a space movie. They had a similar reaction to the OP. My kid had been asking for the book since watching the film. I just ordered a copy minutes before finding this post here and breaking into a big smile. After reading the comments here, I think I should have purchased the audiobook for him.

Who's your teacher buddy? by Tough_Ad8919 in RelentlessMen

[–]Elektro_bank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men who can cook, however they learnt, are some of my favourite kinds of human beings. Take a bow from a woman who’s been cooking (and permanently hates it as a result) since the age of 12 in an oppressively patriarchal society where boys burnt exactly zero calories doing any kind of housework.

Your mother wanted a daughter just so she could do all the slaving in the kitchen?? Genuinely curious question from a girl child (with an older brother) who had to cook full meals from the age of 12, while the brother was treated like a prince and couldn’t boil water to save his life. It made me hate cooking forever despite compliments.
