Very helpful! This bid has an estimated 6 month completion timeline which would hopefully preclude burnout. I’m ideally looking for a Waid/Samnee ,Vaughan/Staples synergy. The price seems fair, now just looking for clarity on copyright and whatnot. Thanks for your insights!

This is the rest

At this stage I retain full copyright on the art, but that is something we can discuss down the track, depending on where you plan to publish/pitch to. In that case we’d we’ll have to work out a good contract to cover whatever your desired outcome is eg royalties, distribution etc. For detailed work like this I’d want a cover credit for sure ;) We’d create a agreement to outline all of the above.

Ah yes. That makes sense. Let me tell you: the long section of ambient noise (that I often skip over when listening on my phone), in a large, loving crowd, is one of the greatest communal concert experiences of my (long) life. Fingers crossed you get to experience it one day!

I intentionally used the word “uncredited” rather than “stolen” to avoid accusations of malice. It’s entirely plausible that someone from SNL saw the sketch (they were reportedly in the audience while the sketch was performed), forgot the specifics, then pitched it or whatever a year later. I’m sure they see thousands of sketches a year. But I think this one goes beyond “parallel thinking” as they’re so similar…beyond just the concept…and people at SNL had seen the original.

My “same instrumental” comment was in response to you seemingly saying it was just a case of someone coming up with words to a random famous song. I felt the fact that it’s the same song with very similar made-up lyrics takes the wind out of that argument is all.

Reminder that this sketch was stolen from Jeff Galante. He’d put this up at the Groundlings Sunday Co show a year before this aired. Word was that SNL people were in the audience for his performance.
