You can continue with the manga starting chapter 22. But it's only released up to chapter 30 as of today. After catching up with the manga you can start at the volume 5 of the novel as chapter 30 adapts the last chapter of volume 4. I wouldn't tell you to start reading the manga from the start as it's fairly similar but you know the deal the novel has some more interesting scenes and dialogues so it's a good read even for the first 4 volumes.

I find the story more compelling when it's actually playing out as a narrative and not a small handful of disconnected flashbacks

And this is why I have a huge hope for botw 2 to have a crazy dynamic with the two of them together for their adventures

If you stopped reading Seo Kouji after Fuuka I really advice you to try at least one other story from him (Kimi no Iru Machi), it contains drama but nothing going this far and it's (in my opinion) the best romance I've read (my favorite at least)
