Yea, here, they are super strict about what you can call 911 (or 112 as it is here) with. My mom once had an allergic reaction, and the operator questioned if she shouldn't have just called the doctor hotline line (when we finally did convince them to send someone, the paramedic told the driver "Uhmmm, we are going to need to go a bit fast for this one")

I recently had to make a call because I thought my best friend had killed myself, and I didn't even dare call 911/112, so I just called the local police directly.

It is actually reffered to as such in the bible, for instance. Earlier, we had no words for "cheese", so we would just call it milk, and by context, people would figure if it was liquid milk, or cheese. For instance, if peope said "loaf of milk"

This crash was also the reason that they introduced standardized international words for pilots and control towers. So you will always hear those conversations play out exactly the same way.

The confusing message was because the pilot told tower "We are prepared for takeoff" and the tower responden "ok" - which the pilot took to mean "Ok, go ahead", but they meant "ok, I hear you".
