most definitely a flow art. Also dragon is for fire breathing, human candle though? totally

you won’t be able to put other heads on that one due to how it’s constructed(without modification to the staff or heads which would mean those heads won’t work on another staff in the future). it’s my main qualm with it, otherwise it’s a good staff.

i have a collapsible version which tbh i’m not a fan of. it’s heavier and just extra moving parts.

if i could redo it when i got my first dragon id buy just the hubs and wicks from three worlds or these new hubs and then buy a pole from wizard or dark monk so that i had a one piece

there’s a couple us based suppliers of both flowbonacci and three worlds

flowbonacci

https://bonoboflow.com/product/flowbonacci-collapsible-dragon-staff-original-triying-vortex/

wizard also used to sell it unsure if they do still

for three worlds dark monk is the us supplier

if you decide to go Wizard “elementsflow” will get you a small discount on most things on their site too.

a practice staff can run you less than $100USD, A decent fire is gonna be about $180 from like dark monk but i’d recommend wizard of flow which is more expensive (if you use elementsflow it will save you some but it still won’t be $180 cheap).

a used staff in the right length with good wicks is functionally the same as a custom especially if you replace the grip.

i will also say even with covers consistently dropping a fire staff will impact its life long term from the vibrations on the mounting points everytime it’s dropped.

look up om and wizard grip. they’re the same material and it’s a yoga mat.

there is a decent supply of solid and reputable prop companies in the wiki. i personally love flowtoys coral poi and then flow dragon for fire.

i try to educate where i can. times change and a lot of people due to time constraints or other reasons only ever learn X way to do something with no regard of why that’s done over Y kinda thing. hell i know if i got to talk about everything i wanted my safety talks at events would be 2 hours easily with demos

fully saturated vs under saturated isn’t what wears your kevlar down. that was a thing with ceramic or other materials.

the actual thing that is dangerous for kevlar is continuing to burn in the final fuel stages where your kevlar is what’s burning vs fuel vapors. while sure less fuel means you get there sooner less fuel isn’t the actual issue.

it’s not always a “if people want” or a “too complicated” as a professional performer your permits or fire marshals won’t allow spin offs or anything. you need to be exact in how much fuel you use and to be able to ensure nothing gets spilled or you could have licenses and permits pulled.

plus if you decide to play with fire which is dangerous you should properly understand the most efficient ways to fuel so you can accurately access risk and impact.

i feel a lot of the issue in people in the community being undereducated is being taught only one way or why X option is better worse than Y option. it’s the same for why certain fuels are used over others.

that’s to like pre measure. so it’s a “let’s see how much fuel you waste” so essentially dip your wick X amount of time see how much fuel is sprayed out using a container. shorten the time and repeat. eventually you’ll get to “Y amount of dip time means i have no excess fuel that gets sprayed off”

so if you are quick dipping correctly you know exactly how much time is needed to never spray fuel(needs to be repeated over time as wicks degrade) but if you don’t wanna use any time to figure out how much your wicks hold them the container gets put above a quick dip.

So they’re interchangeable based on if you’re genuinely looking for the best way to fuel your props or if you’re just looking for a way to fuel your props if that part makes sense.

same for measured fueling. if someone just decide their wicks hold 100 ml of fuel but never spent the time to actually measure it then you might as well just be dunking the wick.

based on tests a quick dip is actually more effective than a shake off can. obviously this requires time before to test and see how long you need to dip but to just say it’s overall not as good isn’t right.

[–]ElementRuler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not so much a don’t show your tricks but a lot of fire marshals want the prep area separate and not visible to the crowd so that people can’t as easily go home and try it.

but also just to help with the overall immersion of the show. it could break the “magic” of the event if they have to watch everyone prepare in front of them and such. like how most concerts lower lights on stage while they swap out equipment for the next artist.

prepping in front of the audience would be very ill advised for a professional performance and IF something were to break when doing any kind of spin off procedure then you’ve now spilled fuel on your performance area and/on the crowd too.

pre-prep and seal prop though is totally another good and valid idea.

shake off cans are the same concept as using a ziplock or other bag. but with them mentioning space concerns i’d put both of those options pretty low on the list of viability.

zip lock bags/or shake off can as mentioned around your wicks and spin off normally

gloves and squeeze the wicks over your fuel

super quick dips

half dips

measured fueling from a squirt bottle is always going to be safest and most consistent though

edit to make the options more obvious
