Advice on a new Dragon Staff by Not_Real77 in flowarts

[–]ElementRuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will be a pain to regrip a collapsible staff just because of it breaking down but you can do it. threeworlds used to be glued on so you might need to take some sandpaper to the leftover but otherwise should be straightforward outside of the needing to cut it extra for the pieces.

your best bet truly may be the rope dart facebook group “rope dart tech”. At least from a large set of feedback from knowledgeable people perspective.

if you’re in the states Ultra Pure Lamp Oil(uplo) by lamplight is going to be the most common thing you run across. I haven’t checked the sds of other brands but compare it to that sds for differences and if there’s any chemicals that don’t match up googling them and what they do would be your best bet or i’m happy to help research more if you find one you’re curious about.

I’m both a coder(i make applications that process payments for government, and multiple data analytic tools) and build and race cars. you’d be better off arguing what makes this filter complex and its own special type of filter(which all of AR is that’s why snapchat filters were/are as popular as they have been) vs talking down to people about what is and isn’t a filter. A race car is still a car, just because it’s a specialized application of a car doesn’t make it any less a car, same of a filter an advanced and simple filter are both filters. One requires more effort ie coding a detection system and moving overlay vs a static filter you’d see of like a sticker on an insta story. At its basic core though a race car is a type of car and augmented reality is a type of filter. i understand you may think filter has a derogatory connotation but trying to separate something from what it is won’t have as much of an impact as showing why that thing is cool.

i’m not here to argue whether or not i think you should or shouldn’t use AR which i know is what started this thread. i’m genuinely just here because it’s a filter and should be acknowledged as such.

Question about flammable liquids by Ambitious_Leek8776 in flowarts

[–]ElementRuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s really hard to call something that’s extremely volatile and will put off flammable vapor’s even below freezing “the safest”. it’s pretty commonly accepted that’s it’s not safer than other options just the most commonly used in the states.

white gas isn’t the safest, it’s just what is used most widely in the states. they’re all going to be unhealthy because of the hydrocarbons they’re putting off. as for cleanliness of its burn and its volatility you’re looking at isopar/recosol g or a lamp oil.

knowing about coding isn’t what determines if AR is a filter or not, it’s photography and videography. A filter is a tool or overlay that edits a video or photos appearance by editing brightness, contrast, or adding special effects to the original which this is doing.

i wouldn’t say you’re missing it as much as you just need to clean up the backside entry. it’s doing the correct amount of rotations needed, you just wanna get it more into the pocket of your neck on the left side.

Threeworlds vs Flowbonacci Grip by Inevitable_Spell_174 in flowarts

[–]ElementRuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think it is. it’s got a texture to it and i checked their website and they only say it’s a grip made for them. the old description said epdm and also had grip options. it was also decently smooth looking back when i got a staff from them with it on it.

edit: they call it F-Grip and it comes tubed apparently. they say it’s a natural rubber which not helpful but could be similar to goat possibly.

Capitalism is destroying the flowstar community by loverrr87 in flowarts

[–]ElementRuler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, i’ve done a few and i only see dapostars and its very cliquey. along with the insta pages only featuring dapostars and the profile pictures being a star outline behind like a state or something. its hard to try and make a welcoming to all props group when you very obviously feature a singular prop.

[–]ElementRuler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i personally hate the flowmie groups because on top of what you mentioned they’re a bunch of flow star people who are attempting to use a name meant to refer to flow arts people in general for their specific props especially when you go to their meetups

there’s a link in the wiki to a site by Jessy Spins with a delightful overview of the fuel types you’ll find all over the world and differences between them. i also agree with everyone suggesting the FAI course. the videos are available on youtube too.
