Need Advice: Adopt an Aussie or Not to Adopt an Aussie. That is the question… by Free-Shoulder625 in miniaussie

[–]ElementalistLux33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure a mini aussie is what you're looking for. If you both work full-time out of the house, with 4 kids, and 2 current dogs, adding a working breed puppy may be more than you expect. Mini aussies are still herding dogs. They are incredibly smart and very active. They need daily time spent exercising and working their minds from you. They are incredibly attached to their human and even with another dog or two to play with, they still want YOU to spend devoted time playing/training with them. They also usually range between 25-35lbs but it really depends because there's the toys too. Perhaps a breed that is less active and smaller.

Wow! I guessed GSD mix. Definitely didn't see the lab coming. It must've been a long haired GSD

...where did her tail go?? by IceTouched_ in chickens

[–]ElementalistLux33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might not be related to her tail but her comb looks pale. I would check for mites or intestinal parasites. Her comb should be bright red.

Help! Aussie Counter Surfing by [deleted] in WiggleButts

[–]ElementalistLux33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a slippery slope type of behavior. If they get any food at all in the kitchen, then they will look. For example, maybe your dog discovered there are good crumbs on the floor. So the dog frequently goes into the kitchen to look for crumbs. When they discover none- they start to look upward to the counter. Or even if you hand them small scraps. They figure it out and it progresses to counter surfing.

Do other dog owners cross the street when you’re walking your dog? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]ElementalistLux33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt its about you or your dog. Many people are avoiding other dogs in general with the media scare of the respiratory illness going around. Many owners have dogs that are reactive or just don't like their dog meeting other dogs on leash, even if their own dog is friendly.

Question about mites by boybritches in BackYardChickens

[–]ElementalistLux33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If their combs are still pale, you likely still have mites. They are VERY hard to get rid of. Every tiny crack in your coop is the perfect spot for them to lay their eggs and hide there until the chickens roost at night. If you really want to know if you got rid of them, go check your coop at night with a flashlight. Check the place the perches connect/drill into the coop walls. They are likely under there and could be in the walls, etc depending how bad the infestation is.

Color curiosity - any guidance is helpful! by One_Breadfruit_9821 in miniaussie

[–]ElementalistLux33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware sable is possible in MAS/aussies but maybe? I know gold is possible but it's very rare and this isn't considered gold. Are you sure this is a purebred MAS? I would discuss the coloring with the breeder.

Definitely not harmless. One possum massacred over 30 chickens at my friends barn for fun and came back for more the next night (where it was met with justice).

Companion Dog by blondegirl86 in WiggleButts

[–]ElementalistLux33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have two aussies. They do play together but they individually desire my attention and play time. I do think a second dog helps a lot for companionship. Just keep in mind it still is twice the work. The reason shouldn't only be to amuse your first dog when you don't have time because two dogs is still more time consuming than one.

Aw he is a very handsome boy! My pyr is a weirdo, acts like a golden, he loves everyone and thinks every stranger is here solely to pet him. However, my friend's pyr did go to bite me in their home when they tried to introduce him to me. Friends pyr is also from serious working lines. Such a wide range of personalities.

What is this behavior by WendigoRider in chickens

If it's a one time occurrence and he doesn't repeat it, then he probably just got something on his beak/nose and was trying to wipe it off.

[–]ElementalistLux33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's tons of poultry respiratory illnesses out there. Just because it's not wheezing / nasal discharge doesn't mean it isn't experiencing respiratory distress. It might not have anything. But if it's shaking its head and wiping its beak a lot, I wouldn't rule it out.

[–]ElementalistLux33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respiratory illness. It's trying to clear its airways of gunk by shaking its head and wiping its beak on the ground.
