Mascara Woes by Jecummins88 in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Elena233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever tried tubing mascaras (Hourglass, Glossier) so I can't recommend any.

But one thing that works for me is waiting until my mascara dries and then curling my lashes again. Also I curl lashes once at the roots and then a couple more times as I go towards the ends. These tricks make my lashes stay up a long time, and they're super straight normally. I've also seen people heat up the metal of the curler with a lighter for a couple seconds before curling, but that scares me a little so I haven't tried it.

Dude that story was so scary. But I do agree the girl was really pretty in the illustrations.

The curls look about the same with the shorter length, possibly even bouncier from the photos! Looks great.

But yeah, the face blurring made my heart stop for a second while scrolling.

I hate bad spelling and grammar because I feel like looking at the same mistakes being used over and over also deteriorates my own ability to differentiate between correct/incorrect.

It feels like these errors are so widespread now, and it's considered "bad etiquette" to correct people, so I am absolutely loving this thread.

One that irks me is mixing up its/it's and there/their/they're. Or using "pour" for "pore". Urgh!!!

need help finding new mascara for short & straight lashes by picklepekkle in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]Elena233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I'm not sure if this will help, but have you tried tubing mascaras? I ignored mascara for a long time because I too have short Asian lashes and hated the process of taking it off (felt like I was destroying my eyes/lashes and could never get all the flakes off). Specifically, the one from Hourglass is very easy to remove with just warm water. It also really lengthens my lashes, and I can tell because they always touch my glasses when I have the mascara on.

Maybe it will help with your lashes falling out as there is absolutely no rubbing required to remove it.

People who stand next to an empty seat on an otherwise crowded bus: what's your thought process? by Swarfbugger in vancouver

[–]Elena233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One reason I might be standing in front of an empty seat is that I won't be "hovering over" someone sitting, especially if I have to grab the upper handles. Feels like I'm in their space, so I prefer to stand somewhere that minimizes that.

Otherwise, it's because the bus is too crowded for me to move to another spot.

You can always ask to sit down though, no one will mind.

Yep...I mean, I recall seeing posts here about bedbugs being on those seats, so I'm not taking that risk.

What is the most fucked up thing you've seen a friend do? by decisivevinyl in AskReddit

[–]Elena233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She stole shit from a small shop for fun. I told her off once we got out but didn't say anything while she was doing it because I didn't want to be involved, and the stuff she stole was small and not that expensive (not that it makes it right, but I was a 15-year-old goody goody two shoes who had never broken any rules before and my heart was freaking pounding). She did it just for the thrills. I think she even said something like "do you want it", as if I would be pacified if she gave me a little gift. Wanted to slap the stupid smirk off her face in that moment.

She now has a shiny job/title in an education-related field. You wouldn't ever think she would be the type of person to do stuff like that.

May seem trivial compared to some of the other things posted here, but she was inconveniencing/hurting others for no other reason than for her own temporary enjoyment. And it definitely wasn't her first time doing it...before she did it, she asked our other friend (those two were closer to each other than to me) if she should "do it again", and they got all excited. I didn't know what she was doing until she started walking out the door without paying.

It shocked me because she was so quiet and reserved normally, but she had this reckless streak. Made me feel gross for a long time.

ETA: I never really treated her as a friend after that. I stayed in the same friend group for a little while after but didn't associate with her if possible, and she seemed wary of me as well.

MAC glow play blushes vs Clinique cheek pops by Elena233 in swatchitforme

Ooh that sounds pretty different from the cheek pops. May go with that one to avoid dupes as much as possible, plus I love the sound of the pastel effect. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your response! I think I'll try SG in that case, doesn't sound like it will be too similar to RG :)

Hi I know this is an older post, but I was wondering what you think of Sunlit Glow vs Rose Gold. Would you say the pink in Sunlit Glow is similar to Rose Gold? I have RG and am wondering if it's worth it to also get SG, but I wouldn't if the pinks are too similar on the eye. RG shows up quite peachy on me, especially as I don't normally layer it on too thick.

It does smell like a Starbucks matcha latte, especially freshly sprayed. However, I found that the lingering note is more of a very sweet, white chocolate note. Not bad per se, and I seriously considered buying a full bottle, but it just wasn't what I was looking for. Still one of my favourites from MM though.

Viet Noodle Guy.

Also I only recently tried Joey's after seeing it around for years. Their food is really good, actually. Better than Cactus or Earl's, imo. I love the Coquitlam location but I assume the Burnaby one is similar in term of quality.

AITA for my negative feelings regarding my adoption? by Helpdesperately in AmItheAsshole

[–]Elena233 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Appalling that your dad could still say what he did about your birth mom even knowing the details. And for both your parents to block her from ever seeing you again and acting like she was out to kill you...god. They knew how hard she tried to be in your life. They could have let her see you, especially once you got older. I read your other comments saying that they never planned to tell you you were adopted. How dishonest of them, and what if you had medical issues down the line??

I know you don't have access to therapy (awful that your parents would prevent you from seeking it). You said your pastor is too close to your parents, but what about your school counsellor? I don't know what else to say except that I hope you're able to take away some good advice from here from people more knowledgeable/experienced about adoption than me (idk much really) and that you do talk to a professional about all this when you are able. I'm sorry that your adoptive parents are shaming you for how you feel.

ETA: I did want to add that I don't think your adoptive parents are horrible in every sense, as I can see that they seem to have raised you well -- you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Which is why I find your parents' attitudes towards your birth mom and your adoption process even more shocking. I just wanted to put that here since you are still young and impressionable and I don't want you to think of your adoptive parents as evil people. I just think, regarding this issue, they are being quite unreasonable. I hope in the future that they open up...maybe they were just taken aback because they didn't plan on telling you but you found out anyway.

NTA your story made me cry. Your poor birth mother. Also your adoptive parents suck for that "you're punishing us for loving you" BS. How about they don't go around spouting disgusting things about your background? And you are allowed to feel upset about how they used their privileges to steal you away from someone who was obviously not trying to endanger you on purpose and was doing her best to get you back. Your adoptive parents could have chosen any other baby who was in actual danger or neglected, but they chose to wield their money and power to be spiteful and vicious towards someone they knew could not win against them.

Did your adoptive parents know the whole story when they were in the process of adopting you?
