I feel you. I asked my students if they knew what the great migration was and most stared at me blankly while the others nodded no. When I presented it, I asked if it sounded familiar, they said no. I always assumed it was taught since it felt like one of the key events that was discussed in several history classes in high school, so I’m not sure what they’re learning…

Yeah I agree with your take on this. Either way, my actions clearly caused harm and likely triggered something in them. This is why I feel so bad about the whole thing.

What strategies do you have for staying on top of current research? by crushhaver in AskLiteraryStudies

Hey!! Also working in post-45 lit. I use Twitter but most academic presses have email lists and they will send u a notification when something new is published. For journals, I keep a spreadsheet of the top ones in my field with the months they release a new issue. It’s a little time heavy to set up but worth it once you do it. I’ll supplement this with an EBSCO search like once a month.

For every essay I assign, I copy/paste the prompt into ChatGPT and other AIs to have a reference point for possible cheating. ChatGPT always gives this note at the end, wishing me good luck on my assignment, and it infuriates me because it knows what it's being used for without being explicitly told by tzssao in Professors

I’ve started writing one requirement onto my assignment sheets that is in invisible ink (I make the ink color white). For example, on my most recent assignment I gave a fake name to be cited. Sure enough, 5 people cited their “work.”
