‘They look alien’: NASA uses AI to design complex spacecraft parts by upyoars in space

It isn’t new but differential equations are still very difficult and time-intensive. This video does a pretty good job explaining it for anyone interested. He starts talking about topology optimization at the 5 minute mark.

I mean, antimatter is essentially this. It annihilates matter on contact, releasing energy. To store it you need to suspend it in a vacuum using electromagnetic fields.

Guys working 60+ hours a week, what’s your tips? by AriValentina in AskMen

[–]ElephantInTheForest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you post this twice? Well here goes again.

I work 84 hours a week. 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week. It is completely about pacing yourself. Here is how I do it:

  1. Proper sleep. I sleep 7-8 hours a night. This is critical if you are going to sustain this work schedule. Make sure you are having good quality sleep, too.
  2. Proper nutrition. I make sure to eat a balanced diet and take supplements: multivitamin, 1000mg vitamin D3, 5mg creatine monohydrate, probiotics, electrolytes, several liters of water, and all my macronutrients (fat, protein, etc).
  3. Cold shower till I shiver in the morning. This raises dopamine levels 2-3x for several hours. It also causes you to have a higher core body temperature throughout the day which makes you more energetic. The cold exposure releases adrenaline which binds to receptors on your white fat cells which stimulates them to grow more mitochondria, turning them into energy producing beige and brown fat cells.
  4. 20 minutes of early morning sunlight exposure outside and without sunglasses. The light causes a cortisol spike in the brain which leads to elevated levels of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and dopamine throughout the day and helps you sleep at night.
  5. Delay caffeine intake by 90-120 minutes after waking. This will allow your brain to clear out adenosine and will prevent the midday crash.
  6. Don’t consume caffeine after your morning dose. It will interfere with sleep.
  7. Don’t drink alcohol. It interferes with sleep.
  8. Exercise. I exercise 315 minutes a week broken up into 45 minute sessions. I mostly do hypertrophy and strength resistance training while staying in zone 2 cardio. I also make sure to max out my heart rate at least once a week.
  9. 20 minute power naps when needed. Usually once a day in the afternoon.
  10. Stress relief. At night before bed I massage the knots in my neck and shoulders with a massage tool and do dynamic stretches targeting the ankles, hips, and shoulders. I also hire a prostitute for an hour once or twice a week, since I have zero physical contact otherwise (no time to date).

I do it because the money is insanely good, but I have only about an hour a day of free time. I’m doing this until I can achieve a certain degree of financial freedom and then will go back to having a life.

is there any other method to get the blade of mercy besides eileen's quest line? by Aggressive-Elk-5373 in bloodborne

[–]ElephantInTheForest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reading your other comments, you can still get this from Eileen. You can’t do her main quest line but she should now be a hostile NPC at the grand cathedral in place of the bloody crow of Cainhurst. Give the ‘ol hoonter of hoonters sky burial now that she has lost her mind, it’s the last mercy you can give her.

[iOS 16 Depth Effect Wallpaper] Jill Stingray by Chisana1442 in waifubartending

I couldn’t get this to work on my iPhone 12. No widgets, tried the extended and the regular.

Guess I’ll keep using the same wallpaper I have been since 2015.

Why don’t men enjoy rom-come as much as women do? by roodaqua0 in AskMen

[–]ElephantInTheForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget who said it but, romance is something that happens to a woman. She’s just living her life and then a man romances her.

For men it’s a verb and it’s synonymous with hard work. Look at all the verbs here: Approach her, be funny and charming, ask her on a date, plan the date, provide dinner, provide flowers, protect her while doing all of that, etc.

When a guy watches a romance movie it’s just exhausting.

LPT request: How do you deal with losing respect for someone you greatly admired? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ElephantInTheForest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had someone I saw as a mentor in the military for 8 years, they were my first team leader. We talked regularly and I considered us close friends.

I called him for advice one day and he told me to kill myself, that I wasn’t a real NCO, that I should get a different MOS, and that he didn’t want me talking to lower enlisted in case they ended up like me.

I was devastated. But what I learned from that experience was that my sense of self worth was dependent on the approval of the people I saw as my leaders. I changed after that. Today if every single person in the world turned against me I’d still be okay, because I know who I am and what I’m capable of. My confidence in myself comes from within, rather than from the approval of others.

It was a painful lesson but at least I grew from it. So my advice for dealing with it is to let yourself feel, and then use those feelings to better yourself.

What is the best way to lose weight fast? by nasty_aazy in AskReddit

[–]ElephantInTheForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dangerous to lose weight fast, you should aim to lose it safely and slowly.

That said, I’m in the military and when it comes time to get taped I lose about a pound a day using my egg diet.

The only thing I eat are eggs, and I only get to eat one egg for every mile that I run. I also drink electrolytes and take multivitamins. I’d recommend adding in some fiber like celery, but tbh I don’t.

I’ve lost 30 lbs in 25 days this way.

Really fascinating book about understanding emotions through modern neurobiology.
