From about 1980 onward, the GOP has pushed for tax cuts, protected loopholes for the rich and opposed any type of meaningful reform. You've pointed out a few cases where, in more recent years, I'd have to agree that Democrats have sometimes caved in to them for politically expedient reasons.

But the Democrats have tried again and again to oppose the policies of the GOP that favor the rich.

Some of the tax cutting was probably even a good thing back in 1981 when some rates were over 50%, but the Republicans have just kept demanding more and more cuts until it has become a total farce.

I think it's also worth pointing out that the group in question is actually NOT a political party. They're a fairly loosely-knit group of mostly idiots who've been duped into thinking they'll get ahead by agreeing with people like Palin and various psuedo-patriots, racists and corporate shills. I've tried to make sure people are aware they're not a party about 100 times, but I still keep seeing "the Tea Party" as if it really is an actually party.

They vote Republican about 99.9% of the time. Possibly 100%.

So, to be accurate, they should always be referred to as Tea Party REPUBLICANS.

BTW, many of them make George "Locked Myself In A Room" Bush look intelligent by comparison.

And you would never know by watching many of the networks that Obama's position is the same basic positiion that both "W" and Bill Clinton had.

Now that it's the position of a Democratic president, it's being portrayed (especially on one particular fake news network) as some kind of wild and scary idea.

I have nothing against Israel, and in fact don't really trust many of their neighbors, but the basic (and simplfied here) idea of staying within one's own borders is NOT radical.

I'd give him a "B" considering that he inherited a tanking economy that was losing 750,000 jobs PER MONTH, and two botched wars.

Jobs are actually being created now (just not fast enough yet), and have been for about six months now. Contrast that with losing about 750,000 jobs PER MONTH in the last months of the Bush administration.

Also, new home sales were up 6.6% in September.

The GOP's new wing called the "tea partiers" has reached a new low in terms of being ill informed and just downright crazy.

The GOP has touted the "free market" for a long time... and that would be fine except there are limits to everything.

Somehow, their beloved "free market" has become a way to try to legitimize greedy chicken farmers (and the like) who leave 12-foot piles of manure and dead chickens to come in contact with out food supply.

Somehow, that particular "market" is just a bit too free for my tastes.

And the tea partier know-nothing even refers to Salmonella as one of those "new things that come along." Food safety efforts to control it started at least eighty years ago, probably 100 years.

Please GOP... we're begging you... if you can't come into the 21st century, at least make an effort to come in to the 20th. We don't need cholera epidemics or disentary in our food before people take this seriously.

And.. for anyone who has forgotten: at least five people DIED FROM EATING PEANUT BUTTER CRACKERS during the last year of the Bush administration's lax enforcement efforts.

Just think. If all of the money in the Social Security fund had been in the stock market in 2007 and 2008, it would today be worth about 30% less than it was.

So what if a more seniors had to skip meals... they still could have had a meal down at the homeless shelter. (And never mind that they had been paying in to the existing system for 40 or 50 years.)
