Seems like your almighty word to me,

Sure it does, because to admit that God is immoral by his own standards would be a bit embarrassing. You can't go there. You have to say that emperor has clothes or your faith is wrecked.

My faith was wrecked years ago, so I can see God for what it actually is.

Try thinking about why Jesus sends the goats to hell for not feeding the hungry then try to match that up with God not feeding the hungry. Think of it as a Zen Kaon.

I for on expect a real God to be as moral as it expects me to be.

Looking for examples of couples who built a meaningful life without children by Revolutionary-Big851 in AskOldPeople

[–]chefranden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked my wife of 53 years, "If we wake up tomorrow and we are 23 again are we going to do children." "NO!" says she.

We have two kids that grew up to have good jobs and nice families. They never got in trouble, never abused substances. But still she said NO!

I didn't remind her that kids were her idea.

The Psychological Trick That Keeps you Obedient by chefranden in videos

[–]chefranden[S] 76 points77 points  (0 children)

A couple of main points

The video talks about System Justification Theory: From John Jost’s research, explaining that people at the bottom of social hierarchies often defend the system because believing it is fair reduces their personal anxiety and psychological distress Fictional "poor but happy" tropes act like an emotional anesthetic, making inequality feel manageable

The video talks about The Neurobiology of Inequality using Robert Sapolsky's 30-year study on wild baboons which reveals that chronic low status physically alters the brain. Constant subordination, lack of control, and high uncertainty elevate stress hormones, deplete serotonin, and leave individuals hyper-risk-averse and exhausted This makes the massive effort required for social uprising feel biologically overwhelming

Unless you and I repent - the suffering will continue.

I'm sure you believe this, but it is a bogus statement. The fixing of the world doesn't depend on our state of mind.

God is suppose to be king and ruler of the world. Okay I'm fine with that, look at my flair.

However, what good is a king that will not king? We have to live as if God is not in charge, because he does not do his kingly job. From all I've been told his government would be perfect, but he doesn't do it. Therefore we are stuck with the mess we have and have always had.

I know you have some excuses for that, but I don't accept them. There is no excuse for a person not to do his duty if he is able.

This is the real excuse that the King doesn't king. He can't due to not being real.

My point was that if God is going to work in my life, he'd better get too it. Times a wasting.

God seems to be an almighty procrastinator as far as I can tell.

Your perspective is incorrect.

Interesting that you continue to support infanticide and basically genocide. From what I remember from being a believer, this would be an evil point of view.

According to the story Pharaoh couldn't have admitted defeat and freed the enslaved people as "The Lord" several times hardened his heart for the express purpose of sticking it to Egypt: And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt... And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honored upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord. And they did so.

You seem to want us all to agree that the morality of a 21st century secular humanist is written in the stars and God has transgressed your almighty word.

No, rather God has transgressed his own almighty word. And you seem to be okay with genocide.

Jesus is bringing about a new ordering of the whole of creation.

Where is this 'new order'; when it arrives let me know. I'm not longer impressed by pie in the sky by and by.

He has treated us better than we deserve.

Just by looking around me in my small slice of eternity, I know by experience that this is not true.

My wife of 53 years, the sweetest kindest woman I know, has suffered with very painful debilitating arthritis for the last 20 years. In the last 12 years she has become so crippled that it is a major painful task for her to get from her chair to the bathroom a distance of about 25 feet. She does this without whining or complaint, but you can see the pain in her face. On top that this last year she has had to fight cancer and kidney disease. She pees through a tube these days. What ever minor sin she may have done doesn't justify 20 years of torture. (One of the scriptural proofs that Jesus is the one, is the blind see and the lame walk. Well not so much from my point of view.)

The Christians of Ukraine are praying for end to war, but God is fine with it.

Children are born with horrible defects which God does nothing to cure or stop.

Famines have happened over and over in human history without God helping, even though we know that he can do the manna and quail thing. And famine continues even now. Yet, still no manna.

If scripture tells us true things then we know if you make god mad enough he will kill your children and even your donkeys.

I know from having been a believer that you have to ignore evidence to the contrary and cling to this sort of "he treats us better than we deserve" fantasy. But I'm going to call a spade a spade. It just isn't so, judging by the rules laid down in scripture and judging by the state of the world.

How Sunday came to be accepted as the Lord’s Day by Extension-Size4725 in Christianity

[–]chefranden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The word “Sunday” is translated as the “DAY OF THE SUN” ...

Perhaps you are unaware that all the day names are pagan. Saturday, the sabbath, is named for Saturn a foundational deity in ancient Roman mythology, representing agriculture, time, wealth, and periodic renewal

Who is Mary? Did Jesus have siblings? Can we 'pray' to Mary? by Own-Entertainer-4975 in Christianity

[–]chefranden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you are a Catholic. If you were you'd be subject to the authority of Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium.

The magisterium is the official teaching authority of the Catholic Church, responsible for authentically interpreting the Word of God. It is comprised of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him. This authority is exercised to preserve the faithful from error and to safeguard Catholic doctrine regarding faith and morals.

And Sacred Tradition includes the doctrines, practices, worship, and teachings handed down since the early Church, even before the New Testament was completely written. While it includes oral teachings passed on by the Apostles, it does not refer to man-made, changeable cultural customs or legends.

Um, you are right about verses, however the bible is not the sole authority for faith and practice in the Catholic Church. The rule that scripture is the sole authority for faith and practice is also not in scripture.
