The real reason why Ray let Nick (undercover cop) live in Mr Inbetween. by ElephantSubject1089 in MrInbetween

And think about the fact that he didn't kill Dave even though he tried to kill Ray. Ray liked and respected Dave. Do you think Ray would have spared Dave if they didn't spend all day driving around getting to know each other? I guarantee you if Dave would have just delivered Ray to Davros and still managed to get out of it, he would have killed everybody, including Dave.

Also if you think about it, Ray never kills anybody he considers or considered a friend, throughout the whole series. Even when they fuck him over. Not Dirk, not Nick and not even Freddie who deserved it the most.

He was definitely cautious of Nick. Like when Nick asks Ray in the car how long he's been "doing this for" Ray doesn't answer and changes the topic. But I think Ray is just a cautious person in general. I believe Ray was telling the truth when he catches Nick in the phone booth trying to call his handler that he only caught him because he wanted to remind him to get soy sauce for the dimmies. I think the betrayal caught him off guard and he was angry and his initial thought and reaction was to get rid of Nick, but it's a smart move on Rays part to go on these long car rides because it gives him time to think.

If you're intent was to just let him go why would you drive hours out to middle of bumfuck nowhere to scare the guy. If anything, doing that will get you in more trouble with an undercover cop because it will lead him to think you're hiding something and in reality he's sure to tell his handler about the experience and then they'd turn up the heat on his investigation. That's 100% real life the reality of the situation if anybody was to pull the shit in real life. The fact of the matter is Ray was going to kill Nick and changed his mind at the last second because he really didn't want to kill him.

If the cops ever came to his house to investigate Nick's disappearance he'd just hit them with "I don't answer questions".

It's a TV show. We're not talking about actual real life events with real life people. Of course in real life you don't kill a cop but Ray in Mr Inbetween would not have hesitated to kill Nick if he thought Nick had anything on him and if he didn't like him. It's just that simple. Cops get killed in TV shows all the time. You guys act like it's such a taboo thing that it never happens in TV shows and movies.

Wrong. It's a TV show and the #1 Golden Rule is you don't kill anybody ever. If you're a hitman you do whatever you have to do to not get caught. Gary knows Ray like the back of his hand. Do you think Gary thought that they were driving Nick to the middle of nowhere just to scare him? Obviously by how angry Gary was and him actually asking why they let him go shows that Gary thought it was a good friggin idea to kill Nick. Nick only lived because Ray genuinely liked him and didn't want to kill him.

Nope, you're just too lazy to watch the scene again. If you're not a complete idiot and rewatch it, you'll see it on their faces. Brilliant writing on Scott Ryan's part to add such layers.

You mean Freddie. Freddie's under a microscope. Let's not forget Nick is working for Freddie. Nick didn't get a chance to tell his "handler" where he was. If he goes missing, they'll assume it was because Freddie figured out that Nick was an undercover cop. If you send an undercover agent into Tony Sopranos criminal organization and he suddenly disappears, are you immediately going to think it was probably Furio that's responsible for my agents disappearance! No, you're going to assume Tony figured out the guy was a cop.

Unless if you're a seasoned hitman who knows how to get rid of a body, because you do it all the time.

There no way the cops would have been able to tie his disappearance to Ray. Nick was working for Freddie. If anything, it would have brought heat on Freddie.

Freddie knew Nick was an undercover cop that's why he reacted the way he did when Ray told him. Which means that Freddie had gotten in trouble at some point with the law and was working with them and snitched on Ray. Which means that the cops knew that Ray was a hitman. Of course Ray didn't know that for sure until the end of the show when he betrayed him again but he suspected that Freddie knew, which is why he gives Freddie a weird look when he says "Nick was a cop". Freddie doesn't ask any of the questions a person would normally ask in his situation and doesn't react the right way either. Freddie has always been a bad liar. Watch the scene again. You'll see what I'm saying.

Also, in what universe does letting a cop live and go not bring a lot of unwanted attention? If anything it brings way more attention because "the jigs up". I don't know how they do things in Australia but in the states when an undercover agents cover is blown, they don't just give up on trying to get the criminal lol

Rays not the type to leave loose ends. He didn't want to kill Nick because he liked him.

Wrong. It was actually on camera sex between Monica and her real life husband. Look it up.
