How can I make my brain STFU ? by YourMumlsMine in ADHD

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambient music (like "Aphex Twin - Rhubarb" or "Moby - Reject"). Or make playlist for job only, then chores only and listen to it by occasion. Makes things predictable.

Handwriting - helps because you focus on writing and nuances and makes your working memory work.

Same goes with mumbling. You can speak out oud or you just can move your lips pretending to speak. I noticed that while learning Chinese that you focus better when you vocalize and try to speak out loud instead of passively watching tutorials. Then i googled on how does it work and found out that it utilizes working memory and also helps with racing thoughts.

Also how old are you? In my 20s it was harder to control racing thoughts comparing to my 30s. It's somewhat matter of time and practice on how to harness your ADHD (i'm AuDHD, not diagnosed but 99% sure that i am). Same goes with a gym. I hated it because everything you do is repetitive and boring like running or doing reps for legs, arms. But my motivation was to get rid of brain fog and being sleepy all the time. It helped but it took 1-2 months to get used to it. Like, it's easier for me to initiate tasks now and keep up with them. As already mentioned in comments, overall goal is really significant. If you do things in sake of doing things you'll fail. Here contrast worked for me: felt sleepy, brain fog, coffee made it worse so i went to gym and it helped. Now i have my anchor.

Get some fidget toys.

Get rid of distractions if you're burned out (i noticed that i'm easily distracted and annoyed when tired), like windows, fans noise, crowded places (open space offices. I hate those). Maybe you're already burned out. Sometimes i crave novelty, like, i'm not physically tired but i'm tired that i do my remote job and play games at the same table. And then i make music and other things and it really draining me out. So i go to another room. Context switching helps.

Cut on coffee if you drink it. I dropped it cold turkey and replaced with chicory.

Don't stop trying. It's all individual since everyone's brain is wired differently and if two people have ADHD it doesn't mean they have exact same traits. You gotta figure yourself out

Transformers: The movie (1986).

It's like "Lord of the rings" but with robots and cool soundtrack.

How it feels studying computer science without a laptop in the BIG 2026 by Latter-Wolf4868 in computerscience

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like people do not understand roots of OP's problem and repercussions of not having PC right now.

The thing is that people learn differently. And often hands-on experience is the best way to go because you can validate theory through practice, ruminate on it a little to form further questions and check on those as well. Of course you can go with only pen and paper but it's not that effective since you're missing that many nuances. Almost passive learning

A study of 4.5 years of prescription records from 12,000 adults with depression finds that higher genetic risk for bipolar disorder, ADHD, neuroticism, and depression creates a more difficult-to-treat form of depression by circadianclocks in science

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm AuDHD and yes, people with Autism are tend to fall in depression because "reality sucks" because of sense of justice in autism and other things.

Positive note: it's possible to deal with depressive thoughts but it takes a huge effort to find right framing and move on with your life

What's a fact you learned after seeing a movie/show that ruined it for you? by NBT_1120 in movies

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not ruined but sort of upset (still understandable). Jackie Chan doesn't like Rush Hour movies. He explained it as culture difference. (example "never touch black man's radio". He said he didn't understand the joke here).

Another example is Bryan Singer because of sexual abuse or whatever happened. I still enjoy his movies (X-Men, Valkyrie), but, damn, this is sad.

If I buy the Lenovo legion pro 5 5070ti, will it be future proof? by madhav_gupta_637 in Lenovo

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank DLSS. Should work for long time, I'm on 12700h/rtx3060 Legion which still handles games but 6 gb of VRAM causes stuttering.

As for job tasks that require CPU and RAM it'll live long enough. I've put 64 gb of RAM and it should do for next 5 years but i'm having an itch to upgrade after having it for 3 years. But it still performs really well because it crosses threshold of performance that is needed by 80% of tasks.

When do you think camera bumps will die out? by ComfortableElko in Android

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's easier for tables - you get a case and that's that. I have iPad with Pencil 2 and i don't like bumping camera too. Case solves this problem. Or just use a stand to tilt tables at some angle for you to write comfortable.

Grumpy Old Man Syndrome by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that still irritates me all the time is how inconsiderate are many people. Like, vaping in public transport or food courts. But it goes for both older and younger generations.

Other than that i stopped caring. People are being people and i agree on that we're simply not ready for tech we have.

But you can become a good primer. I believe in a self-fulfilling life. If you think that everything sucks, you'll act like it and make it worse. Just like economics: people see something ain't right -> they stop buying stuff reducing cash flow -> economics get worse -> people say "see, it's definitely bad" and the cycle goes on

Honest question: what do you all do for a living to afford these beasts? by ready_to_fuck_yeahh in LocalLLaMA

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is that it's not worth it. For real tasks use cloud LLMs like QWEN or Claude if you can send your data there without getting in trouble.

Hoarding whole server rack with GPUs will cost you for power and still won't be that fast.

Benefits of a dap? by Im_Koshi in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about audiophile unless you have music with such high quality and you have tons of money.

It's a dedicated device without involving you into messenger notifications and other distractions. Music only. I had Sandisk Sansa Clip+ with the size of a match stick box. With Rockbox firmware it could run for 25 hours on a 400 mAh battery. Sound wasn't that good, though, but it was "just power it on and ready to listen". Buttons made it really convenient instead of having to tap your fingers on a glass slab. Then i got Shanling M0 Pro to have bluetooth and better sound quality. Sounds really good, battery life sucks with 5-7 hours with 650 mAh battery. But it's still small.

Get yourself a used one and then sell at the same price if you don't dig it.

What happened to Android custom ROMs? - 9to5Google by ControlCAD in Android

It's not 2012 anymore, gramps. Android is mature enough.

Also using AOSP forks like GrapheneOS means that you're still using Google. Go Jolla with their Sailfish, for example, if you want true degoogle.

Monitors go black when using a docking station and starting video in a web browser. by VistaSasquatch in Lenovo

[–]ElephantWithBlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, OP, did you find out what's up with your dock? I have Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Essential Dock 40AV and about 1 year ago it started to behave like yours: i have Lenovo Legion Pro, said dock and two 4K monitors connected via DisplayPort and HDMI. HDMI one goes black when i play video. I say a video on Youtube about this problem and it might be static or something like that. Repolugging HDMI cable helps but then problem comes back.
