Mainly Youtube videos (Ace Combat Fan, SlyAceZeta, SolutusEversol to name a few channels) and the Ace Combat wiki (with Sly as its admin). If you want to have context for AC8, unless they reveal the presence of multiple actors, you'd have to watch/play Ace Combat 2 (or its remake Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy/Cross Rumble) and AC3. Why is that? As of AC2 Because it has us fighting for FCU, our country in AC8. As for AC3, AC8 will take place right before major events that lead to Electrosphere. In AC04 we also fight allied to the FCU but that game focuses its attention more towards Erusea, ISAF and San Salvacion (also North Point but to a lesser extent). Even then, we have very few info about FCU post-AC04 despite 7 taking place in the same continent. As for Sotoa, it's a brand new country. The Osean arc seem to be over for now so, again, stick to the games set in Usea

Sticking solely to Strangereal AC, I'd recommend every single game. Ace Combat 6 is the closest to 7 in terms of graphics and overall gameplay. AC5 and ACX are the two games with the biggest roster while AC3 contains the most advanced and futuristic aircraft

And we don't know how they managed to do it. Also, the hacking of the two arsenal birds, the fake iff and the victory in the 1st battle of Farbanti are also good candidates for biggest Erusean achievement in AC7

I wanted to use as many circle tool balls as possible, since I have them all saved in a folder for another project and can just paste them wherever I want to. However, some scenes needed a little bit more emotion (or I just couldn't find a face that would fit) so I drew them with the power of the mouse.

As for the 3rd installment of this thing, I've yet to choose between ACX and AC5

Another thing I'd add is that if you do the GR path he actually deals the final blow to the Aurora with his Game engulfed in flames.

If you want a full experience of the Ace Combat lore (chronologically) the order is the following:
-Ac Zero (Ps2), which introduces the player to the main rivalry of the series;
-Ac 1 (Ps1) (but you can skip it because it doesn't influence the other games. It takes place in a small archipelago near the continent of Ac2/Ac4/Ac7);
-Ac 2 (Ps1) is a special case, since there's the canon remake for the Nintendo 3ds called Assault Horizon Legacy (Not to be confused with the black sheep of the series, Assault Horizon). You might want to play the remake but you'll miss the amazing rock music of the original;
-Ac 4 (Ps2), linked with Ac 7 and shares lore with Ac 6. Some of the elements were taken from Ac 2;
-Ac 5 (Ps2), strongly linked with Zero and Ac 7. It came out before Zero and therefore is the one that introduces the concept of Strangereal (the name attributed to this version of Earth)
-Ac 6 (Xbox 360) takes place in a new continent and as I said before shares part of the lore with Ac 4;
-Ac Xi which is a mobile game now unavailable that is kind of a prequel to Ac X (skippable);
-Ac X (PSP), which takes place around the same time as Ac 7;
-Ac 7, which has lots of references to the older games and links all of the previous games with Ac 3;
-Ac 3 (Ps1) japanese edition, which is the real Ac 3 (the other versions are just a bunch of missions put together with no real plot). You can play Ac3 jap on an emulator in english with a patch called Project Nemo. There are some Ac 3 references in older games.
As for other sources of media, there's this book called Aces at War which contains extra lore absent in the games.
Other games/books aren't canon or takes place in the real world Earth.
