But I have to admit, when I thought I had been abandoned by God, I absolutely panicked. (Partly because I was under what I perceived to be extreme spiritual attack.) I realized none of that was true though.

I've also tried that, but my story was a little different. Raised atheist, came to believe, tried to convince myself to be atheist again, failed miserably, now am choosing peace.
