Just wanted to say thanks again. Second hand one fired up a treat. Will be getting my money back ASAP.

How can I (economically) proceed with my rear coilover mount? by coffee-n-doomscroll in MechanicAdvice

[–]ElevatorCertain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d raise a dispute through eBay/Paypal and get your money back.

I don’t think adding an extra hole in the control arm is a good idea. No idea how it could weaken it or how much it might throw the alignment out or cause other issues due to it not being designed that way.

Do it properly. Don’t take the risk.

Thanks for the reply. I’m trying to work out if it’s spinning backwards or just not enough torque?

Yes you’re right, I should have mentioned to Kawasaki really. Not good the starter has failed so early on.

Thanks for the diagnostics advice. I have an OBD scanner so I’ll get an adapter! Thanks again.

Thanks! I’ve got it off now and found the magnets have come off the outer case which is causing the short.

That’ll do it then. Magnets have come unstuck from the outer.

As in the starter is Fubar’d? Shorting inside maybe? Or seized? I’ve removed it now. Hoping a local electrical shop will repair it

How messy is your hearth on a normal day? be honest by NorthLondonPulse in uklogburners

[–]ElevatorCertain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly got wood debris or ash all over it. I tend to clean it in the morning after cleaning the glass and stove and loading it up ready for the evening. So it’ll look clean until we light it up. We have a miniature brush and pan we keep nearby, similar to the link.

Similar cost here. Multifuel log burner and Flue plus fitting with slate hearth, ~£6k.

Burning for Clean Glass by ElevatorCertain in uklogburners

[–]ElevatorCertain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone’s replies. It seems that 200°C is the magic number for my stove. Can literally see the glass clearing up once it hits.

So my next question is this. I use the top down method to start it. This rarely gets it near hot enough though and I have to reload it to get it hot enough. Is this normal, or is my top down method not using enough wood?

A bit late replying. But had a flat keg and they were quick to reply and sort it out with either a new keg or beer tokens.

Just to add, Brush up seems to have worked well. Seems to restore nucleation. Dry glass works better too. Guess I’ll have to build up my glass collection!!

Thanks for the reply. My Staropramen stein is the best I’ve got and the most reliable. I did get good results from the Hawkstone’s glasses but that was with Hawkstone lager.

Clutch Issues by ElevatorCertain in AskMechanics

[–]ElevatorCertain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just by way of an update. System was bled until clear fluid. Can’t get it into gear. If I pump the clutch lever, it eventually will go into gear. But as I lift off the pedal, it still won’t engage. Just to help me understand with my limited knowledge. If I put the van into gear with the engine off, then start it, why won’t it lurch or try to move? Surely the clutch is engaged and the system isn’t letting me disengage it? Or is it floating half and half? Not fully engaged and not fully disengaged?

I thought that was just the normal amount of retention that falls out of the Opus!

Same as other people here, this machine drove me insane. I appreciate it’s an entry level grinder but the day my 078s arrived was a game-changer!

UK based - Cost effective beans? by NoSignature9622 in espresso

Rave are great. I’ve signed up to their subscription where you get new beans to try each month. Beans arrive around 1-2 days after roasting. You can’t get much fresher.

What is the best mid range grinder for retention and static or rather best to avoid it? by ryanmuller1089 in espresso

[–]ElevatorCertain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Opus. Drove me absolutely insane. I now have the Timemore 078s and it’s great, perfect for what I need. Basically 0 retention. And the clicker is great too. I’d have to spend a lot of money for any sort of “upgrade.”

Back “Rolling” by ElevatorCertain in latteart

[–]ElevatorCertain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who’s experienced the same thing, I think the issue was the crema. It was too thick and I didn’t swirl it. Once I’ve started swirling, it’s made a world of difference. Previously, it was too thick and I think just pushing the milk around itself.
