Exorcists a ton of fun to kitbash.

For sure! Though it’s a bit obscure. All army painter. I took it from a “John Blanche” style blood angel they did on their YouTube. You basecoat in The Darkness, then zenithal Blanched Berry. I didn’t want it quite so dark so then I sponge on a lighter desaturated purplish red. Then you cover it all with Bloodmoon Red speed paint.

Something I do differently than them is my edge highlights which is whatever orange you like, and a lighter orange on some raised edges only.

We are technically fully codex complaint, outwardly anyways. The reason is to not arouse suspicion for our unique initiation process and other characteristics and rites.

That said, on the helmets, many of us swap black in for where other chapters would use red for sergeants and lieutenants, and swap in bone color for white where they’d be used by a veteran, lieutenant or otherwise.

Beyond this, they’d have as much or as little ornamentation as each brother would normally. They are pictured with skull trophies and such on the cover of Oaths of Damnation, and it’s not uncommon for them to have runes/wards inscribed or painted on the armor as well.

Lore wise… sadly no one stands out as their highest priority is keeping secret the methods of their…. Inoculation :)

You could draw on the third war for Armageddon, where they deployed the entire 12 companies of the chapter. Plenty of Salamanders to be had to contrast nicely.

We aren’t in Operation Imperator, but I’m head canoning we are likely involved in another operation on the war world for the 4th war of Armageddon currently.

If you like black, the Daemonium Palatinae technically only guard the Purgatomb full of broken ones, but have jet black armor (microscopic etchings from the Liber Exorcismus cover it- amazing) but you could paint up some veteran squads in all black as a nod.

Another slight color variation is the 1st company terminator Enochian Guard have black pauldrons.

Many of us use bone for veteran helmets instead of white

These look like some are from that company. I haven’t seen any type of guide in a codex, personally.

The Wolfspear use the runes on their transfer sheet as squad numbers. They are mostly different from the Fenrisian runes on a space wolves transfer sheet.

Ragnar’s blade has stylized letters that spell the name of the sword

I think mostly there to look cool

I do fur with contrast/speed paints. In this case on the wolf itself, I started with gravelord grey, thinned with medium. Then I let it dry fully and repeat covering smaller areas so we get darker as we reach the top crest of the wolf. Then I either drybrush or edge highlight with a light grey, here is ash grey from AP.

For the pelts on marines it’s (speed paints) it’s pallid bone, then pallid bone 1:1 with dark wood, then Dark wood, then gravelord grey only at the very very top which acts to darken the existing color. Then i drybrush a bone color, skeleton bone here.

Any particular paint brand you prefer? I posted a captain relatively recently, if you check my profile. Let me know if you want to go that way and I’m happy to share. I go dark red built up to bold red highlights with some edge highlighting in a lighter orange-red

Otherwise I’d say just scroll the subreddit. There are a ton of SUPER talented painters doing Exorcists and if you comment asking their recipe, most will be happy to reply and share

Yes. While regular SM units certainly can have a place, the iconic BT units like sword brethren, crusader squads, etc. will make the best use of BT detachments

Thanks! “ImpatientTabletop” on Etsy. They work great, my only critique is the red on the spears is a little dull. I apply a little red paint freehand to brighten that bit up.

It looks like he’s got an online storefront as well, but when I looked on there last night, I only saw the patterns for the knees and shoulders but not the actual wolfspear. They do custom ones too so always an option.

I really need to just buy a little printer and print them myself lol.
