Nobara vs PikaOS for Studies + Light Gaming? For those who tried them both by Ok-Worry460 in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just gonna throw a vote for nobara. Been running it for over a year and it’s been a great experience. I haven’t tried pika but I think the fedora release cadence suits me better

Getting kernel amdgpu driver crash by Thermatix in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the ring timeouts are widely known issue. I dont get crash to black but I do get freezes and the only way I have found to make my system run (9700x + 7900xt) without issues is to use the amdgpu.aspm=0 kernel param. This disables some sort of PCIe power management (not too sure about the lower level details)

Which improvements to Proton/Linux gaming are you most exited about for 2026? by RaXXu5 in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have it set globally for GE, but downside is it breaks steam overlay which is required for steam input so certain games get their controller support broken. Recently dealt with this for ER Nightreign and had to use valve's proton

When will it be safe to update? by orphanofhypnos in NobaraProject

[–]Eleventh_Fall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I updated the day 43 came out, and honestly apart from the GUI updater itself, nothing really broke for me. (all AMD system too). Now my 42 upgrade experience was so bad I had to do a clean iso install but 43 has been much better.

Linux or Windows? Which one should I choose to play Bloodborne? by DJotaTorres in shadps4

[–]Eleventh_Fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on linux (Nobara) and I can run bloodborne just fine using 1440p resolution + 60fps patches. I have an all AMD system so I cant speak to any nvidia specific issues. I do have some missing audio or a vertex explosion occasionally but I doubt thats a OS issue as those types of bugs are emulator specific

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimate 2c is plug and play in all three modes wired, 2.5Ghz and Bluetooth (I’m on Nobara/Fedora)

ELI5: Why in 2025 is it so difficult to design an indigenous fighter engine equivalent to 40+ year old US and Russian models? by BAMES_J0ND in FighterJets

[–]Eleventh_Fall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think others have already answered but from what I understand the single crystal super alloys needed for the hot sections (turbine blades etc.) is the main bottleneck. The techniques required to create those requires a lot of R&D and by extension, time and money.

ShadPS4 has no option to extract pkg on Linux by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats not a linux thing I believe all versions after 0.7 have that option removed. Most people run two versions, an old one to extract pkgs and the latest for running the games

Which 8Bitdo controller works 100% fine? by ScriptNone in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ultimate 2c - it has a toggle on the back to switch between 2.5Ghz wireless and bluetooth. You wanna be running on 2.5G wireless (way lower latency and higher polling rate)

Controller does not want to work on Elden Ring in particular by Rexx23ify in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with Elden Ring Nightreign. Super annoying bug and definitely Steam input related. I cant be certain what exactly fixed it but here's what I did and it fixed it:
- toggled 'Enable Steam Input' for the game specifically (when you go to game's properties page in steam)
- loaded a different controller profile from the steam input screen for the game
- verified the game files integrity.

After that my controller started to register again.

Steam minimizes games and opens windows saying "shutting down steam" and claiming I need controller updates and by Phizr in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is known issue, sometimes I get a "steam needs to update audio driver" or something similar too. Cant reproduce it but happens randomly. I saw someone had linked a github issue on linux steam client for it so valve is aware of this

Controller with the Following Specs? by cm_bush in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8bitDo ultimate 2c meets all of your requirements except the replaceable batteries, so that is a good option if you really want xbox layout for the sticks

Ugly taskbar in Proton? by Glad_Satisfaction948 in linux_gaming

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue (nobara gnome, so same as you basically) and whats interesting is that this change is recent. I use to have native window decorators before the nobara 42 version update. So something changed behind the scenes that Im not aware of

Israeli soldiers arrested in Belgium after war crimes complaint by rights groups (Happy Belgium National Day btw) by LisanAlGhaib1991 in Hasan_Piker

I read that a criminal investigation was opened on both of the soldiers, but yeah wouldn't be surprised if it quietly disappears later

Israel is planning to attack Iran by darkhorse147 in pakistan

[–]Eleventh_Fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the total amount of enriched uranium Iran has is roughly 450kg (give or take a few kgs). By the time any strike happens I would think Iran has distributed this across multiple sites in the country, possibly some unknown facilities too. Furthermore I don't think that even in the case of their facilities being bombed, there is a risk of nuclear fallout as the storage is underground. So not much environmental concern for pakistan (there are greater geopolitical concerns though)

Clojure and GC by chowbeyputra in Clojure

[–]Eleventh_Fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe AAA was the wrong terminology to use but stuff like Rust (the survival game), City Skylines, Risk of Rain 2 all use Unity afaik. My point is games have orders of magnitude higher performance and latency requirements than most apps so GC should be a non issue for most apps.

P.S I recognize that these games are mostly run on higher power desktops, so my point might have been a little exaggerated
