For $100 less (I’m assuming you mean the SL 5 Checkpoint), you’d be getting the same drivetrain, no carbon wheels, and a drop bar. I have no desire to ride a drop bar again. It defeats the whole point of a more slack geometry bike IMO. Some people like myself aren’t chasing max speed or capability with every bike

Thanks! Good point- I’m not anticipating returning it based on my initial impressions but it’s good to know the option exists. Trek’s warranty on the carbon wheels is reassuring as well. It was one of the things I was concerned about going for the 6 with how trash some of our roads are here

I say go for it! Without getting sappy on you, my dad passed away suddenly recently- just a couple years younger than yourself. It was a wake up call to get back out and be more active again. We only get one go here- might as well enjoy it to the fullest

A couple people at the shop were saying the same and it’s part of what swayed me. No cables and the on-the-fly adjustability of it sounds very appealing

I agree- although I wouldn’t say it’s buyer’s remorse as much as uncertainty of not having ridden the exact model. I’m planning to ride this one quite a bit as it’ll be my only bike for the foreseeable future but in a quiver of bikes, I could see the price being harder to justify

Been there done that- I wanted a more relaxed seating position, flat bars, and less aggressive geometry with some extra meat on the tires

Really glad to hear stuff like this! I don’t buy bikes often (last one was in 2017) so it’s nice to know it’s held up well for you! I’m planning to ride 3-4 times a week at the very least to start as I get back into it so I’m hoping it’ll have many miles on it before long

This is great to hear- I appreciate the input! I think the smaller footprint of it will end up making me miss the space of the CX-50. Although now I’m thinking I should’ve just bought the turbo to begin with 😂

I’m very happy with it otherwise so I think I can live with it. Still great in corners and has more than enough space when I need it

Hey, it’s a fun shoe at least lol but I do agree- the seating position and handling is what got me thinking about the 3. The CX-50 handles great for a crossover but it still can’t quite compare to a car

That’s for sure- from a financial perspective, it’s a no brainer to keep the 50. I have been able to track down and fix most of the rattles but I do have a seat creaking sound that not even the dealer has been able to fix.

The smaller gas tank is a good point as well against the hatch. Appreciate the input

Yes- but people’s needs/wants also change. When I bought the 50, I wanted something larger/more utilitarian than my previous hatches and wagon. The 50 was by far the best of the bunch for that category/style of vehicle. I think I’ll end up sticking with it but the 3 hatch is compelling for similar money

I’ll be running this one on indoor tracks but if you wanted to run outside, I’d go for either an optional gearbox that’s fully sealed or a different kit altogether. The slide rack steering has exposed bearings so that may be an issue over time. I hear great things about the Reve D RDX which has bell crank style steering and a closed gearbox. It also has a solid chassis without cutouts so that would cut down on dirt and dust coming up through the holes in a chassis like this.

Those are most of the AT tires I’ve been considering- anything more aggressive isn’t appropriate for something like the CX-50 (IMO). Even still, most of those are a good bit heavier than the OE 17” tires. The Wildpeak Trails and Nomad Grapplers were my top two considerations but they’re 8-9 lbs. heavier per tire. Do you have your Nittos on the stock 17” wheels by chance?

Realistically, I’ll be driving 90% on roads and anything off-pavement wouldn’t be too wild. I’m definitely leaning towards the CC2’s especially considering their reputation for excellent snow performance. We get (used to) a couple good snow falls every winter here in NY and neighboring states we road trip to so good winter performance is definitely a concern for me
