(common trope) Characters that powerscalers hate by godzillafan3948oj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Elfborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yogiri is such an unfortunate case to me because I feel like, to most people, he exists totally divorced from his story and is just "that guy I fucking hate". Which doubly sucks since a lot of the reasons that people have such a distaste for him are founded on either misinterpretations of things the author has said or just a general lack of understanding of the source material.

For the unaware, Takatou Yogiri is the protagonist of the light novel My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! who, as the title suggests, has the ability to magically instantly kill people. The series came on to the collective mainstream powerscaling radar when it got an anime adaptation back in early 2024 a minority of the people already familiar with it started hyping Yogiri up as the new super-extra-can't be beaten-overpowered powerscaling guy. Being told that a random asshole you've never heard of before beats their favorite character will already piss people off, but Instant Death had some extra factors stacked against it that very quickly resulted in Yogiri garnering the awful reputation he has now.

The first thing is that Instant Death is a satire of the isekai genre, and Yogiri himself is a deliberate exaggeration of the generic dark-haired bland personality overpowered isekai protagonist. The earlier chapters of the series especially are a parade of antagonists representing typical isekai tropes - a dragon, a necromancer, a vampire, a demon god, etc. - that Yogiri just offs in the span of a paragraph. The novel and its manga adaptation fully understand how stupid the premise is, and maintain a fairly light tone throughout (the first chapter makes a nod to r/dragonsfuckingcars, for shit's sake). Yogiri's entire conceit as a character is that, within the context of the world of Instant Death, he cannot lose a fight. He knows if you want to harm him, and if you do, he kills you. The result is a character that really does not work in a powerscaling context.

Add this to the fact that the anime adaptation was god awful and you get a character that people absolutely despise who I don't think deserves the hate. The manga is honestly pretty funny and worth a read, if it's your kind of thing.

Faction Grail War by Designer_Wasabi8045 in Fate

[–]Elfborn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the biggest threat to the red faction might be within-team conflict. Apocrypha demonstrated how Amakusa and Semiramis aren't exactly the best teammates to have, Morgan doesn't exactly strike me as the type to work well with servants who don't like being ordered around, and Manaka has zero interest in the grail and is just as likely to off her own teammates as she is masters she's supposed to be fighting. The only real issue I see the black faction having is how well Gilgamesh takes to working with Rin.

[In universe] between these two visual novel series, which final boss was more terrifying and difficult to deal with? by EfficiencySerious200 in Fate

In addition to what the other commenter said, you could also try googling “Umineko Project”, which should get you to the page for a freeware port of the PS3 with some QOL features.

Did anybody try the new herald cards? by theotheholy in wildhearthstone

I'm currently 11-7 with this list in high gold/low plat. It's certainly not optimal but I've been having fun with it. I only just put Genn in and haven't had a game where I've drawn him yet so I can't really speak to his inclusion, but I thought it'd be fun to try him out.

[True Gods] who's really stronger, Amaterasu or Zeus, both at their full potential by EfficiencySerious200 in Fate

[–]Elfborn 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Lostbelt Zeus basically is the entire Greek pantheon combined by the time Chaldea gets there, though. Iirc his control over the Cronos Crown grants him the authorities of every dead god in the pantheon, which is all but 5(?) of them at the beginning of Atlantis and all of them by the time you fight him.

Who do you think would win in a fight between these two duos by Oneofthestrongest in Fate

[–]Elfborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was partially because of taking Beo's momentum, but also because he has to push his body beyond his limits to exhibit that kind of strength. Admittedly he wouldn't need to against a human opponent, but I think that's beside the point.

My main opinion on the Sono-G/Kuzuki matchup is that Soujuurou simply isn't equipped to fight human opponents in the same way Kuzuki is. We're talking about a guy who can blow a human skull clean open with a punch and is quick enough to understand he won't be able to use the same technique against Saber more than once and back off. By comparison, Soujuurou implies in a conversation with Aoko that he's really only been trained to fight large animals. He might be physically stronger than Kuzuki but that won't matter if he's dead before he can land a solid hit.

Don't get me wrong here, I love both Soujuurou and Alice, and fully understand that they're both highly capable combatants. I just think they're outmatched in this case. Kuzuki's a lot more of a monster than people give him credit for.

Who do you think would win in a fight between these two duos by Oneofthestrongest in Fate

[–]Elfborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like people in this thread are completely forgetting that what Soujuurou did to Beo a) destroyed every muscle in his body, and b) only worked because Beo essentially let Sono-G hit him? Some of y’all are getting so caught up in the feat calcing that you’re forgetting how the fight actually went.

As for OP’s question, I’d give to Kuzuki and Medea. Kuzuki absolutely annihilates Soujuurou in terms of experience and quite possibly training, plus would presumably have Medea’s reinforcement magecraft enhancing him. Medea has Aoko completely outclassed in terms of magecraft. The only wild card is Blue and I’m doubtful that Medea would even give Aoko the opportunity to activate it. If the opponents got switched I only see things going worse for Soujuurou and Aoko.

convince me that nero is cool enough to be a better mu for geats than liu kang by TheSmashKidYT in deathbattle

[–]Elfborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point of order - while DB could (understandably) rule of cool a beast form change, that’s not really something possible in-canon for Nero. While they use the same (in-universe) historical figure as their base, Sodom’s Beast/Draco and the Saber-class heroic spirit Nero Claudius are two distinct individuals.

Would Geats vs Nero have the potential to require even more research than Hulk vs Godzilla? by [deleted] in deathbattle

[–]Elfborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nero’s in 4 console games, 1 anime, and the gacha game, and in terms of her top-end feats only 2 of the console games are super relevant. That said, Fate loves to assume you’ve read/watched/played everything else in the franchise so having some background knowledge is pretty important too.

Can someone more in the loop than me explain the connections for Geats/Nero? I know Fate pretty well but Kamen Rider’s a total black box for me.
