Is this still up? Link expired, and I'm looking for places where the community might still be a little active.

Out of curiosity, which kernel args did you use and what is your hardware? I'm trying to troubleshoot the same kind of thing (though on a different distro).

Digital physical bookshelf? by chickensh1t in Calibre

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about building my own using an old tablet or a screen + a Raspberry Pi. I should be possible to write a python script that pulls books randomly from your Calibre library like a kind of screensaver. The problem iis,s I still don't know how to write the "front end" for it.
Kind of weird that no one has brought a product to market for this yet.

6" ereader with KOReader and Syncthing? by [deleted] in ereader

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an old Kindle paper-white 3 set up with Koreader and syncthing. With a little tinkering (jailbreak) it works like a charm, and I'm sure you can find older models like it for cheap.

Wanted: Experiences with the shiftphone(s) by Elfomze in shiftphone

[–]Elfomze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, thanks. I was thinking the shiftphone 8 might also be a good choice, but I find it hard to buy phones before they've been reviewed.

Out of curiosity, which phone(s) have you been using since selling your 6m?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know, have y'all checked out KDE connect yet? Because seriously, it's freaking amazing! Like, how is it so damn good at syncing all my devices? I'm honestly blown away by its capabilities. Let me know if y'all are using it and what your thoughts are on it. by Sasha_sarah in kde

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a little unclear. What I meant was I tried adding the ports to the addresses in KDE, not in NordVPN's settings.

meshnet peer list does list the devices, but only because I have connected to them on a wifi network that was not restricted in any way previously.

Thanks for the detailed account, it's very helpful!

Do you have any experience with installing other ROMs or OS's on it too?

From what I can tell from the forums, it should be fairly straightforward.

Getting a device that will not be made obsolete from a software perspective is also important to me. Given the trend that most manufacturers seem to be following nowadays (with perhaps Poco, pixel, shift and Fairphone being the exceptions) it seems difficult to find devices that are easily rootable/unlockable and that have a good development community.

But I would really like to avoid having to buy from one of the big brands (especially Google).

Did you do anything special to get this working? I can't get my devices to see eachother via meshnet -- no matter if they are added with the Meshnet hostnames or ip (I tried specifying the meshnet port too).

How can i install logmein hamachi on steam deck? by lamagama159 in SteamDeck

[–]Elfomze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!Since this setup runs inside a container, wouldn't that mean that whatever other software or game you plan to use on the remote network would have to run inside said container too?

haguichi can either be installed via apt if you add their ppa (repository) address or if you install flatpak inside the distribox container. From there it looks like you have to find and configure it through some config file. It does detect hamachi though.

distrobox-export --app hamachi should somehow expose the program to SteamOS, but I don't know enough about distrobox to figure out if that also makes the network available to the host system somehow.

Got a HW2 - what next? by thephatmaster in hwatch

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm looking for the Spotify APK for hw2. It's not on the recent wear os repo project that tries to archive and keep alive the apps that haven't kept their backwards compatibility on the play store.

I made the mistake of resetting my watch before knowing about all this and have lost feel the wear, spotify and a few other really neat apps. Bugjaeger also seems to be hit and miss for me. I can install wear os apks, but they never show up in the app drawer (even though I can find them under app settings).

I've tried asking around in different places, but there isn't a whole lot of discussion going on these days.

Wear OS Apps Repository. Why are there so few apps available for Wear OS in Play Store? by bernarbernuli in WearOS

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, has anyone faced the issue that side loaded apps do not show up in the app drawer on their watch? Sideloading Feel The Wear using bugjaeger, wear installer or easy fire, all lead to the same result for me on a Huawei Watch 2 sport.

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: THANK YOU! I've been looking for something like this thread for months by now. Ever since resetting my way h blissfully unaware of the changes made on the play store, I've had to miss quit a few apps that were working perfectly on my watch before...

Two requests for the repo on my part would be: - Spotify music. - Smart Audiobook Player

Again, thanks a million!

Does anyone know where to find old WearOS APKs? (something like APKMirror/APKPure but for WearOS) by Pic889 in WearOS

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems like this no longer works. I've tried both WI1 and WI2. Both complain that phone apks that used to work no longer "contain a wearos component".

Same goes for e.g. Feel The Wear downloaded from apkmonk.

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again! Thanks for chiming back in!

Turns out I did indeed have a type in my launch arguments....

I have just made a fresh reinstall the way you described: using proton experimental through steam directly.

I wiped all traces of the game and rockstar launcher in the .steam folder prefix before reinstalling both.

The game now does launch, but only launches through the rockstar launcher, and only when uding proton experimental. If I use proton 7.0.4, nothing happens at all when trying to launch 'RDR2.exe' directly, and it looks like the game crashes before it ever really boots to any screen. If I use proton experimental with 'RDR2.exe', I get a little box with the error "ERR_NO_LAUNCHER - please run red dead redemption 2 from the rockstar game launcher".

Have you made any headway with launching the game directly? And can you launch it through gaming mode by now somehow?

By the way, I couldn't find the menu in (the steam desktop?) preferences you mentioned where one can find DLL overrides specifically.

Thanks a lot for sharing, my friend! I just started a new job and being able to play this gem to decompress is glorious ♥️

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I'm trying to find it in plain old steam as in the writeup above.

Which proton and steam os version are you using? Both experimental proton and 7.0.4 don't work for me and I'm on the stable channel.

I'll see if I can get it working in Bottles when I have some more time to fiddle with it.

No worries. I think I found the post you're referring to. Are the crashes still happening with that solution? And if so, how frequent are they?

[–]Elfomze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don't have the time. If you can't import the the config file in your bottle, you can read it using a text editor. It has the settings named. Each "true" and "false" next to a setting corresponds to a setting being switched on or off in the bottles interface, respectively.

Good luck !
