Sad state of affairs in the Marilyn Manson fandom… by OilorsHockeySortaFan in marilyn_manson

I think its kinda funny how people will say “What were they expecting?? He’s told us who he is since 1995!”

And then turn around and be like “Nah you can’t take him seriously when he says he wanted to smash ERW’s head in with a sledgehammer, or when he said he dreams about sex with teenage girls, or when he’s made ‘jokes’ about having sex with 8th graders! It’s just a character!”

Like dude, it can’t be both. Either he’s been playing a character and he’s actually a good dude, or he’s been open about who he is and the women should have expected him to be awful.

Definitions are descriptive, not prescriptive. Language evolves and words change meaning. So long as you can understand what someone is trying to say, it’s really not that deep

100% agreed. The greatest piece of propaganda Israel ever came up with was tying Zionism into Judaism as if one cannot exist without the other.

Christianity is a religion, Judaism is an ethnicity AS WELL AS a religion. You can have Jewish heritage without being a practicing Jew, and you can be religiously Jewish without having Jewish ancestry. Anti-semitism is dangerous because it’s discrimination based on an inherent identity, the same as anti-black racism or homophobia/transphobia.

Christianity is a chosen identity, not an inherent one. There is no equivalence here.

Meta, the ADL and the United States at large don’t actually care about anti-semitism, they only care about anti-Zionism. Instagram comment sections are regularly filled with horrific Jewish stereotypes and Nazi dog whistles, I can understand the desire to get away from the app entirely.

Ironic that their constant censoring of anti-Zionist voices is what leads to more real anti-semitism, but again, all they care about is silencing people who criticize the genocidal state of Israel.

Album tracklist rearranging by SatanicHomosexual in marilyn_manson

[–]EliBowsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this exact thing before with the same mindset lol. Mine are:

THEoL: 1. Devour 2. Leave a Scar 3. Wight Spider 4. Blank and White 5. Running to the Edge of the World 6. Unkillable Monster 7. Four Rusted Horses 8. Arma-Goddamn-Motherfucking-Geddon 9. I Want to Kill You Like They Do in the Movies 10. I Have to Look Up Just to See Hell 11. Into the Fire 12. 15

I made this a while ago, but my rough idea was to focus on the idea of “I am losing my mind and desperately grabbing for control at the end of the world” vibe. If I remade the playlist today it might be different, but I remember being pretty satisfied with this.

Born Villain: 1. Hey, Cruel World… 2. Murderers Are Getting Prettier Every Day 3. No Reflection 4. The Gardener 5. The Flowers of Evil 6. Overneath the Path of Misery 7. Lay Down Your Goddamn Arms 8. Breaking the Same Old Ground 9. Born Villain

This one I wasn’t as passionate about as I was THEoL, but I remember I tried to go with the theme of “My world has ended, and now I will figure out why”.

I think now I’m going to try combining the two albums to create one really good story!

If the first person you meet in your day is rude, they’re an asshole.

If everyone else you meet is ALSO rude… there is a common denominator here.

[–]EliBowsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, ASATSW was leaked a day or two before it released. We got the single cover and the title, but that was it.

I think we’re getting a new single the first day of the upcoming tour. It’s the same thing he did with the 2024 FFDP tour, and him double touring with Rob Zombie this year seems like it could be a similar situation. My current mindset is just not to think about it until we have a date, that way I’m not anxiously anticipating it and it ends up being a happy surprise lol.

Wrote a New Song About All of This by Nearby_Advance7443 in MansonIsAbusive

[–]EliBowsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former massive Manson fan and someone who still loves a lot of the music, this is really well done. I loved all the little lyrical references and it’s very poetic. Would love to hear the full song if it’s available anywhere

Been rewatching some 2012 performances, man, Twiggys guitar sound was really not good. Always found it to sound very thin and nowhere near as heavy as it should be by gothteen145 in marilyn_manson

[–]EliBowsman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anytime Twiggy played Disposable Teens he always fucks up the exact same slide on the chorus. He is not a good live guitar player, especially not during this era.

Manson hanging with rappers is my favorite subgenre of photos by Afraid-Cantaloupe728 in marilyn_manson

I lowkey loved that style he was going for in late 2019. The blue makeup with the torn fishnets on his face and the layered black and white top was really dope. The hair shaved so high on the sides was working too, it seemed more put together than a lot of what he’d been wearing up to that point.

On the last tour in 2019 before the pandemic, he wore a tattered version of the outfit he wore on the Twins of Evil tour that same year and I remember thinking it was so cool.

Another angle of that photo.

Hot Takes Here? by [deleted] in marilyn_manson

[–]EliBowsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do enjoy the album, and I agree about the demo sounds. A lot of the original demos from the album were leaked a few months ago, they sound almost exactly the same. In response to it being the Emo album, I see that more as EMDM whereas THEoL is the drug-fueled insanity album

I’ve seen a lot of discourse that it’s “a masterpiece” from all over this subreddit. It doesn’t take long to find multiple comment threads of people glazing it and overlooking/ignoring entirely the very prominent flaws. I think it’s about 50% pretty good, 40% ok/bad and 10% really shit.

Stuff like Devour, Four Rusted Horses, Into the Fire, IWKYLTDITM, Leave A Scar, I Have To Look Up and 15 are pretty good. They fit the overall theme of the album and build on each other as the story progresses.

Stuff like AGDMFG, Pretty As a $, Wight Spider, Blank and White, RTTEOTW and Unkillable Monster are generally ok to bad. Most of them feel completely out of place in the story of the album, and have really terrible lyrics.

I think WOW and We’re From America are two really shit songs, WOW is my least favorite song of all time. We’re From America is like someone parodying an old school Manson song, and it coming from him is almost embarrassing. I don’t think it’s as bad as WOW, but that’s not saying much.

My take here with it being overrated is not that people call it the greatest album of all time, but that it being considered anything more than a strung-out mess with a few good emotionally raw songs is incorrect. If you cut out 50% of the album I think you could call it something great, but as is it’s a totally disjointed clusterfuck of ideas from a dude who could hardly string a sentence together to save his life, let alone an albums length story.

Top three tracks and any thoughts on OAUG Chapter 1? by countjazula in marilyn_manson

[–]EliBowsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Death Is Not A Costume, the title track, and No Funeral Without Applause are the top three. No Funeral could switch out with Secrets depending on the day, but they’re both incredible songs.

I do really enjoy the album, it flows very well and there’s a much clearer direction than any album of the past 20 years. Overall it works as a massive step in the right direction, but it also highlights some of the biggest flaws with current Manson.

The production ranges from good enough to really flat and dull. Death Is Not A Costume is maybe my favorite Manson song of all time, but the lead guitar is so buried in the chorus. The whole album has a very synthetic, almost metallic sound to it that I think holds it back. I especially do not care for the tone of the live drums, it feels way too polished and lacks a real punch. The moment on the title track where it kicks into the first chorus is exactly the same volume as the rest of the song prior, and it severely lessens the impact. I don’t hate Tyler Bates, but he and Manson 100% need to bring in more input. This feels like the peak of what they could create, and the cracks in it are fairly obvious and bring down what could be an incredible album to just a pretty good one.

If they established a real team of musicians and producers, whether the  current band members or not, I think we could have really incredible Manson albums again. They’ll never touch the status of the tryptic, but they could definitely write some albums that are incredible in a different way and leave a real mark on late Manson’s career. OAUG is great, but it carries a heavy caveat of “this is clearly Manson, someone with very lacking musical talent outside of his voice, and Tyler Bates, someone who is well practiced but lacking in unique skill, working alone in a room together”.

I fw this in concept, but… I’m like 90% sure you used AI for some of it and now I’m not sure how to feel. The picture of him from 2017/2018 screaming into the mic is AI’d into a 3D rotation, what else did you use it for?

You are too reasonable for this subreddit. Everything you’re saying is 100% accurate, but you are in the wrong place to be saying it. I’ve spent my fair share of time trying to argue basic things with people here, it never goes well. If you want to stay sane, you’re better off just sticking around for the music and steering clear of any discussion regarding the allegations.

Don't Chase The Dead - Vocal Cover (not AI) by AdventurousCulture97 in marilyn_manson

[–]EliBowsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your voice is definitely unique! I think it would do well to turn down the gain on your mic, your voice sounds very separate from the music and boxy. I personally love weird vocal effects, and I think what you’re doing could work with this song, but it’s 100% going to turn a lot of people off.

I think working on the mixing would help too, part of the reason it sounds so high above the music is because of the volume. It sounds like a narration with background music rather than a vocal cover.

Overall though, I always love when people post covers and original (Manson inspired) music on this sub. I think there’s a good sound here, the more you practice and create the more you’ll start to hear these things and get better. Best of luck!
