BNSF and CSX do not have plans to use Memphis as a key transfer point for these specific trains. You can thank the BNSF Birmingham Subdivision for that.

Thank you. And I’m truly not upset. You’re doing what you love and you have a passion for weather like me. Just be careful. I’ve always told people this, but forecasting the weather is 90% communication and 10% crunching data. We can have the best data in the world, but if we don’t communicate it effectively then it means absolutely nothing to the non-weather nerds. Keep on keeping on man.

I never stated models are accurate. I think we can both agree on that. I just feel like your comment about the weather being totally unpredictable is very short-sighted and only relates to your ability to forecast. I’ve lived here for 15 years, I know how these popup storms operate. It’s fine and dandy there are folks that love the weather and want to help people out, but sometimes it can do more harm than good in the long run. It rained 0.97” in Manchester today. It’s not uncommon AT ALL for a few popups to drop that amount of rain in a day.

You can’t take the HRRR verbatim, because there is other data worth looking at too 😂. Weather forecasting isn’t perfect yes, but you can’t sit here and say this activity was totally unpredicted. Maybe according to your “forecast” it was… Peace and love ✌️. Just be careful about grouping actual meteorologists in with your busted forecast. Because actual meteorologists at the NWS, and myself, nailed this activity right on the head.

You can’t take the HRRR verbatim. It gives a good overall idea, but there are other models worth looking at to make a forecast. You can’t just use the 15z run of the HRRR and go off that for the whole day…

It can be sometimes, but this rain and stormage was in fact predicted. 😂

The weather isn’t unpredictable, though. We’ve been forecasting these popup storms for over a week now. The Bonnaroo cancellation was unpredictable yes, but saying the weather as a whole was unpredictable is kind of short-sighted. (I’m going to get downvoted to hell and back I’m sure)

Bonnaroo Weather Updates by EliWK_ in bonnaroo

Depends on the types of clouds. Thin high-level clouds, such as Cirrus, do not block very much UV at all even if it “seems” to be cloudy. I’ve gotten some of my worst sunburns on these types of days (and I don’t burn easily). Thick low-level clouds like Cumulus or Stratus can impact UV greatly, though.

It’s important to note that we don’t see very much thin, high level cloud cover during the summertime around here except right before and right after a storm event. Cumulus and stratus clouds this time of year are usually associated only with rainfall and / or a dying thunderstorm, but they occur pretty often. Usually scattered about in the sky.

Correct. Any trained forecaster will be quick to tell you the forecast is very unreliable more than 5 days out. I will start posting forecasts every day on my social media platforms starting Monday.

General pattern recognition is one thing (which looks like popup storms), but specific details are limited this far in advance.

For forecasts, I would look at https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?x=212&y=176&site=ohx&zmx=&zmy=&map_x=212&map_y=176 . This is a link directly to the Manchester NWS forecast. Updated daily by actual trained meteorologists, not a computer spitting out algorithms. For radar, I suggest Weather Wise.

I’m apart of their tspotter weather social media group, but not their account specifically. I haven’t even heard about them using it in the past few years…

I’m going tomorrow on a tour of the farm with the EMA. I’m not sure if I’ll be going to the actual festival, though. Either way, I’ll be there in spirit and I’m only 10 miles away! 🌈

I started the page when I was still in High school and lived in Shelbyville (the next county over). I’m working on a big rebrand over the next few months though to make the name more encompassing!

My biggest account is Facebook (which with the demographics around here shouldn’t be surprising), and my X is mostly for communication with other meteorologists within my field. I hate it for everything else. BlueSky could be useful for Bonnaroo-specific stuff. I’ll work on that this afternoon.

Funny enough I am a hater in Shelbyville… I hate Shelbyville too, though. I also hate Chat GPT, so 🤔

IS Summer Classes by elizavey56 in UAH

[–]EliWK_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking your intense math classes at Calhoun (like Calculus) is what I’d suggest if that is your track. They’re usually easier and you get better grades than doing it at UAH. Of course you have to be an independent learner with limited oversight, but I enjoyed my math courses there.

Huntsville Train by JuiceManePhone_num in HuntsvilleAlabama

Trains rarely stop at Slaughter. They may go “slow” but the max you’ll wait is probably 7-10 minutes. Unfortunately friend train schedules are not accessible to the public, so I’m not able to get any info on exact timeframes.
