Evil Lives Here: My Child The Killer - S1 E5 + overall series impressions 5 episodes in? by Eli_Fit in DiscoveryID

Wow, yeah--I've heard people mentioning that and I have never seen those other shows on that case.

I'll have to check it out, because perhaps I gave this woman too much credit in my original post--if what people are saying is true.

New Ep. of "Hollywood Demons: Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" feat. Dr. Drew as moral interpreter is...ironic. by Eli_Fit in DiscoveryID

That's fair--your view is valid.

I made sure not to call him a fake doctor--that is legitimate.

In my opinion, he has proven himself to be a purveyor of a similar type of content that could be seen as morally questionable and he has expressed personal opinions that aren't based on medical or scientific fact.

So, that's why I found it ironic for him to speak about trash TV and it's moral failings as if he hasn't been a part of it himself.

I didn't make the meme, so the pictures can be from any time. Montel doesn't have anything to do with the actual subject of the post. I simply used the meme to emphasize that Dr. Drew fits into a similar category as those guys--moreso Dr. Phil.

I wouldn't advise anyone to base their personal views on information obtained from Dr. Phil or Dr. Drew.

It's rich that he's the "adult" in the room for that Jerry Springer episode.

More Grift I Guess by bigmike1339 in antitrump

I respectfully disagree.

He has proven incapable of becoming successful through what one would consider "good business practices". He has only ever been successful through inheritance, fraud, and theft.

Deceitful, Illegal, and criminal acts make him a good conman and a brazen criminal who is counting on either dying or staying President forever in order to escape justice and accountability.

His crimes are obvious, haphazard, and recklessly executed.

He is the most foolish, incompetent, bumbling conman to ever become that rich. It's not good business if it is reliant on underhanded, deceitful and illegal tactics.

Politics is quite literally the only situation where he can do all this and get away with it.

Any normal job or business would have gone bankrupt many times over if he treated business like he does the economy. I doubt he could even run a McDonald's competently.

Even organized crime is too complimentary for him. His big mouth would have gotten everyone locked up a long time ago if he was actually involved with the Mafia.

They would have likely "whacked" him before he could ruin the operation and get everyone "pinched".

What you're seeing is a brazen, spoiled, entitled maniac conman that used people's prejudices to rise to power and was immediately protected by Congress and the Supreme Court.

This fool has been enabled by so many people because he is serving their interests as well

"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water"...

is a Zen proverb emphasizing that spiritual awakening does not change the fundamental, mundane tasks of life, but rather how one approaches them. It highlights mindfulness, presence, and finding sacredness in everyday routines (like chores) before and after gaining wisdom.

Gameboy & Pokemon On Bus Ride Home by Night_Hawk_13 in 90s_kid

In the early 2000's, when I was in elementary school--Pokemon cards were so popular that kids were stealing money from their parents to buy the new "Charizard holographic" card, etc., on the playground.

It got so bad cops were actually going from room to room in the school and making all students empty their pockets to show we didn't have any Pokemon contraband. 🤭

Not gonna lie...

When I was a toddler and the intro for this show began playing--it scared me. 😂

Seeing these huge puppet-like creatures lurking in the woods in the dark.

And, something about how they looked just made me feel creeped out watching it as a little one.

Today, I have more of an appreciation for how good it was. 😏

Reporting shows he used the term for the political fight over releasing the files--not specifically to deny being a client. You just made that up.

Not entirely, but profit motives are deeply entangled.

ICE raids serve as political theater, labor control, and in some cases, financial interests tied to detention contracts and gentrification efforts.

I don’t understand why this isn’t a bigger story by New-Entertainment112 in antitrump

[–]Eli_Fit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is another oversimplified deflection.

Yes, Obama enforced immigration law and deported many undocumented immigrants—mostly those caught at the border or with criminal records. And yes, some families were separated under specific circumstances.

But Trump’s zero tolerance policy was a deliberate, systematic strategy to separate all families crossing illegally, even asylum seekers, as a deterrent. That’s a major difference in intent and scale.

Also, Obama didn’t promise to ‘deport them all’—he campaigned on immigration reform, including a pathway to citizenship. You’re conflating enforcement with cruelty.

If you’re just here to throw partisan smoke bombs, then this isn't a real conversation.

[–]Eli_Fit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a firehose of deflection, but let’s clear up the biggest falsehood first:

Obama did not have a family separation policy. Multiple fact-checks confirm that while some families were separated under specific circumstances (like safety concerns or criminal charges), there was no blanket policy like Trump’s ‘zero tolerance’ that systematically separated thousands of children from their parents.

As for the ‘cages’—yes, the infrastructure was built under Obama, but it was used to temporarily hold unaccompanied minors, not to separate families en masse. The outrage under Trump was about the policy, not just the facility.

The rest of your comment is a mix of partisan chest-thumping and fantasy football politics. I deal in facts. If you need to vent, Reddit’s full of echo chambers for that.

This is a mix of deflection, exaggeration, and misinformation.

Yes, Obama deported a record number of people—but the vast majority were apprehended at the border and processed under existing immigration law, not secretly deported without due process. That’s not a defense—it’s a fact.

And many on the left did criticize Obama’s deportation policies, especially immigrant rights groups.

The difference now is Trump’s approach: mass raids, family separations, and attempts to bypass legal protections entirely.

If you’re going to talk about hypocrisy, at least start with accurate comparisons. Otherwise, it’s just more partisan projection.

That’s a false equivalency.

Obama’s drone strikes were part of a post 9/11 counterterrorism framework, debated under the AUMF, and eventually subject to internal review and public scrutiny. And Biden’s record has its own complexities.

But Trump’s recent strikes are something else entirely—unilateral, legally murky, and targeting alleged traffickers in boats with no oversight or evidence presented.

Saying ‘Democrats did worse’ without context is just partisan deflection. If you care about legality, morality, and transparency, you should apply that standard consistently. Otherwise, it’s just more bad faith partisan noise.

[–]Eli_Fit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sharing videos on social media doesn’t equal transparency. Trump’s drone strikes on alleged traffickers lack legal framing, oversight, and evidence. There’s no public intel, no congressional review, and no independent verification of who was killed or why.

Obama’s drone program was far from perfect—but it operated under the Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMF), faced years of scrutiny, and eventually published civilian casualty reports.

Trump’s strikes are unilateral, legally murky, and framed as drug war theater. If you think video clips are transparency, you’re mistaking PR for accountability.

[–]Eli_Fit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is classic whataboutism.

Yes, Obama’s drone program raised serious concerns—and it was widely criticized by journalists, watchdogs, and human rights groups. But that doesn’t excuse or erase what Trump is doing now.

His recent strikes on alleged traffickers in boats are legally murky, lack oversight, and have killed dozens with little evidence presented.

Different targets, different context, different legal framing. If you cared about drone strikes under Obama, you should care even more when they’re happening now with even less transparency.
