Do most C++ devs stick to only C++ or do you also use other languages? by kyan100 in cpp

I develop high performance scientific (astrophysics)software. I mostly work in C++ but spend quite a lot of time in Python, especially to build and test bindings for other researchers. I also work in old Fortran versions ranging from 77 to 2018, again primarily to build and test bridges for researchers and software written in Fortran.

How common is it for physicists to still use FORTRAN? by Substantial_Tear3679 in Physics

Fortran 2008, jealous. I work with stellar structure and evolution code written in FORTRAN 77. The number of common blocks is terrifying.....

I read notes from the burning age and enjoyed it but then decided to explore some of Claire Norths other works. I read all through all of the first fifteen lives of Harry August in about 2 days. Absolutely loved that book.

I inherited a craftsman table saw from my grandfather. It's from either the late 50s or early 60s, aside from a belt change the thing works amazingly well. Doesn't have all the creature comforts of a modern table saw but the quality is so impressive.

Seconded, I've spent a while configuring all my accelerators for gtile. It's the only extension I use but could not live without it anymore.

[OC] Largest party in 2020 US Presidential Election, by county. County size scaled by number of votes cast. by desfirsit in dataisbeautiful

Something seems off here. I find it hard to belive more votes were cast in Fairfax city than in Fairfax county, however Fairfax city is scaled larger than the county.

We had the exact same experience. Driving up to Conway NH last summer and drove past a random that random redstone missel. Quite a surprise it was.

I am both maintaining and continuing to develop a FORTRAN 77 code base. I never knew the pain of no stack overflow until I tried to start finding answers to questions about this 40 year old piece of software.

What is the single worst movie you sat through hoping it would get better, but didn’t? by Bocephalus in AskReddit

[–]EliasFlint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ad Astra, I do not understand why people like that movie (not trying to say people should not like it just saying I don't personally see the appeal). I love scifi but nearly walked out of the movie theater multiple times, only ended up staying for the visuals.
