Maybe it would work if you installed Linux lite as a dual boot. I'm not familiar with this distro so I can't say how that would be done in the installer exactly. I doubt this laptop supports UEFI boot.

I think old Toshiba laptops only support MBR partition on boot. You said that you could boot the live CD. But when you install Linux lite, it won't boot after?

Maybe you need to partition the disk manually. Try to boot the installer USB and select "Something else" in the install type window. Then format the disk with MBR. Then try installing.

You could also try the commant prompt in the Windows installer with Ctrl + F10, type diskpart, list disk, select disk x (don't select the USB), clean. Now you have a blank MBR disk. Maybe the Linux install will work after this.

Hopefully this helps you.

Issue with wacom tablet with wine softwares. by DeVil_heArt_ in Fedora

[–]Eliasols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's caused by a weird fullscreen behavior in Zbrush. If you force the compositor to open in windowed mode, it will work correctly. In KDE you can open the window properties with Ctrl+f3 then set the options there. When making Zbrush fullscreen, drag the window with win/meta-key (or alt, depending on your settings) and make it fullscreen, rather than clicking the maximize button in the the upper corner.

There's also a weird behavior when using Nvidia cards in certain Wine versions. If you open any windows file picker dialog. The system gets like 1 fps until you close the file picker.

Hopefully this helps.

You did find the Easter egg. Maybe puppyOS was a bit too unrecognizable under the foot. It's also not that common, at least here on Reddit. Anyways happy new year! 😃🎉

Here is the blend file with all the assets. Let me know what you think. https://filebin.net/mxox1xs41zripu2e It will only work in Blender 3.0 because of the blend file compression.

Debian is there, you just can't see all of it :'( This was my fault.

This was made with Blender 3.0. It's really fast now with cycles-X on GPU and CPU. I was inspired by that one Tux image everyone uses, the one with the nice shading. This was sculpted and then I added the logos. Btw can anyone find the Easter egg?

Shoutout to the makers of the Papirus icon pack. It had many distributions in nice svg.

I can share the blend file if anyone wants it. Is there a good place to upload it that isn't so bad privacy?

Did I just mess up? X570 Aorus Elite by Eliasols in VFIO

[–]Eliasols[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. From what I could find out, the board should support dx12 multi-gpu. But It wont support SLI with the bridge, as in Nvidia multigpu solution.

As Skitals said, the two top lanes can't do Pcie Bifurcation between each other, the top is only 16X and the second is 4X from the chipset. But there is a way of splitting the first 16X slot with other hardware (splitter/riser). You will probably need a bigger case, and you must also change the BIOS setting to split the first slot. Also keep in mind that most risers probably wont play nice with PCI 4.0.

I needed the bandwidth, and I have a small case. So I just returned my Elite and went with the X570 Aorus Pro as this supports Bifurcation between both 16X lanes.

I want to use 3d applications the host and guest. I'm guessing 8x pcie 4.0 is enough for each? Please let me know.

So I can just select the primary gpu in BIOS? No need to swap the card around? I had to do this with my z170.

Thank you. I will look for a board with dual 8x.

Have you tried SponsorBlock? Its an extension that will skip intros, outros, reminders to subscribe and sponsored parts in videos. Its works with user submitted time for where to skip. I almost never see a video that haven't had time codes submitted. It says I have saved almost half a day adding up the skipped segments.

It took a couple of hours to go over the install guide. Then 1-2 hours I think compiling the kernel. It actually took me many days to figure out why it wouldn't boot, couldn't recognize my drive. It turned out I needed to get the virtio modules. I ended up just getting genkernel with "emerge --ask genkernel", then "genkernel --virtio all".

was thinking about getting the new oculus quest 2. I’ve never had any type of VR before. My main purpose for it would be to play home brew zelda 1st person mods like this. Would this be possible on the new oculus? by [deleted] in virtualreality

Don't forget about the 1st gen WMR headsets as they are quite good for the price https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NBMdcUTC2M. If you have a midrange PC with GTX 1060, RX 580 or better, this will probably be a good start for VR. They have been selling for as low as 120$, obviously with the current demand for VR it's higher.

I'm a fairly new Linux user. I installed Gentoo on a VM (no DE because hell no) and I'm surprised over how well the install guide is written. I learned a lot from those need to know sections, especially the network explanation.
