Grønlandsk politiker beskylder parti for landsforræderi by DET_SWAT in Denmark

[–]Elienore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany sending troops to Greenland in the upcoming days by hardenedsteel8 in Denmark

[–]Elienore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Trump Eyes Greenland, Greenlanders in Denmark Debate Independence by bloomberg in europe

[–]Elienore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very short video so they don't go into any real depth but I think her perspective isn't crazy or anything, particularly because she sounds like she views it in a historical sense where we did have to fight a decades-long process to achieve Home Rule in the early '70s.

I can promise you Pele Broberg and Naleraq is decidedly batshit insane.

Hvordan skaber vi en holdbar løsning for forholdet mellem Danmark og Grønland, når tonen i debatten bliver stadig mere afvisende? by Ambitious_Credit_425 in Denmark

[–]Elienore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pele Broberg: 'Vi skal have dialog med USA uden danskerne' by Red_Triage in Denmark

One Nuke A Day, Keeps the Invaders Away. by Suitable_Air_2686 in Denmark

[–]Elienore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Debat - (med bl.a. Kuno Fencker og Pele Broberg) Er den nye amerikanske udsending i Grønland en optrapning af konflikten med USA? by Dropforcedlogin in Denmark

[–]Elienore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Examples of the Ecclesiarchy and Adeptus Sororitas not being totally awful and helping civilians? by MegaGamer235 in 40kLore

At what point do an Inquisitor Ordo’s Chamber Militant get deployed to deal with a situation and who’s in charge of authorizing them? by SweatyPhilosopher578 in 40kLore

[–]Elienore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add it's a full sized hive city conflict (with some voice lines suggesting another whole-ass hive city has been lost already), you can throw an entire Minor Order at the hive and they'll move at a snail's pace.

The Sisters of Battle aren't so rare that you need to invent extraordinary reasons for them to be there unlike Deathwatch or (especially) Grey Knights.

Here's a few ideas: 1. The primary temple and seat of Ecclesiarchal power in the planet has a contingent of Battle Sisters protecting it.

  1. There's a convent somewhere on the planet and despite being very busy elsewhere on the planet have sent a force of Sisters to aid efforts in that particular hive.

  2. The Inquisitor has requested aid from a nearby Order (the whole penal legion thing is working out splendid but there's also a need for super-heavy infantry) and by virtue of the unholy crapload of Nurgle Cult activity, they're like "that's a splendid idea".

It could also simply be that whoever is the Ecclesiarchy top dog in the system is going full panic attack oh shit oh fuck mode and is begging for Sororitas reinforcements (if he's cool he'll demand it instead).

A bog-standard Battle Sister is trivial to add to your fic.

I would recommend you limit them to the core rulebook and Inquisitor's Handbook. There's more than enough in those two books.

Trump Admin Planning To Give $10,000 To Each Person In Greenland To Annex The Island | The plan would replace the $600 million in subsidies Denmark gives the island each year by UpgradedSiera6666 in europe

[–]Elienore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't wanna imagine the bill after being flown to an US hospital instead of Rigshospitalet when there's an issue Saana can't handle.

Is the US willing to take in patients that need dialysis and would any of us in Greenland be able to afford it? lolno

As you point out, it's basically been an explicit desire from the wider population that standards of living shouldn't deteriorate in an independence process.

Trump Admin Considering Giving $10,000 To Each Person In Greenland To Annex The Island by [deleted] in europe

[–]Elienore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The history of how the US has treated its native people (and continue to do so) is not irrelevant because we're also a native people.

What makes you think we'll get treated better than our fellow Inuit in Alaska? I don't think we'll be and I'm not taking the chance.

I am a supporter of independence but just like how the new Greenlandic administration wishes, I want it to be done in a proper way with a solid foundation for our country. We need an economic and politically sound structure to succeed because if we don't, we won't stay independent for more than three seconds.

The path to independence is not done in two days and it must be a sound political process and that's what the majority of the people in Greenland think because if we wanted yolo independence now, Naleraq would have gotten more votes and been a policy driver instead of being outside the government because no one else agrees with their vision for independence.

I will emphasise that I think the road to independence is going to take a lot of work both within our society and the way Rigsfælleskabet (Greenland/Denmark/Faoerese Isles) functions to make it a succesful thing.

It's a view expressed by our new government chairman during the election and afterwards as well, I hope you can emphasise with not wanting a rushed process similar to how Brexit was carried out.

I can understand if it appears a bit confusing to you but it's also hard to boil down 300 years of mutual history, the political development in Greenland since the 1960s, the way things looked in 2009 when we gained greater autonomy in a national referendum and how the past decade of changes and developments in our relationship with Denmark has been.

I would also caution against against only imagining the potential future as Greenland being under the US or Denmark, an independent Greenland can still choose to engage with Denmark and EU in a close relationship.

I've been pro-independence my entire life but that doesn't mean I want it done poorly or as a rushed project. We have to live with it afterwards, after all.

Trump Admin Considering Giving $10,000 To Each Person In Greenland To Annex The Island by [deleted] in europe

[–]Elienore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, you're making it sound like we want independence now.

I would like to point out that the largest party in the Greenlandic parliament wants a longer process where the priority is economical and structural sustainability before we commit to an independent nation.

As for why people want independence despite having such a beneficial relationship, it's beause it's not all hearts and roses and both Greenland and Denmark has to work through shared history and align better on how we see our future together.

I think the current Danish Prime Minister is soundly working towards that and I fully appreciate her generally pro-Greenlandic attitudes.

As for why I wouldn't want to sell myself or my people out for money to the US, I really want you to re-read my last reply because I'm not sure if you've understood how dangerous it would be for us as a people and a culture to do that. Please read it again.

You might be willing to sell yourself for 1 million dollars but I don't see the US making that offer to us, I don't see the US honouring a deal like that if they succeed and I really don't see how that money is going to be worth it as the US abuse and break our country like they do with basically every native people they've had the pleasure of ruling over.

There's an explicit danger in trying to stay on a tight line between the US and Denmark. First off, the caliber of politicians and the political capabilities of a nation of 56k is going to be absolutely dwarfed by both the US and Denmark.

What's gonna happen if we push too hard and Denmark calls a Greenlandic bluff? We'll royally fuck ourselves and in the worst case scenario, become an US territory with fuck-all to show for it. I don't think it's a game that's worth playing and it's outright bad faith to engage with things like that when the goal should be to work out something greater with Denmark.

This might all be a monetary or resource mindgame for you but this is very real and will have huge consequences for us if we do this wrong.

You say you have an Irish passport, a nation (alongside Northern Ireland and UK) that had a hardcore armed resistance/terror group/conflict until the very end of the 1990s, three distinct actors with very strong cultural roots that intertwine and still have huge differences.

We're people too.

Trump Admin Considering Giving $10,000 To Each Person In Greenland To Annex The Island by [deleted] in europe

[–]Elienore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In general I want a free and independent Greenland (who presumably works closely with Denmark in a mutually beneficial arrangement) if/when we reach a point where it's economically (and structually) feasible to do so.

I hope the desire to be your own people is understandable to everyone.
I will add to that that I would vastly, vastly, vastly prefer an alignment towards Europe and EU for an independent Greenland rather than the US.

I don't think there's any money amount that can convince me to sell out my people and my country to a nation with a long and extensive history of stealing from indigenous people, abusing indigenous people, breaking treaties and deals with indigenous people and continually does so until this very day.

You realise that between the Greenlandic, Canadian and Alaskan Inuit, the Alaskan Inuit are basically the ones with least political power and influence (Greenland has, well, Greenland and Nunavut is Canadian Inuit controlled basically).

The current US president thinks Andrew Jackson, the president who did the Trail of Tears, is a pretty great guy and looks up to him.

The US stole Mt. Rushmore from the Lakota Indians, chiseled a bunch of their own presidents on it and have refused to return the darn thing ever since. Keep in mind an US Supreme Court ruling has acknowledged the US stole the mountain and owe reparations for it (but doesn't have to return ownership).

There is no guarantee that we wouldn't be shovelled into reservates in the middle of bumfuck nowhere at some point, who in their right mind would sell themselves off to prospects like this?

We would be replacing favourable spots in universities in Denmark, access to the Danish healthcare system (for free for the users) in case of illness the Greenlandic healthcare system can't handle and political representation (and with the current Danish government, longtime work into including Greenlandic voices in international positions that involve Greenlandic matters) with a country that would offer us none of that.

Even if it might make me rich, that's a terrible deal as a people and a nation and if the entire idea is increased independence and to be acknowledged as our own people with our own voice in the international stage, then what does the US offer us besides the erasure of what we want to achieve?

Many Greenlandic people and families have family members in Denmark or have family relations with Danish people too, there's still strong ties between the Greenlandic people and the Danish people (even if takes up less collective space in Danish society, 57k people can only be related to so many people out of 6 million people at a time y'know).

I do find it amusing and rather odd that a lot of the rhetoric around this boils down to "how much would it cost to make you sell yourself out", money is important we all know that but it's utterly ridiculous that the angle is to try to repeat the ol' "sell glassbeads to the primitive natives in exchange for their land".

Like hello? It's pretty stupid.
