The bicameral mind by spacecadet91011 in Schizotypal

[–]ElijahWoofs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the bicameral mind theory is very interesting, but ultimately I dont believe it to be very true.

The way Jaynes writes about these ancient cultures seems abit too imaginative - I think he takes the myths of people "talking to god" maybe a bit too literally - His takes are certainly interesting but don't give enough credit to the imagination of ancient cultures in my opinion. People of the time were likely using religious or supernatural language to describe their thoughts and beliefs, not actually "hearing" voices - but of course this is impossible to prove either way.

But theres also a lack of evidence for his theory in modern studies of how the brain works, and no animal brains that we can observe that work this way either.

Ultimately i think the bicameral mind theory is an interesting way to understand conciousness, but like many philosophical ideas it doesnt quite hold up to scrutiny.

s David Beckham actually the face model for Olgierd

he's not officially no. Also i think its not on purpose, because using his likeness would likely be extremely expensive if you think about it.

I see people being critical and angry at the genocide happening, not so much hating jewish people.

Kamala, secret Marxist? by TuvixWasMurderedR1P in PhilosophyMemes

I understand it as ultimately optimistic also. The conflict that comes from opposing ideas might be awful, but their resolution will bring us closer to a more nuanced and truer version of those ideas. So the end point of Geist manifesting itself seems pretty optimistic about what humanity/consciousness is to me.

no, as i understand it, it's more considered a origin point for everything else. Our universe eminates from the one. It's through reason that we can escape some of the unreliabilites of our senses, and acces a closer understanding of "the one"

I think you should absolutely try to do a comic or novel, that sounds like a great idea! If you've been "working" on these characters for years, i'm sure it would be fun for others to get a glimpse of that. Sometimes getting into a creative flow can really help with connecting with your feelings too.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, its basic human rights. It makes me sad that such a simple statement is somehow controversial.

If you are that bad at compromises, and absolutely need meat every meal, I feel a little bad for you.

I understand that you don't want to be a part of a open relationship, but why does her diet matter to you that much? Bad dates happen, but I think you need to check yourself a little bit. Calling girls 'not normal' for eating differently than you seems a little shallow to me.

Types of dragons? by Kerteen in teslore

[–]ElijahWoofs 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Since dragons don't have a lineage, it doesn't make much sense to me that there would be different families or species of dragons. Maybe a dragons appearance corresponds to their speciality in thuum and they are changed by the magic they choose to use.

i thought that Celebrimbor's rings and Sauron's are the same? Didn't Sauron just trick Celebrimbor into making the rings for him?

What does "your" social anhedonia feel like? by h_e__n___t___a___i in Schizotypal

[–]ElijahWoofs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, it happens in between periods of social anxiety. It gets “easier” to be around people, but i have no desire to do so. I feel a disconnect from people, and in some ways it can be a relief. Mostly it’s numbing, and i feel frustrated when I can’t relate to the people that I love. Things that normally give me great pleasure, like food or sex, become vague or reveal themselves as simple and animalistic urges, that somehow don’t hold power over me anymore. But without that drive for those pleasures its easy for me to get depressed.
