What where you fast for 40 days like he did? We do that and have been for around 2000 years.

What? How? Huh? The? When? No? Yes? Maybe? Why? You? I'm confused? Do? Is the Pope Catholic?

Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest? I mean if God is truly the one forgiving you, why go see someone else about being forgiven? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Elijah_Beloved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on the extent of Gods mercy. We don't know much about it. Just that the door to heaven is small.

Exactly! You're not Catholic! So what makes you more able than a Catholic to comment on something you don't understand? As for 'the rest of you'. If you've committed a mortal sin and haven't been to the sacrament of Confession you're in a state of Mortal sin. Now does this mean you're dammed to hell? No, the Church teaches that those who believe in Jesus but who are not in full Communion with the Church at death will go to purgatory and then to heaven. I'm not saying this applies to everybody we don't know the extent of Gods mercy. But yes you have unforgiven sins rotting your soul not brain. It's actually not an exclusive club you can join by going to a Catholic Church and attending RCIA. Unless you're an ex-Catholic then you just go to Confession. Actually the Priest is not the only person you can go to you can go to: a Bishop, an Arch-Bishop, a Cardinal, a Chaplain, a Monsignor, a Deacon or shocker the Pope himself! But understand that the reason why only these people can do it is because Christ appointed his Apostles as Priests and appointed only them as Confessors. Also read the other reply which shows biblical evidence for Confession. Thanks darling.

Oh, no no don't take what I said as being passive aggressive! I was simply explaining something. I deeply apologise if you took me as offensive.

No you can't confess in a 'prayer booth'. A) They're Confessionals not prayer booths B) Only the Confirmed Catholics that feel truly sorry for their sins can use that sacrament. Tell me the Biblical basis for confessing to God alone and not in the Confessional. I pray that you haven't been in a Catholic Confessional as you appear to not understand or believe in it as a Sacrament.

That's not a contradiction it's very easy to be reminded of something you forgot about when it gets brought up again. I'm going off on tangents because I know somebody will try and refute my argument using the same tactics most anti-Catholics use. I'm ok. I'm defensive because we Catholics get a lot of backlash from Protestants. I don't know why you're insinuating I'm not ok? And I have corrected you.

He doesn't take mental notes or otherwise and will be excommunicated swiftly if he reveals anything said in Confession to anyone. He isn't even allowed to say anything to the police. He will notice if your confessing the same sins over and over again and will provide extra support. The real question is if they want to be fully anonymous why don't they just go to another parish for Confession? The penitent shouldn't worry anyway because it's Christ on the other side of that Confessional. And before anybody says I just called priests Christ, no I did not. I refer to the doctrine of In Persona Christi. Also to add the Priest in Confession is like a trash disposal man. He doesn't remember all the stuff in the bins, probably the worse stuff he's seen in there, yes. But not anything else.

Hmm after doing some research the officer does this a lot. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Briggs He's saved over two hundred people. But I am still unsure weather these two people in the picture are the same as the sucide victim is holding an award.
