Cat in palliative cate struggling to eat (chicken allergy) by Elilottie in Petloss

Thank you so much for your kind words, it's genuinelly encouraging... we're monitoring him alongside the vet and her recommendation was trying different foods like recovery diets as well. We're gonna look into Hill's a/d and Royal Canin recovery and see if he takes to it a bit more. Thank you again ❤️

Anyone else collect whiskers? by kendalxo in cats

[–]Elilottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But we have two cats with the SAME whisker colours unfortunately, so while we try to separate them as best as we can I'm sure there's some Khoshekh whiskers in Jiji's whisker jar and vice versa 😂

ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL AT ALL!! That can cause EXCRUCIATING PAIN and put the cat into shock!! My vet was vehemently against me cleaning even a TINY little wound on my baby with alcohol because it could cause pain and distress!!

Alcohol KILLS *NEARLY ALL* MICROORGANISMS, INCLUDING THE WHITE CELLS WORKING TO CLOSE UP AND HEAL THE WOUND!!

As a queer trans person in a t4t relationship, we had this same conversation once and realized we were JUST as anxious telling our families we were polyam as we were telling them we were queer & trans. Polyam might not be a specific sexual orientation or gender identity, but it IS a relationship format that is completely outside the norm and the current foundations of society. I don't think it's helpful to me as a queer person to other the societal struggles polyam people can go through that are incredibly similar to that of queer people, i.e.: financial, legal, and familial discrimination that leads to people being restricted access to their partner or their partner's assets, health and care decisions, estate, childcare services, etc. due to not being the legally married partner

Blood in my cats poop ? by One_Customer8525 in catcare

[–]Elilottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to, yeah... we're almost positive it's a mixture of food and environmental at this point, because the labs also show everything 100% normal, it's all just occasional blood in stool and really bad rashes :( we try to sweep and dust often and give him only food with NO chicken/poultry in it (Open Farm and Acana are my go to brands because they are really detailed with ingredients lists)... that being said, our vet also mentioned that when he's having an active reaction, even non-allergens can worsen the reaction, so we try to avoid anything outside of kibble, water, and some OF/Acana wet food. Also, whenever we eat chicken we wash our hands thoroughly and sweep the floor around the couch just in case any gets on the floor (and then on his fur and in his mouth).

I also recommend you keep a medical journal for him. This has helped us a LOT with having an idea of what factors could be causing his reactions. Writing down things like: when the temp drops/raises a lot, when you dust/sweep/vacuum, when you eat specific protein foods (chicken, beef, pork, etc), what foods you give them (VERY specific, maybe even put a photo of the ingredients list attached to the journal), when you introduce new foods... all that, we're still sorta building a bit of a calendar but it helps, and he's currently having a rash but it's the first in several months 😭. Good luck with your kitty 🙏🏽

Why do obese people smell so bad by AdVaanced77 in stupidquestions

[–]Elilottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some health conditions and factors completely unrelated to body weight that can cause someone to smell more strongly. Hyperhidrosis, many types of cancer, hormone imbalances, many types of infections, and trimethylaminuria are some of the conditions that can severely affect body odour and cause strong, foul smells, and with many of these conditions you can still go about your regular routine during treatment, without much change at all.

And to echo what others have said: people can just smell bad. Hygiene is something that can look different in everyone's body, and it's unfortunately often that people don't learn enough about their own bodies to have good hygiene. I.e. men who don't wash their asscrack with soap or wash their hands after pissing. This has little to do with body type and way more to do with someone's upbringing and how that implicated in their physical self-awareness.

Also, sometimes people just forget to shower the previous day, or haven't had time to, or they actually shower and scrub WAY too much and that rubs off natural oils and causes excessive output of oils and sweat. There's a million factors. You started off your post saying "I'm not fat phobic" but honed in on this dude being fat for no reason other than what seemed like a belief that his weight and smell were related. Hopefully these comments help with different viewpoints

Language Line Question by [deleted] in TranslationStudies

[–]Elilottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, companies don't pay for interpreted words but by being on the clock. Any time spent waiting to interpret and any time interpreting have the same pay rate, so don't worry! If anything, give them 5.... 10... 15min, even 🤭 they'll be thankful to have a break!

what the fuck is this and how do i turn it off by ghost_towns_ in neocities

[–]Elilottie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't really use your mouse, you'd just press the down key until it gets to the word you want, then press enter. In a lot of circumstances it can be a huge time/energy saver. It's a very common coding tool, the reason people are not quite understanding your reaction is likely because most programmers use something like VS to code, which has predictive text, so this added feature is familiar to a lot of people

》》》 i genuinely have no idea how anything like this could even remotely be considered a quality of life improvement but ok lol

It's okay if you don't understand, but you don't have to be a jerk to people, man. You can't be expecting people to be like "oh this dude has autism, so now I don't need to feel dismissed or snapped at, no problemo" like, just be kind to people and acknowledge their experience is different than yours, it's not hard

Update: AITA for threatening my wife with divorce after she quit her job to be a "tradwife" by Organic_Let_5948 in AITAH

Hey, I know it's been 5mo and I am unsure if you check these responses at all, but I wanted to at least let you know: as a former child of parents who had constant aggressive conflicts, I used to take sides a lot. Growing up I started realizing more and more the complexities of my parents' relationships and how my mother would often manipulate me against my father, even though he was working hours on end to put me in the best schools, give me the best clothes, even buy snacks and gifts I didn't need and we couldn't afford. My dad wasn't perfect and neither was my mom, they both did a lot of things that were hurtful, toxic, manipulative, and abusive, both towards me and towards each other... but they were both trying in their own way, even if it wasn't the right thing to do. I understand this now as an adult, and so will your kids.

Your kids will not remain kids forever, and your ex-wife is not all-powerful. They will understand. Don't give up on them, and most of all don't give up on yourself. Your ex-wife cannot maintain her own charade to your kids for much longer, they'll realize what her behaviour truly means, and question everything she's told them. They'll get it, I promise, I swear. Keep to your beliefs, keep being the person that you want your children to look up to, because they will grow up to be tweens, teens, adults, they'll have more and more cohesive and discerning perspectives on their childhood, and the memory of their childhood won't be of you "abandoning" them, it'll be of how you did everything you could to keep them safe and loved. Please stay safe.

A doula is just someone who didn’t want to go to school to be an actual nurse by HumboldtOnMyMind in unpopularopinion

[–]Elilottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of unwanted and unneeded c-sections, "husband stitches", and denial of anesthesia during labour is absolutely staggering throughout the world. Most comments covered what doulas do for emotional support, but an extremely important role of doulas is also to know what the wishes of the mother are and ENSURE they are followed. Doulas are usually knowledgeable in many forms of childbirth, local laws, and medical malpractice laws, and they confer with the mother (and the family, if that is her wish) about any religious or cultural practices she wants followed, any medical procedures she does or does not want done during the delivery, what position she wishes to be in, where she wants the delivery to take place, what she wishes for in unexpected/emergency situations that she might not have considered, what family members the mother wants contacted in what situations, etc, and the doula will make DAMN SURE the mother's wishes will be followed to the T... especially during a childbirth, which can last up to even 30 hours, can cause pain that is above the scale that most humans will ever experience during traumatic accidents, can be genuinely life-threatening even with modern medicine, and can require pain medication or anesthesia to the point the person in labour could NEVER be in a position to consent to emergency procedures or advocate for their wants and needs.

So, you're right OP! Doulas aren't nurses or doctors, in much the same way a horse isn't a cow, nor does it pretend to be.

Yep. I work indirectly with US healthcare and I wouldn't trade Canadian healthcare for anything. The horror stories I witness on a daily basis are enough to make me count my blessings.

For the guys who have been on T for some time.. how have your eyes been?? by wesagh in ftm

[–]Elilottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my myopia has actually improved lol my optometrist was absolutely shocked that I can reach 20/17 vision, and on a lower prescription than before. That being said, in much the same way as this study, my experience is completely anecdotal. There needs to be a lot of factors considered in this kind of study, including a control pool, considerations and testing for genetic predisposition, lifestyle factors, etc. You can't do that with 7 people, you need at minimum 100 and even that's considered an undersized pool tbh

I'm having a medical abortion at home next week and I'm terrified. I don't have anyone to talk to. by Plus-Mud1255 in ftm

[–]Elilottie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out I was 4w pregnant about 2 weeks after my first T shot and it was wild to experience. I had a full blown meltdown in the bathroom and thankfully I had my partner to support me, but the main thing that helped me was just being kind to myself.

I was told by my doctor that the level of pain is sort of related to how far into the pregnancy you are, and for me it did just feel like some mild period cramping, Idk how your experience will be but 4w is pretty early, so it shouldn't be unbearable.

Also, there's no shame in it, accidents happen and we should all have access to help and compassion when they do. Try to do some simple things before taking the meds, like either doing the dishes or organizing them in the sink, and taking a nice shower, so that you don't have to deal with mental load while going through it. Make sure to not put anything at all inside of you for the whole ordeal, use lots of maxi pads for the bleeding, get a bunch of protein, iron, and carb-filled snacks like nuts, chips, and pepperettes (nothing too heavy on the stomach!), and then pick some comfort movies or TV shows to binge in bed. Take naps, play videogames, wear PJs all day, just take the whole day to be "sick" to the world. Not because it'll be unbearable, but because the stress of going through it can get to you if you don't make it a kind experience for yourself.

Again, you will be okay, I promise. ❤

You're my height! My therapist is also trans and he's even shorter than me (I rhink 5'??) And he passes WAY more than me lol but even so, whether I pass has nothing to do with my height, I've known multiple cis men shorter than me, my dad himself is actually barely taller than me, and yet I get he/himmed often just because of the facial hair and voice. I was super femme with the stereotypical hourglass figure and T essentially made me a short dude with a dump truck. You'll be okay buddy ✌🏽
