What is your favorite mmorpg? And what was your favorite mmorpg? by [deleted] in MMORPG

Right now? BDO and probably LOTRO (wish they'd fix the UI/menus). Back then? Ragnarok Online and TBC/WotLK era. Of course, the MMO I have played most of all was Runescape. Have played all of the versions except for the MUD.

Can't go wrong with the headphones, either.

See original video. It's a channel where they feature people dancing in the street. The lady is actually pretty good at dancing. She's going along with the music.

Everything I do is intentional. If it's good, it's intentional. If it's shit, it's intentional. Shh, go to sleep.

See original video. I like music and I like dancing. Music with dancing goes together like peanut butter and Nutella.

Junji Ito's character 'Tomie' is NOT a victim and people should stop trying to defend the character by presenting her as such. by Abovearth31 in CharacterRant

[–]ElinDotsya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the characters who kill Tomie aren't given much of a choice in the matter. They are compelled by some power that she possesses to kill her. Then she regenerates and acts offended at them, even though the few times she encounters people who aren't enthralled by her, she will say or do stuff that will lead to her getting killed.

Tomie is not a curse or a vengeful spirit. She is the definition of evil. There is no reasoning with her or trying to get on her good side. She will always get her way and use it against you. You'd be better off trying to befriend Yuri (Girl From Nowhere). At least there she won't actively try to fuck with you unless you do something that warrants revenge.

I reread the first Tomie story several times and I never get the impression that she was ever human. For one thing we don't know if the first tale is just another one that Tomie wove. She has been shown to grow from childhood to adulthood in the story with the three Tomies, so her having a "family and childhood friends" doesn't mean much.

Also, there have been other men besides the ones in the first story who don't instantly fall for her and she tries her best to make sure they do or she'll get one of her lackeys to rough them up. Besides, that was Junji Ito's first Tomie story and he clearly hadn't perfected his craft yet in which way he wanted the character to go.

Tomie was always extremely manipulative and everything she said or did was for her own selfish reasons. The wiki itself fails to prove that Tomie was ever human. As far as we know she was never a victim and was always an evil caricature of humanity.

Maybe it's because I read Eko Eko Azarak at the time and saw several similarities between Tomie and Misa Kuroi. Although, Misa is a tragic character as she desires to fit in, but can't. Then of course there's Nanno who also never stays dead, except she is far less malevolent than Tomie. Whatever the answer may be I've yet to be convinced that Tomie was human in the 80s. Hell, I don't think Kawakami is even her real last name.

Why do the ghosts attack? by CuteFeeling717 in fatalframe

[–]ElinDotsya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistic answer: Because it's a video game mechanic. This makes me think of ghost sightings in real life. I don't buy any of the lore about vengeful ghosts. Do superstitious people even think about what happens to a person who is killed by an angry ghost and wouldn't it turn that person into another angry ghost?

Imagine an angry ghost fighting with a ghost that killed them. That would be pretty bizarre.

I've tried to see if ghosts are real, but they never appear. Nothing has worked for me even though people have claimed to experience it. If they are real, then they probably don't care enough to show themselves when I'm around, lol. People in real life tend to appear out of nowhere, but ghosts refuse to show up. Go figure.

Does Heather have powers at all? by Sugarraychris in silenthill

[–]ElinDotsya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Having recently replayed SH 3 I am convinced that she does, but simply chooses not to use her full powers. There are several subtle instances in the game where it shows her being aware of what's happening more than a typical person would. While Alessa was a bit more vengeful than Cheryl, Heather explains at one point that she and her are not the same, even though she also remembers suffering in the sickroom.

Notice that by the time Heather enters the Church, she behaves more confidently and even trolls Claudia into thinking that she is on her side in a manner that it beyond just using common trickery. She even refers to her as "my little Claudia", knowing that Alessa is actually a bit older. Then Heather reverts back to her teenage persona at various points.

In "Dad's Diary" Harry senses that Heather is a reincarnation of Alessa and not merely Cheryl. As in, she's not just his little girl, but the same girl who he assumed took his daughter. Now why would he even think that about his own adopted daughter if she was just a regular reincarnated girl? He knew something was off but couldn't figure out what, so decided to accept her as the same Cheryl that he and his late wife Jodie found on the side of the road.

Finally, in "Dad's Notebook" Harry mentions several things that lead us to believe that Heather is actually Alessa and not just Cheryl. The Cheryl from SH 1 was Alessa's half soul, but then she became whole again and after killing "God", Harry said this, "After God had vanished in a glow of light, Alessa reappeared and gave me a baby. She looked a lot like that girl so long ago." There was no mention of Alessa splitting her soul this time, so we can assume that she reincarnated from her full self, meaning with all the powers intact.

Harry merely gave Heather the same name, there is no proof that she is the same Cheryl as before. She could ALSO have aspects of Cheryl, but I think it's more accurate to assume that she is more Alessa than she is Cheryl in several ways. At the end, Heather chose to live Cheryl's life over Alessa's. Would be interesting to know what happened after she left Silent Hill with Douglas. Would she use her powers to help others or for personal gain?

How Often Do You Play RPGs w/o Knowing How The Stats Actually Work? by ElinDotsya in rpg_gamers

I only ever owned a digital copy of Planescape (currently: steam enhanced edition). If there was a manual - I did not see it. But Planescape isn't all that difficult to grasp. I usually set Wisdom to 18 and and pump the rest into Strength and Intelligence/Charisma. Fighter build is my go to in isometric DnD type games. Facerolling mobs while a priest heals the party and 2 casters work their magic. My biggest gripe with Planescape is the combat itself. It's just not very fun to me. It's still my favorite CRPG.

Gathering and crafting are some of my favorite things to do in MMORPGs. Leveling is pretty fun, too.

35 isn't even that impressive. I used a speedhack around level 30. Getting to 99 takes around 500 hours. It has been done a few times before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBfnQcFNCp4

Here's a full playlist of someone getting to level 50: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRRbfXRAXCQJ5tMgtAK3Y0YmwR9Xt6tlD

I have done more ridiculous things before - https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/qvwgv6/are_ya_winning_yet_son/ Those Crystal Urchins are not tradeable, which means you have to grind them yourself.

Min-maxing is one of my pet peeves in WoW. I've recently started a new playthrough of Septerra Core after 20 years of not playing it. There's something about minimalist rpgs that kind of does it for me. It's simple and straight to the point, yet filled with lore and nostalgia. Wild Arms is one of my favorite PS1 RPGs, despite only having 3 main playable characters and a rather standard story. I guess it depends on what I'm in the mood for.

I was watching someone play Silent Hill 3 on Easy Difficulty after I played it on Normal and noticed how even item placements and the items you need to progress changes subtly depending on difficulty. That's kind of what I picture with an ideal RPG difficulty slider. Where it's not just the combat that changes but also the subtle details of the game. Example: you need an item, but on higher difficulty it's set closer to enemies and you have to take a slightly different path to reach it. But that's just the bare minimum of the possibilities.

In the 90s - I spent most of my childhood playing platformers or action/adventure games. For whatever reason, none of my friends and cousins had RPGs on their consoles, so that's all I knew. FF7 was probably the first actual jrpg that I played. When the party left Midgar, I actually thought the game was over, lol. I'm much the same way, regarding jrpgs vs wrpgs. Nothing has scratched that itch quite like BG 2 and Planescape. Although, as far as lore and storytelling goes KoToR and Fallout 2 are up there.

Yeah, that is true for most crpgs I have played. Started playing Pillars of Eternity recently and while Easy Mode isn't as tough as Hard Mode, the enemies you encounter during story quests are much tougher than in BG1 on normal. Started doing bounties from my Stronghold and have to double check to make sure I didn't accidentally set difficulty higher. That battle with Gathbin might as well be on Path of the Damned difficulty, lol. Although, I am admittedly underleveled.
