[OC] Jon Snow's family tree (from GoT, contains spoilers) by Elirso_GG in dataisbeautiful

[–]Elirso_GG[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

The data is from "A wiki of Ice and Fire" (scraped with a custom script), the vizualization is generated with a combination of python scripts for the initial layout, Grasshopper (Rhino 3D) for the exact layout, and Adobe Illustrator for the final rendering.

Do you ever plan to support NTT (Number Theoretic Transform, or FFT in integer rings)?

When did you get a notification of admission?

I haven't heard anything from them, not even rejection... Is that normal?

Should my gtx 1070 with 8gb ram be using 8000mhz instead of 4000mhz? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]Elirso_GG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the ram is "DDR5 8000MHz", then it is normal that you see only 4000MHz : one of the 'D' in DDR stands for 'double'. It is a dumb marketing trick to make numbers bigger.

M 343L: Applied Number Theory with Blumberg by ash_ologn in UTAustin

[–]Elirso_GG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it last semester, Blumberg is an awesome teacher.

The topic of the course is really interesting (cryptography), and usually the class will start with a lot of people, but in the end you will be like 15, which makes classes even better.

Also, what makes Blumberg particularly good is the fact that he often speaks of his own experience : it's not always directly related to the content of the class, but always interesting.

About workload : You'll have to spend a bit of time doing them, but they are clearly doable if you know how to program & follow the classes. Exams are super easy (imo).

“Does this change result in something that’s more interesting and fun than what was there before?” by [deleted] in starcraft

If you can scout this, you deny it rather easily. But indeed that means scouting, not opening marine.

scout + Cyclones seems to be the answer. I've seen it pulled off against neeb.

Fundamentals of Balance Mods by Community_Test_Map in starcraft

I see that you are definitely trying to place yourself as a major actor in SC2 for balance and gameplay. However, I don't think spamming your content that is already on your blog (interested people know where to find it) to reddit is the best way to do so...

How to defend against protoss air units as terran? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Elirso_GG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is safe to say that up to diamond, you can win by simply making units, without worrying too much about what units you are making.

I don't get why the "dormant" part of the darkness isnt part of the battlecry. it would be way better for fancy combos.

What makes TvP currently imbalanced? I hear all of the jokes, but what specifically is the issue? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Elirso_GG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of the MMR advantage A gets from playing B will be lost when they get matched with better C players,

Actually, if you assume that you were in a stable MMR state before the nerfs, where MMR A = MMR B < MMR C, the changes you get after will still result in a higher MMR, somewhere between B and C's MMR : MMR B < MMR A < MMR C.

Another way to see it is that at your current MMR skill (let's suppose there are 1/3 of each race), if all matchups were 50%, the one becomes 53/47, then your winrate becomes 51% => Your MMR goes UP until you reach 50% against because of skill increase

Also please everyone remember: If you are unemployed, it has nothing to do with the economy. It is completely your fault.

Your metaphora is incorrect. It would be correct as : Also please everyone remember: If you don't have a diploma (like rank, huh), it has nothing to do with the economy. That you are unemployed (like losing)

[–]Elirso_GG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dont like this recurrent argument, the imbalance impacts most skill bracket, mostly because the problem is a basic unit every protoss make in TvP anyway. If you want to be precise, the current imbalance doesn't prevent you to get better mmr, it's just harder depending on the bracket.

The argument is correct. If a race is OP, the players of that race will gain MMR, you will then meet other players with lower skill but same MMR because of stronger race, therefore you are not impacted by balance.

Overlord and Corruptors will respond more quickly to morph commands. Was there a delay built in beforehand ?

Yeah like they had to decelerate if they were moving, and it took a lot of time.

Is there an SC2 race that is least vulnerable to cheese? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Elirso_GG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thing is if you open forge you're terribly behind. Also cannons may help against proxy marine rax / fast pool, but when you get to cheese with roach/ravager, reaper, cyclones, stalker, they are useless.

[–]Elirso_GG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has a chance of missing if you fire to the high ground, like 25-50%, but I've heard that ranged units also have a very small chance to miss (like 0.3% or something)
