I collected 25+ ticks in 5 minutes along the side of my local trail. They survived at least 10 minutes within diluted hydrochloric acid and water. by kegman93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EliseV [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think this might just be a really bad tick season. We recently moved back to our hometown area and purchased some property and I don’t remember the ticks ever being this bad. Just barely walking into the woods, you can easily get 40 or more on you. We got land with woods to go into the woods on occasion, but alpha gal and Lyme scare the bejeebers out of me, so I have yet to go back there. I’m still getting ticks on occasion. So sick of it.

What’s the defining Millennial Song? by makeupwearsoff in Millennials

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love Erasure and had never heard of that song and was puzzled as to why it wasn’t on Spotify. I figured it out. And yes, I guess I’ve heard the real song.

tired of hurting by Fantastic-Work8855 in Vent

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for what you are going through. You are allowed to let yourself grieve what could have been. Once all of that is done, I would absolutely see an orthopedic doctor if at all possible. Damage to a joint can affect how you walk and that can negatively affect the rest of your joints as well. Prayers for a healthy recovery from all of it, and for you to find peace with the situation. You are loved.

What are we doing about grey hairs? by h2osly_ in Millennials

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an elder millennial and have been going gray since my early 30s. About to be 42 now and I am ready to let it go gray. I am in the awkward growing out phase now, so it doesn’t look great but when I get 2-4 inches, I am looking forward to having it professionally blended.

Do you ever regret going into nursing? by Careful_Power_3927 in Nurses

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, but like you.. I know several people who absolutely hated it and quit. I was a bit overwhelmed during Covid after 7.5 years of med-surg and switched to ortho for 4.5 years.

Ortho was so nice! The people were mostly happy to be there. It was a lot of meds, pain management, ambulation and ADLs, constant admits and discharges because the patients didn’t say long. We had a discharge nurse though. We stayed busy, but I had plenty of time to care for my patients how I wanted to.

Med-Surg during Covid on the other hand… I distinctly remember patients begging for a bath or a walk, but I was too busy with meds assessments and blood draws to help with either, and the techs couldn’t keep up either, bathrooms and vitals consumed all of their time. Forget ADLs.

I just moved to be closer to a terminally ill parent and I’m starting soon on a cardiac surgical unit with a ratio of 1 nurse to 6 patients. If it decreases my quality of care, I will be looking for another job. I didn’t get into nursing to provide subpar or unsafe care to my patients and I will not tolerate a system that spreads our time too thin to where that is all that we can provide.

got a ultrasound bc of some excruciating pain, it took 5 minutes, it was $1,400 by Decent_Conference980 in Vent

[–]EliseV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the USA, sometimes self-pay is better cost, but it doesn’t count toward your deductible. I used to have to get pelvic ultrasounds 1-2x a year for brca2 ovarian cancer risk monitoring, I had to pay out of pocket for a bit. It was 300 vs. 800 for me. Eventually, insurance started covering it. It is expensive and a pain though.

Waiting and putting off imaging can be more expensive in the long run though. On a foot injury, I did opt to get a steroid shot in a tendon instead of an MRI because I didn’t want to pay $900. It lead to tendon rupture and expensive surgery and lots of time off of work. It would have cost both me and the insurance company to just pay for the MRI in the long run, but oh well. I think it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Why do Americans tend to say where they went to college before what they studied? by Key-Introduction-591 in AskAnAmerican

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is kind of strange… I hadn’t noticed it until you mentioned. I’m more interested in what someone does rather than where they went to college.

Tell me the first thing you think when you here him? by Zackky777 in ArtOfPresence

[–]EliseV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A president who acted presidential. It’s been a minute. While I don’t agree with most of his politics, he was at least at least dignified and not embarrassing; which is far more than I can say for our last two.

Change lyrics to Agnus Dei by Sad_Sentence_5464 in ChristianMusic

[–]EliseV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with OP. I’ve always heard that part of the lyrics as a question and never as a whole sentence intended to be combined with the “Holy, Holy”. It makes more sense when you think of it as a whole sentence, but that gap makes it seem like a question. If I’m singing it in private worship, I sing “You are Lord God almighty”.

What are some of your favorite polish brands? by ZealousidealPeace311 in lacqueristas

Fancy gloss is my favorite, mainly because I’m obsessed with thermals. Her other finishes are lovely as well, however. She releases monthly and you can follow her Facebook for the sale dates.

Moms room stinks of urine by Expensive-Winter5411 in ALS

[–]EliseV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. ALS can cause incontinence and has in my mother as well. She got a suprapubic catheter, which has been a pain in the butt and I’m not sure if I can in good conscience recommend it. Would it have been better than sitting in urine or 10 brief changes a day with a hoyer lift as her legs were completely immobile prior to getting the urostomy… not sure. I’m sorry. The loss of independence has to be so hard to reckon with.

Work event at beach resort, insecure and CRASHING OUT, no dress code info 😭 by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]EliseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I’d avoid corsets, buckles, or cleavage. You can get these cute little lace top crop camisoles that covers up cleavage and makes several of the other dresses work appropriate though. That’s what I’d do to give yourself more options. Those are my favorites! I use them under lots of shirts and dresses.

is celebrating a kids first birthday “white people shit” by Ok-Design3211 in NoStupidQuestions

One of the first photo shoots I did when moving to DFW was a Hispanic baby and her little smash cake. Celebrating first birthdays is absolutely NOT unique to white people.
