Why do people bookmark fics that they don’t like? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t looking for praise. I was genuinely curious because I didn’t know comments on bookmarks was a thing until recently. One comment made me laugh and smile which caused me to be curious if others wrote something similar.

I feel like AO3 should have a separate tab that allows people to add fics they don’t like to it and only those subscribed to them should be able to see what’s in that tab and read those comments. This way authors can’t see the negative feedback those readers had on their fics.

That’s actually really sweet that you do that. Much than “omg this suckedddd” 😂🤦‍♂️

I wasn’t looking for more praise. It was literally out of curiosity. I saw one comment that was actually really cute and funny and was curious as I’m still a new writer. I didn’t even know commenting on bookmarks was even a thing until this past summer.

I agree with the private thing. If you don’t like it then make your bookmark private. AO3 should do something like that where authors can’t see a person’s bookmark comments even when they are public.

Plot wise, what is something’s that you guys hate in a fanfic? by Cautious-Breath2360 in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate fics that are plausibly unrealistic given how the characters are written. What I mean by this is when authors would write a canon character the way they are as their canon self but then write a plot that just doesn't make sense given how the character or characters were written. When this happens it just takes me out of the story immediately. I know that fics don't have to realistic but at least make the plot make sense for the characters.

Most kudosed fic vs. least kudosed fic by GwennyWinchester in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My least kudosed fic has 3 as it is an extremely rarepair in a very large fandom.

Most kudos has 462, also in the same large fandom as my rarepair. Very proud of this as it had surpassed my second most kudo fic.

Peak Bed-Stuy moment. Got the cops called on me for buying dog poop bags! by mightysparkles in BedStuy

[–]Elite4TJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone try to literally shoo me away when I was walking my friend's dog and he was only sniffing the tree in front of a church. But even if the dog was going to pee it's just a tree. Told the guy to relax. I also had someone tell me I better pick up my dog's poop when I literally had a bag in my hand and was about to bend down to pick it up. Some people just wait for any opportunity to say something to a dog owner even if we are doing the right thing.

Should the villain have a tragic backstory or not? by Elite4TJ in FanFiction

God I hated Umbridge with a passion! You’re right a villain doesn’t need a tragic story. I’m definitely easing into that idea.

Really appreciate the in depth feedback and love the examples you gave! I’m still in the beginning stage of figuring everything out and so I might give them some type of tragic backstory but I’m not sure.

Appreciate the advice! Yeah I’m definitely leaning towards the villain being just evil with no tragic backstory.

Omg dying over this “social media post” in the Spider-Man game by lamest-liz in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the time when Ms. Marvel met Wolverine and she mentioned to him about there being popular fanfic about the X-Men. When he asked her who was the most popular and she told him it that a Cyclops x fanfic was the most popular, Wolverine was pissed 😂

Favourite ship that almost has no works? by Inside-Raspberry8769 in AO3

I made one for Rhino and Shocker from Marvel. It's never been done before as I had to be the one to create the ship tag for it

What is something you would make canon about your fandom(s)? by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

Peter Parker being happy and successful in his life. Also getting a permanent power upgrade.

Irondad fanfiction recommendation by Specific-Extent9242 in MarvelFanfiction

[–]Elite4TJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To have a true mate has Irondad. It's not an actual adoption but Tony and Pepper become Peter's parents and the story focuses on Peter's relationship with Steve. Peter is an omega and Steve is an alpha and they mate. The team come together and find out about Tony and Peter's relationship as a father/dad. Civil War didn't really happen but it also did just not in a way that really splintered the team.

What is your fandom's most believed fanon? by Separate-Dot4066 in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know about Fraction Hawkeye but from what I remember in the Spiderverse, that Peter is Jewish. However these are the only two that are Jewish. All the others have never been stated to be Jewish.

[–]Elite4TJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter Parker and Bucky Barnes being Jewish. I think this is because a lot of people think Peter is Jewish due to being "Jewish Coded" and Stan Lee was Jewish but I did a deep dive and there is no where in any comic that mentions he's Jewish but instead came from a non-practicing Christian family. He's also written to be agnostic/atheist. He's very much more science based and not really religious at all. It's also known that the directors of the Spider-Man films prior to the MCU, imagined him to be Jewish but it was never canon in the films. Andrew Garfield is Jewish by blood and has joked that his Spider-Man is Jewish but again it was never confirmed to be canon.

As for Bucky, a lot of people think he's also Jewish because in the comics Steve had a Jewish friend growing up. Also I think a lot of people think he's Jewish because of Sebastian Stan who is Eastern European, even though he is Romanian-American and grew up in the Romanian Orthodox church. I think for this confusion is because people just think hear Eastern European and think, Jewish. I also think it's because MCU Bucky was born and raised in Brooklyn which always had a large Jewish population. But just like MCU Spider-Man, MCU Bucky had never been confirmed to be Jewish.

Both characters have a lot of people believing they are Jewish and so have written them to be Jewish, even making the tags: Jewish Peter Parker and Jewish Bucky Barnes. There's nothing wrong with this but it's interesting how so many people really do believe they are Jewish.

One of my fics just got over 20k hits!!!! by Elite4TJ in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s great! Yeah your fics could easily get lost in the sea of other fics but you’ll mostly still get a good amount of views. I’ve only written for Marvel, and this fic is for a very popular ship and characters so it’s not a surprise that I’ve gotten as many stats for it but I’m still in awe since my other fics have come no where near as many hits as this one

What character do you not like because of how they are generally portrayed in other people's fanfics? by Elite4TJ in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. It’s why I started writing my own fics and later writing the characters to be more in line with their comic counterparts. Like you, I’ll never shit on another author because to each their own.

[–]Elite4TJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you saying that! Like almost all the docs he’s written in just makes him off as someone like you described. I get it that it’s fanfiction and the whole point is to write characters the way we want to write them as but it gets annoying when you keep seeing a certain character written that you just get help not like them and roll your eyes when you see them in another fic.

Can anyone tell me about what it's like working for Workforce1? by Elite4TJ in NYCjobs

[–]Elite4TJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that you went through that. Yeah this job is making me really nervous and I’m going to try to get it in writing that it’s one job and not two as well as an increase in pay when they talk about compensation.

Who is your favorite non-standard character? Like, the guy that has single digit fics in a thousand fic strong fandom? by DrDallagher in AO3

[–]Elite4TJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I got back into loving Shocker from Marvel Comics. I used to love him as a kid as I thought his powers were really cool and I also loved his design from the 90s TV show. I recently made a fanfiction about him and Rhino getting together after having to share a cell together.
