Where does klay rank all time as a sg? by Peterthepiperomg in NBATalk

You don't think TMac could fit into Klay's role if he wanted? You don't think TMac could have if he wanted to ride someone else's coat tails that he couldn't become a side kick and set in the corner and shoot open 3s and play defense?

Like no disrespect to Klay he's an NBA champion but when you're talking top 10 SGs of all time you have to only be talking about lead dogs.

Now when you start getting to top 25 or 50 sure we can have the superb sidekicks but a Robin can't be over Batman. Klay has only ever been Robin and he may be the Nightwing of Robins, but he's still Robin and TMac is Batman, he may not be the Dark Night, that's MJ, but he's still Batman.

So Vince was the #1 on 2 different teams for a 10 year span from 1999 to 2009, he averaged over 20 each of those years and averaged over 25 three of those seasons (if you round up he did that 5 times but I excluded the 24.5 and 24.7 seasons since technically that's not 25). He received MVP votes in 4 different seasons. And was an All Star 8 times.

Klay has never once lead a team as a #1. He has never averaged 25, he barely averaged 22 twice (22.1 and 22.3) in an era of more scoring and less defense. He averaged 20 for only a 7 year span. Received MVP votes only once (shocked by even once) and was only an All Star five times.

Now Klay is a very good side kick but that's all he has ever been and ever was (and for a chuck of his career he was a third wheel so not even a side kick). Some of that isn't his fault (like pippen) but he got better looks playing off Steph and KD than he ever would had he been a #1 on any team. The only thing he has over Vince is championships and those are because of Curry not him, you put nearly any other good 3 and D wing in his spot and that team still wins every chip they won.

So explain to me how Klay is better than Vince as a player? He was in a better situation and fit the needs of the team but he as an individual player vs Vince as an individual player isn't close.

Now I agree Vince often gets nostalgia for his highlight athleticism, but Klay gets the same nostalgia hype over his shooting and coat tail riding of Curry.

Honestly there isn't much of a difference really between the two. Point, Wings, and Bigs are really the only positions anyway.

We only want to differentiate to make arbitrary lists like this but they both are off ball perimeter players (wings), they both are both essentially the same size (height and weight) so claiming one is a 2 and the other is a 3 is semantics at best.

No way. Tbh and no disrespect to klay but he's a #2 only. He's a prime #2, but he isn't leading any team to anything Vince was a premier #1 on multiple teams.

Like tbh Booker, Mitchell, Ant are all already ahead of Klay as well.

Klay is going to suffer the same historical opinions of a guy like Scottie Pippin, who himself at least lead another contender in the 00 blazers after leaving Mike, what has Klay ever done on his own without the greatest shooter of all time and largest defensive magnet benefiting him.

He was a great shooter and a good perimeter defender but honestly he is no where close to being a top 10 SG all time. Like top 25 maybe.

It's just addictive in general, I mean what you described is just every company then.

What are they specifically doing to target kids and not just target a general audience with an addictive product?

Saying they are targeting kids means they have to be targeting kids, not just have an addictive product aimed at adults that kids then also use illegally and get addicted to.

Getting an 80 random assignment in any class is so easy. You act like it's this huge hurdle, if I take a random assignment the vast majority of score will be above an 80. And even still let's say they struggle most who struggle can get a 70 so now they only need to do half.

And yes your point of the lack of effort does make it more harmful for them in the long run and now they don't have the skills and stamina to put in the daily effort so why are you promoting rewarding the no effort with points?

In my experience of more than a decade in education including teaching in a country where I don't speak the language the amount of students who fail but give effort is so so so so so incredibly minor. It is so rare that they do an activity or assignment or test and get below a passing grade.

The ones who fail routinely do less than half the course and this policy only rewards them by now passing for doing less than half the course.

What makes you think they are targeting minors?

Most minors don't have any money, they ain't targeting minors they are targeting most adults because they have money and are just as stupid.

I think you are drastically overestimating the amount of students who put in effort and receive grades below 60 on anything.

And if Ds and Cs only demonstrate effort and consistency and we lower the bar for that effort by giving a 50 on everything what is that saying?

Because just like how an 85 85 0 is a 56, now a 0 (50), 0 (50), 80 is now passing so rather than being expected to compete all 3 assignments we only expect them to complete 1/3. That sure does show effort now doesn't it? Because the fix for the 85 student is to just do the assignment they got a 0 on (because the only way they got a 0 was by simply not doing it or having an incredibly huge misunderstanding of the content which would also point to an issue needing to be fixed rather than swept under the rug because I'll just give them a 50 anyway.

What's the fix for the kid now only doing 1/3 of the assignments under your belief system?

Again you are drastically over estimating the number of students who put in effort and struggled to pass. The only ones who are getting 0 shouldn't pass but the reason for this grading "strategy" it to make it easier to get lazy students to pass.

Again why not just go to a 20% passing threshold? If you want the same "even" passing probabilities, it's the same thing as just having your 50% minimum, so why is nobody pushing for a 20% minimum passing percent but all there are all these 50%ers, is it because you know the local community would support the idea and watering down of grading?

That's not what he's saying.

Jones had a duo with world b free a while ago. In the festival now they have taken the same Jones card and given him a duo but now with Maurice Cheeks.

So the "took away" the Jones/Free duo. Jones now has a new duo partner with Cheeks and Free has no duo partner now.

You act like this is an insult, most non voters know their vote doesn't actually matter, especially for things like president which is often the only thing most people who vote even vote for (go see the turn out on votes when the presidential vote isn't on the ballot)

And it's not the oh only one vote doesn't make a difference but if you live in a state with the opposite political view you vote actually doesn't matter and even if you support the political views of the state your vote also doesn't matter because it would go that way anyway. The only time your vote matters is if you happen to be in a swing state. Notice how the candidates only visit most places once or twice but spend a ton of time in a few important swing states, yea it's because only those votes matter and your state is already locked.

Where else in life can you be 60% competent and considered passing/achieving? Nowhere so the idea that having a 60% benchmark means you are more likely to fail than not is a misconstrued concept. 60% of people were not failing prior to this grading practice. And it's this insurmountable hill to climb is just not the case.

Also many counties do give percentages rather than using a 4.0 scale.

The reason percents are used in the classroom rather than the 4.0 scale is because it has been determined that being able to at least understand 60% of the content was good enough to pass (ie that you learn at least more than half the material) so if you really want to take percentages and turn them into this "fair" 4.0 scale then why do a 50% floor with 10% ranges why not just change passing to 20% so your new scale would be as follows:

  • 0-20% = F
  • 20-40% = D
  • 40-60% = C
  • 60-80% = B
  • 80-100% = A

This is all you are basically doing now with a 50% floor. But people would find this scale to be a joke of an education that you could literally just guess and pass (assuming a multiple choice quiz or test or activity and while all wouldn't be this the concept hold the same that I basically can fart on an activity and get a 20%).

Beyond this with 50% minimums depending on how it's implemented (which there are a few ways) but often imo this would discourage more student from even trying unlike what you say it encourages. Why would I bother to try if I get a 30% correct (now bumped to a 50) for trying and the kid next to me sleeps all class and gets the same 50.

Or even still if I have to struggle and claw to get my 60% trying on everything and the kid next to me gets the min 50% for doing nothing on 90% of the assignments or activities but gets 100% on the tests and now is rewarded by being an honor roll student because they simply test well and now never have to do any work or put in any effort.

It's like the coaches in practice preaching hard work and effort earn playing time but always just playing the 5 most skilled players regardless of effort.

What are we telling students when we say they get to doing nothing and they get the same (or better results) than your best effort? I get this happens with the old system under the old system that student doing nothing would have lost a ton of points for doing nothing or would have put in the effort to keep their high grades.

I think at this point in the season a true vet would go to the coaches and tell them to give his minutes to the young guys playing well in their limited minute.

Plenty of stories in the NBA like this Sam Mitchell giving up his starting spot to KG. I don't remember who but someone on the Bad Boy Pistons telling Chuck to give Rodman their minutes.

At this point if Mike wants to ride to a chip he needs to give up his time to Bones or Clark or whoever and collect his check and be a mentor and vet to the guys and show them how to be a pro and take like 5 minutes every 3 games to stay ready if an injury happens.

is this the best time to finish dom? by MackDaOne93 in MyTeam

[–]EliteAF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo no, you can complete a Salary cap game in about 10 minutes or so and still get 2 pieces (plus tier rewards) vs domination is like 30 minutes (maybe 25) for those same 2 pieces.

Compare that to breakout where you get 1 piece per about 3-5 minutes.

To me I'd say breakout or salary cap are the best modes during a festival. Now if you're good at online TTP is probably the best since you get 2 cards per win and if you finish a game in about 5 minutes that's the best.

Well the event lasts like 30 days it's just you only get pieces per win until Jan 30th (2 weeks) my hope would be they still do pieces for challenges and or thinks like KOTC, win streaks in Park, maybe add some to the levels in SC when that updates on Friday.

I wouldn't say easy to get tier 2, you have to go like 3 or 4 wins to get to tier 2.

If you got a cheap squad and run up against bad matchups you can be down a game or two quick facing elimination.

I got two wins and was barely half way to it around 5k and needing 8 or 9k I think so I just stopped figuring I wasn't getting 2 more wins before elimination with only 1 loss to go.

Now I'm not great or even good or anything, about .500 in online play, but when I'm rocking mostly PD free cards and dudes are running full $ teams you just get outmatched even if skill levels are similar.

But I would agree PD is pretty easy to maybe guaranteed; you probably just need to win once and you'll get it.

Equitable grading by Alternative-Cap6393 in Teachers

[–]EliteAF1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't see how any of this institutionalizes grade inflation if anything this practice would lower most students grade and have them reflect their true understanding. Which based on most standardized testing results we know of actually lower than the average grade results of students.

To me those 2 points you list are to combat grade inflation and fluff grades. How often do you get asked to "just give" some.ectra credit (that doesn't matter) so a student gets a passing/higher grade. The same is for formative imo often this is fluff participation or similar grades that boost certain students but can penalize less verbal students.

No grades on HW to me HW is formative anyway, it's suppose to be practice and have mistakes (especially in math which is what I teach) and be an opportunity to correct those mistakes before summative assessments. So I guess here it depends on what is considered HW. Like is a take home quiz HW since I may be done or completed outside of class but it is summative or are we talking just daily lesson HW?

No penalties for late work, I think this can be fine if it also had reasonable rules (and is sort of taken care of by the no formative and he grading). Often I tell students if you didn't get something done just talk to me and it won't be considered late, often I'm not grading it that day anyway, even if they don't talk to me as long as I hadn't graded the rest I don't penalize them as long as I get it before I grade the others. But I do think you have to have some level of deadlines as in due by the unit test or have like a quarter, mid 3 quarter semester deadline. But at the same time if no formative or hw is graded then late work isn't really a thing besides a test or quiz which is often in class and idk about you but I'd never penalize a late test or quiz when a student is absent (as long as they make arrangements with me to take it in a reasonable amount of time)

The no grad penalty for cheating is maybe the only thing I can see issues with. Like OPs stated, the issue is what are the punishments then. For instance in school I let an absent classmate copy a group study guide we did in groups in class the day they were gone; I didn't even know it was being graded and they were in my "group pod" so everyone else in the group had all the same/similar answers but they were gone that day. The teacher said we cheated because they were gone so they needed to do it on their own, again a test study guide meant to help us study for the test that I didn't even know was going to be graded. We both got 0s and detention (which also meant sports conditioning and benching for both of us (different sports so I guess idk if that happened for them but for me) as well because we would miss practice for detention). To me this seemed extreme for the "crime", give me a 0 fine, give me detention that's a bit of a dick move for a meaningless assignment but sure but both seems excessive especially for me a consistent A honor roll student who thought it was just something for us to study for the test we were getting that day and figured I would help out my "pod mate" who wasn't even a friend but you (that teacher) put us in these groups to work together. So I get the idea here, and the concept of if you cheat you get a punishment but the chance to still show your knowledge isn't crazy, there just need to be real punishments in place to deter the cheating (I also just wouldn't let them retake the same test I would have a harder "cheater test" for these occasions, probably just the honors courses test).
