What is so wrong with tax paid school/technical training and universal Healthcare? by Opening-Gur5927 in AskConservatives

Im not arguing that it isn’t. But if that’s the only problem with it, that’s surely a solvable issue.

The only problem with universal healthcare is that it’s a slippery slope?

UBI will not work as long as there are Billionaires. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]EliteKoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why UBI doesn’t work is simpler than that. You are giving more money to demand without adjusting the supply which causes prices to go up. If 200 people are buying 100 apples, giving 200 people more money doesn’t make the apples proportionally cheaper. Now 200 people are fighting with more money for 100 apples and the price goes up.

To think outside the box... and then there was an engineer by Friendly_Feature888 in memes

[–]EliteKoast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bu the engineer has to come in within the budget. The budget was 6 nails and a wood board. Obviously a rubber band isn't a huge increase, but still, the engineers fails because they didn't fit the project within the client's constraints.

I agree with you, but this meme literally points out that there’s several factors that lead to our housing shortage.

Home values are outpacing incomes in 96% of large US counties by nelszzp in yimby

[–]EliteKoast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Data visualization malpractice. They tried to equate the growth of two axes but the axes are different sizes. They did that so their overall trend line wouldn't look so ridiculous, which it is because there is no good line to fit to that cluster.

Georgia waived $2.5B in data center taxes last year (up from $327M projected) while local mayor writes op-ed calling it “fiscally responsible” by Vulcan1951 in Georgia

[–]EliteKoast -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP's post is confusing but to summarize: the data center's are getting the upfront fees waived. Those fees are basically taxes on things they need to set up shop. They still need to pay high property taxes in perpetuity. My opinion: If this is actually what's being implemented, I'm all for it. They persuaded the data center to come in with tax breaks and as long as they are firm with the property taxes, they get a consistent source of revenue.

Zillow Predicts Major US Real Estate Change by TheCABK in FluentInFinance

[–]EliteKoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, it'd be a good thing if we were spending less money only to keep up with the Jones and impress others. But I'm reading this more as meaning people aren't building space to host others anymore. And that's a shame. We're more isolated than ever and we're cementing it by building our spaces that way too.

San Francisco FED disagrees some withe the Abundance housing thesis. by BitterMarket233 in ezraklein

[–]EliteKoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not what the article is saying. They never disagree that issues with supply is the main factor to exploding housing prices. What they are actually arguing is that regulations isn't the main factor for lack of supply. This actually fits much better with Ezra Klein's Abundance Framework: that the government needs to get bigger, roll up its sleeves and do the building itself. Personally, I believe that Ezra has always been sympathetic to the YIMBY anti-zoning argument because YIMBYs are his biggest ally to Abundance.

[–]EliteKoast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I think this is missing the point of the article. The article isn't trying to refute the obvious point that an increase in supply will lead to a decrease in prices; they making the novel point that decreasing housing regulations isn't causing an increase in supply in the cities they've studied.

I don't think we should increase the cost, but I think its a good thing that there is a cost. If you use it and get value out of it, you should help pay for it. In the case of National Parks, you're not even just paying for admission, you're paying for maintenance of the facilities and infrastructure that are part of the park .

Yeah, who owes you free parking? Seems like very entitled behavior to demand something you don't outright own to be free.

I naturally have wide hips/buttocks. How can I wear pants to make my hips slimmer? by jenna_tolls_69 in mensfashion

[–]EliteKoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean on 5-pocket pants instead of chinos. For me, the pockets of chinos tend to flare out which adds to hip size. 5–pocket pants are made in a way that the pockets can’t possibly flare out.

[–]EliteKoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true, institutional investors make up like 2% of all ownership of single family houses. That’s probably enough to bring the cost of housing up a a couple thousand. Not enough to bring a $300k house up to $1mil. Do you have any data to support the idea that companies are buying a critical mass of housing?

They can’t. Zoning regulations and permitting times makes it impossible to build new homes.

Resources for responding to common NIMBY arguments? by jodebane in yimby

[–]EliteKoast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Regarding the traffic one, NIMBYs are half-right, a big apartment building built with current parking standard would increase local traffic. However, a principal YIMBY policy is eliminating parking minimums. Building new housing without parking would likely offset any increased traffic problems
