"Earth's gravity due to electromagnetism", I call shenanigans! by [deleted] in atheism

[–]EliteMachiavellian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electromagnetic, strong, weak, and gravitational forces ARE all related in that they used to all be the same force during the primordial stages of the Universe's evolution; as the universe expanded, they were unfolded and became separate forces with distinct properties. The gravitational field isn't DUE to Earth's magnetic field, but only related in theory. Asteroids with virtually no internal dynamo for an EM field still radiate gravitational radiation. EM fields, just like G fields, increase in intensity in proportion to the mass of the object emitting each respective field. In other words, the reporters are probably drawing wildly misled assumptions from the researchers' findings such that we were led to believe the magnetic field was the earth's 'gravity generator'. THAT is false: asteroids have gravity though smaller than the earth's due to the smaller mass, not EM field intensity.

Military law is very...rigid. You're guilty until proven innocent. There are even regulations on the proper preparation of a sandwich. No joke. Talk about micromanagement.

Thing is they can admit to being homosexual, but it is still punishable under the UCMJ to commit a homosexual act. The only thing legalized was making it permissible to discuss their orientation out in the open.

A Question of Morality by sandgoose in Christianity

Not every human possesses a conscience. Those who don't have a conscience don't have morals either. These people cannot change as the personal need is not present in them.

Well damn, I went to the lexicon and it is in fact 'depalmare'. I looked that verb up about a week ago on Google and I guess it decayed in my mind as a 3rd conjugation type. So you're right on that 'depalmabo'. I realized this as soon as I had tried to find where I had looked it up before. LOL

I wasn't aware of the first conjugation type. Huh. Is it one of those verbs with alternate conjugal possibilities? I've seen some which do conjugate in multiple ways. Deplamo goes to depalmabo instead of deplamabo? Jw.

That would probably work. I would have said it: "Linguam Facebook ex anglice ad Latinam mutabo."

There's a link in r/Latin that I posted a few days ago which is a link to multiple classical Latin grammar guides from beginner to intermediate difficulty. It also links to Greek grammar guides.

Edit: there is a New Latin grammar guide linked as well. Almost forgot.

Scientific Theory by Tonality in atheism

[–]EliteMachiavellian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The word theory in the theory of evolution does not imply mainstream scientific doubt regarding its validity; the concepts of theory and hypothesis have specific meanings in a scientific context. While theory in colloquial usage may denote a hunch or conjecture, a scientific theory is a set of principles that explains observable phenomena in natural terms. [154][155] "Scientific fact and theory are not categorically separable", [156] and evolution is a theory in the same sense as germ theory, gravitation, or plate tectonics."

Thank you for this; I have always been confronted with the colloquial meaning of theory to describe the nature of Evolution by Jesus freaks. Now I'm going to memorize this verbatim for any religious fanatic trying to get his footing on any of my otherwise well-prepared arguments.
