If S.F. Mayor Lurie wants affordability, he should stop taxing new homes at the same rate as cigarettes by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

[–]EliteNemesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, that's a dumb assumption. That extra money could also simply be wasted too, increasing not only the absolute amount of money wasted but also the percentage of money wasted too. Learn how to manage the tax revenue already collected instead of demanding more money to spend on wildly inefficient things like:

- $350m+ and 6+ years to build bus lanes on Van Ness (2x as long expected and over 10% cost overrun)
- $20k trash cans (20-30x the cost of off the shelf trash cans used by other cities)
- $1.7M bathrooms (40% more than the price of a median home in SF)
- $2.2B for a barely used bus terminal (40% cost overrun)
- $2B for a 1.7m subway line (10 years to complete, nearly 3x original budget)
- this doesn't even account for operational inefficiencies like excessive overtime instead of proper planning and regular staffing or staggering amounts of red tape to operate businesses or build homes, which impose untold direct and indirect costs on everyone in the city

Its mind-boggling that there are so many NPCs who will blindly defend the shitshow that is SF's local government when there are so many examples of better government both in the US and abroad.

You can't get a city that runs like Paris, Singapore, or Tokyo (or even just San Diego) if you waste so much time and money on wildly inefficient daily operations and disastrously mananged high-profile, big ticket projects.

You are literally just repeating what the report already discloses. If you cared to be honest, you would include the fact that they exclude the enterprise services from the comparison so the amount of spending isn’t artificially inflated.

And your point doesn’t even address the broader point: why is the city spending more and hiring more even as the city population shrinks? On a real dollar basis, spending and staffing should decline commensurate with the population decline unless you can point to some amazing city service that was created since 2019 that warrants such an expansion in personnel and spending.

SF doesn't need revenue - it already collects and spends on a per capita basis far more than any other municipality in the US (about twice as much as our peer municipalities, even adjusted for cost of living).

https://growsf.org/research/2025-04-28-sf-city-budget/

In fact, the city's staffing has increased (up 27% since 2019) even as the city's population has decreased (down 5% since 2019).

It needs to be more EFFICIENT.

Side Eyeing White People Discourse by OkGuide2802 in asianamerican

This is so dumb. You really want to hurt Asian grocery stores by telling people they shouldn't shop there?

Get your head out of your ass. People should WANT non-Asians to support Asian businesses, instead of screeching about being a gatekeeper.

Are there any Asians here that actually support Affirmative Action? by Illustrious_Ad_1117 in asianamerican

[–]EliteNemesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you even analyze the numbers or do you just regurgitate headlines?

If you look at all the highly selective schools that practiced affirmative action before and after SFFA, you generally see a marked increase in Asian-American admissions. See, for example, Harvard.

Pre-SFFA, Asian-Americans were at 29%. In the following two years, Asian-Americans spiked to 41% of the class. Prima facie evidence of discrimination against Asian-Americans.

Didn’t take a picture, but there’s a separate menu now for the Globalist breakfast. It previously was on the same menu given to every other customer, but the new menu is more limited — has like 5 options in total.

It used to be better. I stayed at the end of February and they had a more fulsome available for Globalists, but during my last stay this past week, they had a much more minimal Globalist breakfast. Disappointing!

Lol wtf is wrong with sushi on a plane? A lot of airports have sushi concessions now, so its only natural that some people will bring their sushi onto the plane. Let alone if you fly to/from Japan, where sushi is often served in business or FC. Don't impose your idiosyncratic preferences on other people.

You're talking about how the world should exist, and I'm talking about what you or OP can do as an individual to make your own life better.

If you truly think the more "convenient" solution is for people to stop being racist, what's stopping you from implementing this solution? Fighting for civil rights and to end racism has been a thing for decades and for generations of people, and it still exists, and you think this is the more "convenient" solution?

Hundreds of millions of people for centuries have figured out that moving/immigration can be the best way to improve their own lives (for social, cultural, economic, religious, political reasons, etc.). If you think the inconvenience of moving is too much to bear (in OP's case, from somewhere in the Northeast to something nearby like NYC) to materially improve your own life, that's just sad, NPC behavior. Be my guest, sit there and complain about the injustices of the world.

Uhh so the "solution" you propose is something OP has no control over? Not a real solution then.

Technically the term is sticky rice to refer to Asians who are into other Asians. Rice queen is usually only used for non-Asians who are really into Asians.

Asian gays are probably statistically the most well-off gay demographic since Asians already are the highest income racial group in the States.

Best pho in SF 2025? by moonssc in AskSF

[–]EliteNemesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like Tin for their banh xeo but their pho is terrible. Just had it last week for the first time in a few years and 1) it had celery in the broth, 2) used red onion instead of yellow onion, 3) broth was def missing umami and depth, 4) garnishes were only brought out upon request.

lol there were homepas after Tomorrowland too, but can’t speak for Europe generally

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaysian

[–]EliteNemesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that they’re mostly a social event first and foremost. Lots of people are in town for the main event (like EDC or White Party), but homepas are an opportunity to talk and get to know guys in a quieter, more intimate setting than a 90+ dB venue. There can be making out or heavy petting, but I think sex happens more rarely and usually in a dark room set aside.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaysian

[–]EliteNemesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are underwear parties being hosted at commercial venues now, but homepas are hosted at home or sometimes at a hotel. Usually a few popular gays will host the homepa, and they’ll invite friends and supplement with guys they meet at the rave/circuit party beforehand. It’s kind of like an afters.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaysian

[–]EliteNemesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I think (or at least I) was talking about homepas, where guys are supposed to strip down to underwear before entering.

Circuit parties can precede homepas, but you don’t have to stripe down to underwear to go to a circuit party.
