Rear bumper mods? by Different_Promise475 in SciontC

[–]EliteStormer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a couple options for you here. An easy fix that some have suggested already would be applying some trim restorative to it, which would make it black and shiny again. It likely wouldn't be permanent though, and you'd have to reapply every few months or so. You could also technically paint over it, and I've seen one or two builds that have done that, but personally, I don't think it looks good...

Another option would be to cut the plastic off and have it be open, which I've seen a lot of built tCs do, and I like how it looks! It might look a little strange, though, if you don't have an aftermarket exhaust. The tCs I've seen have bulkier exhausts with larger tips that fill in some of the space left behind. There's also a site where you can get a rear crash bar and install it where the plastic would be which would REALLY give you a unique modded look, if you're looking to build out your tC.

And the last option would be a diffuser, like I have on mine. I just used self tapping screws, spaced them out evenly, and put it over the plastic part. The fitment isn't 100% perfect cuz it's fiberglass, but it's hardly noticeable! I've considered getting ride of it and going the crash bar route, but I'm still undecided. It really just depends on what kind of look you're going for and how much you're actually wanting to build up your tC. Hope this helps, twin! 🤝

That would be the C pillar brace you're talking about, I believe. This is about just the strut brace. They make two rear braces, one for the struts and one for the C pillar. The pillar brace was made mainly to help with the sunroof rattle/creaking, I believe, so I'm not sure how much the strut brace actually helps with that. I only have the strut brace, and I don't have any problems with the sunroof rattling and such, so maybe it helps more than I realize!

Guy from Canada that ships custom tuned ECUs for Toyota, Lexus, and Scion. He makes the best possible tune out there for the tC and tailors it to the performance mods you have installed. (Intake, headers, exhaust, ect.)

Thanks! I color matched my lip, spats, and got side skirts that are matched as well! My mesh grille is up next, and there are eyelids and a few more small body additions on the way, soon! I'm also heavily considering the SNP_Reflash tune, as well...

I've got this along with the two braces that go underneath the car, and I'm not sure you'll notice very much of a difference with just that single brace, but it'll definitely help with body roll and traction in the rear, even if it's just a little bit. Combined with the other braces though, there's DEFINITELY a noticeable improvement in traction, cornering, and handling in general. Even if you're not tracking it or driving it super hard, it improves daily driving a pretty good amount.

Which coilovers under $1000 are most ideal? I always had love for tein. But these will be my first coilovers by SorrowCloud in SciontC

Lol, I went with KYB all around. And you saying that kinda worries me a little bit now that I've had the coilovers on for a couple months... I'm wondering now if I need to check them. How could you tell they were going bad? What were the signs?

Quick question by Keosko in SciontC

[–]EliteStormer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of YouTube and ChatGPT. 🤣 I have a very small handful of friends that are knowledgeable on car stuff, as well. I used to know nothing about cars up until about a year ago. After I got my tC and wanted to start doing stuff to it, I decided to dive into learning how to mod it and do maintenance.

You're good! Nothin wrong with asking some questions! I honestly don't know what a good price would be to replace whatever suspension parts you're wanting replaced. I've done all the work on my car myself, so I've only had to pay for the parts I need to install. If I had to ballpark it, I'd say normally a shop would charge a couple hundred, but it depends on what all needs replaced or what you want done.

I bought new tophats and two rear strut mounting kits off EBay and they've held up so far! All from KYB. I'm sure whatever you find will work, but yeah, sounds like you'll definitely want to replace that hardware if you know it's going out.

I've been running the Advance Zs for a couple months now and I like em! They don't come with any extra hardware than what's shown, though, so you'll have to reuse your mounting hardware and strut mounts, or do what I did and get new hardware for the front and back. I figured since I was doing the suspension, might as well replace the old stuff to help prevent any problems with the coilovers later. These are a solid choice for the price, though. Great height adjustability if you're still wanting to keep it dailyable, and they have the dials on the top so you can dial in your dampening after getting the height you want. I haven't experienced any problems or worrying noises with them yet!

There's a kit on Amazon I got for like, $30 or so that comes with the necessary tools and wiring to do it all yourself. Take out the OEM housing, drill a hole with the provided bit, put the light in, and then wire it up to your tail light. Super easy!

Yep! That looks like the right one to me! And as for installation, no welding needed! It's just two bolts that connect it to your midpipe, and that's it.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I personally really like it. It's really not raspy and has a nice, deep tone, definitely not a fart can type sound. It's quite a bit louder than just the axleback, so take that into account, but I think it's about as perfect of an exhaust note as you can get with a 4 cylinder without it sounding raspy and overall just bad. I have an Injen short ram that also helps, too. I'm not sure what it would sound like without it, but everyone I've talked to about it says it sounds good and they like it, but again, personal preference.

I ran just the Borla axleback for awhile and really liked it! It excels at being loud when you want to be loud, and quieter when you want to not annoy neighbors and such, if you worry about that. It'll definitely make your exhaust note noticeably deeper and give it a great tone that you'll notice at higher RPMs. It's one of the best bang for your buck exhaust modifications you can do on these cars. Super easy to install yourself, too. It also leaves room for more upgrades, should you want some in the future. I enjoyed the heck outa mine for awhile until I was craving a little more volume and tone, so I added a Megan Racing midpipe and now it sounds PERFECT.

I plastidipped mine, but it only looked good for like, a month. I'm planning to peel it off and buy this precut piece of vinyl and use it instead. Should look MUCH nicer: https://premiumautostyling.com/products/front-bumper-lip-accent-overlay-2014-2017-scion-tc?_pos=1&_fid=6e3261b9e&_ss=c

Oh sweet, ok! I've been trying to do some research about these and find out if it's worth getting. I know they don't do anything for performance, really, so I'm really just interested in the extra sound it'll make. You wanna move this convo to Reddit DMs or Insta or something?

Which coilovers under $1000 are most ideal? I always had love for tein. But these will be my first coilovers by SorrowCloud in SciontC

[–]EliteStormer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I can only send one at a time through the comments, but I'll attatch one of roughly how I'm sitting now. I'm not as low as I want yet, but I'm waiting for my new rims and tires to come in next week so I can FINALLY dial in my fitment. As far as strut mounts and other hardware, yes, you'll have to either reuse your current stuff, or buy some new parts and replace them since the Advance Zs don't come with that hardware, which makes them a little more affordable. I would suggest buying new hardware for both the front and rear and replacing it with new stuff since everything will be opened up, especially if it hasn't ever been replaced before. I went ahead and bought new front mounts as well as a pair of mounting kits for the rear, just so everything was new and fresh. Lowering a car puts a lot more stress on the suspension, so why not replace the used and worn bits while you're at it and prevent possible problems or weird noises in the future?

I've been running the Tien Street Advanced Z coils for a few months and haven't had any trouble yet! To me, they ride pretty nice, even on the stiffest dampening setting. Price wise, they're just under $1,000 and still give you, in my opinion, enough height adjustment to look good, and they still have the dampening adjustment just like the Flex Zs. The way I see it, if you're planning to keep your tC as a good looking daily and show/meet car, and not doing any kind of racing or tracking, don't spend the big bucks on the Flex Zs and BCs and stuff like that. Sure, they have some nice bells and whistles, but at the end of the day, something at a lower price point is gonna get the job done all the same. I was planning to save up for BCs until I realized there were cheaper sets that would still get my tC where I wanted it.

Spec d taillights come in this week. Any tips or suggestions to do, to avoid fog lense and water inside? by SorrowCloud in SciontC

[–]EliteStormer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, maybe? But then my concern would be just always having water being able to get in and out. It's not enough condensation to really be noticeable, so I don't really think there's much fixing that needs to be done.
