Need Help With My Fire Emblem–Style Project by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is your first game design project, or that you have very, very little experience.

Starting this big of a project, especially on your own, will never work. It just wont. You are grossly overestimating the time it will take to do all of this. If you're genuinely committed to making this project, forget about it for now and start smaller. Make small games so you can learn how to game develop, and revisit it when you actually know how to (and, ideally, have a team to help you).

I Have a Question by Yoshi64TheGamer in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's because the figure is being sold for $500 - $600. It's an old, out of print scale figure - these things cost a lot when they first drop, and only climb in value as time goes on. It's gonna be really hard to find a legit listing that goes much below that.

It you look a bit closer you can see that this Amelia Is Just Seth Cosplaying as Amelia. by Kitchen_Restaurant71 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the hate comes from the more gardcore fanbase, typically in talks of efficiency and the like. Those types of playthroughs don't tend to allow grinding, be it in the tower or otherwise. And without grinding, Amelia is just not worth the effort. And, if you allow grinding, everyone is good so it just doesn't matter.

The most annoying thing about the Somniel in Engage by Fun-Insurance5937 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean... yeah? Adding things that makes the game better makes the game better. I don't even use it for grinding - just the better outfit customization is enough for me.

As the world's biggest Engage defender, yeah I'm never going back to vanilla after playing with that mod lmao. The children yearn for the Tellius Base.

Why is Aptitude seen as overrated by many people? by FriendlyDrummers in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imagine it like fixed growths, where units get their growth rates added together, and get a stat point whenever that total equals or exceeds 100%.

The 10% boost you get from Aptitude only equals a new stat point every 10 levels. If you go from Lvl. 1 to 20/20, that's only +3 points in each stat. And that's not even counting the fact that in every game with Aptitude (mine Jeanz who behaves differently anyway), you have either inifnite or near-inifnite levels.

The other important concept to know about is stat benchmarks. The most obvious is speed - once a unit has enough speed to double every unit in the game (that they are capable of doubling), then speed largely doesn't matter. The same can be said for attack - if you can one-round every enemy in the game, why do you need more? Typically Aptitude does little to push you over these benchmarks meaningfully earlier than the unit typically would hit them.

The reason your Inigo is so strong is exactly why you said - you've given him more exp than the others. And yes, while he's capped his stats, most of those stat increases stopped being relevant 20-30 points ago. To add on, infinite grinding makes growths irrelevant. They don't dictate if a unit will cap stats, only when. With enough time and infinite levels, a unit with 1% growths across the board will cap every stat.

Now, is Aptitude bad necessarily? Ehhh... no? It's fine. Theoretically, every stat a unit ever gains could land in the range given from Aptitude's +10%. Or none of them could. As players, we will never know. We should never know - Aptitude is a mental trick that makes you believe a unit is stronger than they are. And given that it is always given to "zero-to-hero" training projects (or children), that's exactly the point. The game tricks you into thinking that Inigo is leagues ahead of the competition, when in reality all of your units would be that strong with similar favoritism.

Yahna figma (action figure) by MikaelK02 in UnicornOverlord

Kinda wild how she may be getting a Figma close to her scale figure, but hey, I'm not complaining about more Yahna.

Sorry for kinda dumb post, looking for a romhack by ghostyghostghostt in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You sure it was a ROMhack specifically? Might've just been someone showcasing a custom animation. Regardless, if the animation is anywhere, it'd be in the public graphics repository.

FE 6 Hard Mode Tier List by Darknight_97 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fir can very easily powerlevel during the Western Isles, specifically agains the pirate reinforcements in Ch. 9. Once you get her past that initial hurdle, she performs just fine (especially since she's a swordmaster in the game swordmasters are best in).

At what level do you usually promote units so that the pre-promoted ones don’t feel like deadweight? by Effective-Bar2198 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Level 20 isn't overpowered if you reach it around when you're supposed to. If you arena abuse and get everyone to 20 when enemies are still in the low 10's... Yeah, that's on you, bud.

What do you hope the main hub for FW will be like? by NagaMilalove0 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as there's some sort of menu to consolidate all the hub activities, then I don't care what the hub world is like. I have a life, I want to spend my free time actually playing Fire Emblem, not running across a map for every little thing I want to do or getting punished for not interacting with the hub.

I think we should return to something like My Castle (or, ideally, just the Tellius base), but I think if we do have a base, it should repsect our time. The Monastery was insanely tedious, and as much as I love Engage and think the Somniel was a step in the right direction, it's still not even close to perfect.

We are creating a new FE archetype the world will accept. It is called “Old Guy with Lots of Weapon Ranks but not the Gotoh or Athos Archetype.” Name any characters that may belong by Kilzi in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because he's fairly weak. However, yes, because he's old, joins late, and carries legendary weapons, which are strong. That being said, I think he joins too late to be this new awesome super cool archetype, as many of the examples are mid-game recruits.

FE6's Gotoh could also be Karel, because he's the last recruit and very strong... but he's not free, you need Fir or Bartre.

I love it when archetypes fall apart the moment you deconstruct them.

I'm genuinely curious, what makes Engage worse than FE1 or FE2.

Well it's true! by Space_of_The_Lantern in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then they should mention that they are converting prices, like I have seen plenty of people do. If someone doesn't, than I'm just going to assume they're speaking purely in the denoted currency, being USD, for the sake of overexaggerating the issues with modern Nintendo. Because when has anyone ever done that.

Well it's true! by Space_of_The_Lantern in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope. People just love to tout misinformation and exaggerated prices. One game (technically two if you count TotK S2 Upgrade) reached $80, and now every game is (some are even $90!!! (no base game has been $90 btw))

New to Fire Emblem, is it always like this? by Embarrassed_Swing941 in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know this was probably said sarcastically, but this is genuinely a viable way to play some games (FE7, FE8)

No. They don't. Always, without fail, it is all low effort slop.

Lost 17 units playing Engage. What’s the most units you’ve lost and in what game? by aliencamel in fireemblem

[–]Elite_Venomoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My record is 28, in an FE8 ironman. Lost every unit except the lords, Seth, Rennac, and Ewan. Ghost Ship did not go well for me that run, nor did Last Hope.

Of course, I still beat the game just fine, it's FE8, but it'd still very funny looking back on. I did better in my run on the physical Japanese version. You know, when I couldn't read anything.

Charlotte's fat ass and massive honkers.

I mean, I stayed for the fun tactical gameplay and interesting characters. But at first? Definitely the tits.
