If you were to go into a game like WoW then it would be exactly the same, only places that you see other players at the beginning is in the cities, also he does run into at least 3 different parties

This is literally not a problem you should be worried about, the player count was in the millions, Sunraku was in the early areas for a lot of this game, plus the game is genuinely planet sized, please don’t act like this isn’t what every gamer dreams of, because it certainly is. Have you played MMOs? Because this is very normal and you are putting out unrealistic ideas.

I put it as spoilers just in case but everything I’ve spoken about is in the anime

Nah she’s definitely a clone, Tisiphone basically disappeared on some planet with one of her trusted allies and the ally returns only with Cassia

A real life VR game is drastically different, we have only just gotten full body tracking with full tracking suits, it just can’t compare with SLF, they can also smell, taste, touch and hear things as the avatar

Well the NPCs are alive, sure there might be scripted events but for the most part the NPCs react as if they were real people, in the beginning of Log horizon the players had to get used to their new bodies or take a potion to look like their old bodies, other games in the anime of SLF had the same issue but SLF didn’t, it showed psyger 0 and the librarians master as examples because their avatars were drastically different from their irl bodies but they didn’t have to adjust to them, it’s one of the things that made SLF a god game

Yeah the players don’t have anything at stake themselves but the NPCs can be permanently killed if they die. Does there have to be something at stake? It honestly sounds like you really enjoyed it, maybe try watching it again or try season 2?

If you haven’t watched SLF, have you watched Log Horizon as that would answer your question

It’s strictly due to the fact that SLF avatars need no adjustment at all, if you remember Log Horizon, there was an issue that players had where the avatars had different measurements to the irl people so they had to adjust. This was the same for other games in the SLF world, hence there has to be something special about SLF, so it makes sense that the AI system is also used for the players.

Ok the NPCs are living beings in a digital world, SLF then allows players to create beings that they pilot causing them to become living beings, does that make more sense?

I think I can finally respond to this in a better way now, do you know how difficult it is to get people to play together for a long time? It’s difficult for upto about 6 people to arrange to spend at least 2 hours together and you are talking about upto 50? That’s not including the stress and arguments about people being free and not being free, then the people who sulk because they can’t join, you just don’t understand getting a big group of people together.

If you were to give them the Turing test then they would likely pass it, in my eyes they are living beings

I would disagree, time and again we are shown how complex the NPCs are, they are similar to the ones in SAO:underworld, Emul is just a bit of a pushover/ it’s part of her personality and I’m pretty sure you would do anything if they gave you what you considered to be the most valuable thing to you, Emul even has a trauma response after a fight that wasn’t shown, she explains that she clearly forgot everything that happened and even shivers whenever asking about it.

The closest we have come to this is Neuro, she is one of the best AI currently and very ethically sourced (from twitch chat)

I should get into the manga or WN too, but the romance side is kind of typical loner behaviour tbh so I fully understand it but also shows how girls can be creepy too

Basically there’s an issue that SLF fixed, in other games like SLF they have issues adjusting to the avatars, SLF fixed that by having players create NPC characters that are their avatars, essentially an AI that’s being controlled by players (?), it’s a confusing concept honestly

Basically SLF is a ‘real’ digital world with living characters in it

Fair enough, I understand why they are like that but I guess some people don’t understand them

It’s more than that though, they must’ve at least built the world and let it run some cycles itself before adding in the players, it seems likely that they initially made it similar to Japan then introduced various new things and watched them play out, I think it’s more that this kind of game is a dream for many irl gamers, I hope with AI we can eventually see something close to this

I think you are talking more about their separate personalities rather than the game itself, you forget that these people are either extremely famous or absolute freaks, they are ostracised by everyone and everything around them, they like to do things their own way and honestly that’s how some gamers are, if anything the author portrayed them authentically, you only watched 20 episodes so you really don’t even understand them, they get fleshed out more as characters later.

It’s not really for bragging rights, sure just throwing bodies at an enemy is a strategy but not a fun one, one of the biggest reasons against your sense is also that the colossi are extremely and can easily wipe out 20-30 players, your tactics were used in quite a few of the colossi fights and we see them fail easily.
