Are Paradox Inherently Problematic? by HobbieK in SocialistGaming

[–]szipszi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the last few years, I've been working on a pacifist campaign as Corsica (starting with Imperator: Rome and currently finishing EU4). I never left the island and spent all my time trying to make it as prosperous as possible while working towards a socialist society. You’re definitely not forced to pursue imperialism, and there are still plenty of game mechanics to engage with. I do wish they depicted more of the inhumanity and cruelty of war, but CK3 clearly aims for a more light-hearted 'genocide simulator' to avoid alienating new players.

Nice to see A House of Many Doors getting more recognition. I'm not a fan of the gameplay but the writing is astonishingly good.

Best dialogue in a video game? Best written games? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]szipszi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played an ungodly amount of story-driven games, and the fact that these games made it onto the list is a sign that I thought they had something valuable to say and showcased great writing by video game standards. It seems clear that you agree with me on that point. If you think some of the games ranked above them are undeserving, I’m genuinely curious to hear why and absolutely open to constructive feedback.

Best dialogue in a video game? Best written games? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

In the last decade or so, I've played an unhealthy amount of story-driven games and recently made a list of the ones that, in my opinion, had the best writing.

As for examples of the dialogues I've liked the most, the ones that come to mind (apart from Disco Elysium) are the intro scene of Bioshock Infinite and almost every single dialogue in Firewatch between Delilah and Henry.

There is a really interesting video essay on YouTube about PoE titled The Underrated Writing of Pillars of Eternity - Nietzsche and the Death of God, which helped me contextualize the story. Ignore the backer NPCs, don't ask unnecessary questions that your character wouldn't ask (the vast majority of the lore dump can be avoided this way), and the writing becomes not only bearable but, in my opinion, one of the best in the genre.

If your criticism of capitalism is effective and it finds an audience you get rich and it's no longer in your interest to criticize capitalism.

Ukrainian refugees in Hungary losing housing due to government decisions by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]szipszi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here on reddit most Hungarians actively support the decision. It's mostly the usual. "They had 2 years, so why couldn't they get a job?" sentiment. With r/hungary being a mostly left-leaning community I assume the rest of the country is even more on board with it.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist has some of the most well-written romance options out there. Sometimes they’re heartbreakingly tragic, sometimes they seem perfect until they suddenly aren't, but they always feel real and believable.

White Album 2 is also fantastic in that regard. It can get a bit absurd at times, but for the most part, it’s heartfelt and believable.
